Less Christian?

My friend, Jen from Canada sent me an article yesterday....wait - before I get into it - give her name a click & go visit her! She just started blogging herself! I love being able to see what she's up to every day with her little adorable son all the way up in Canada!!! We used to work together YEARS - & I mean YEARS ago - & we've stayed in touch & are good sounding boards for each other...

Anyhoooo.... she sent me an article she knew I would be interested in.... I was more than interested - I was saddened... The article was from CNN & entitled American becoming Less Christian, survey finds

A few points that stand out to me:

"....Christianity is not losing out to other religions, but primarily to a rejection of religion altogether..."

What are people putting their faith in then if they are rejecting religion altogether? Themselves? ....wonder how that's working out for some people...

"The three most dreaded words are "thou shalt not"... notice they are not atheists - they are saying, "I dont want to be told what to do with my life"

Have we turned into such a group of people that we dont want to follow laws or even more, God's laws? And its not like the laws are something that are horrible & torturous - they are about being good, kind, loving people.... God is love after all!!!

I think what hurts is that some people claim to be Christians & they dont represent the idea of "loving your neighbor"..... & then people see things that aren't Christian-like & dont want to be a part of it ....bad representation, I guess....

It is all very disheartening...

Just more of a reason for Christians to show love to everyone!

  2. As Christians, we are in need of a shake up or a reality check. It's easy to become complacent in our walks but realizing that we have been given a command to go forth and reach and teach all nations...we need to WAKE UP!! Thanks for this!

  3. You know...people always say they don't like being told what to do....but I disagree. Chaos ensues anytime people are left to their own devices. They turn into crazed idiots. I worked with a nutjob once who do crazy stuff like not wear her seatbelt 'cause "the man" shouldn't tell her what to do. SHe would come n go as she please from work ' cause she didn't like being restricted to a time line. Wouldn't pay her rent "cause she didn't like having a deadline to owe someone". The list goes on. So Miss I Don't Like to Be Told What To Do" got fired from work & I heard she got evicted from her apt. She never showed back up to work so that was at least one "rule" she seemed able to follow. Crazy!

  4. That is a shame...but to be honest, I'm not convinced it's true. I can't tell you how many people I run into day after day that are Christ followers.

But, I do agree it's time we take control and become the majority...and not the minority :)

  6. I saw something on the news about this, and it really saddened me. Even attending the funeral of a friend yesterday brought home this reality. There are SO many lost people out there. It's our job not to sugar-coat the truth. It's a hard one that's filled with love and grace, but a necessary lesson before it's too late.

  7. I find myself talking more and more openly about my faith with strangers, family and friends. Why is LOVING one another such a hard rule to follow?

  8. Rebecca,
I saw a similar article on Yahoo news the other day. What in the wide world is going on? How do people survive without God? I mean where in the world is their hope? Is it in the world? And if it is....what in the wide world?

Okay climbing off of soapbox now =)

    GREAT post!!

    Have a Blessed day,
    Dawn

  9. Yeah, I heard that Americans are becoming less and less involved with any religion at all. There was an article in our newspaper last week about it.

  11. It is so true and sad. Even in the blogosphere you see people being hurtful to each other or putting others down because they are too "popular." Why can't we all just love each other for the great things we are contribute. It's not a competition, it's life.
