...unfading beauty...

Its no secret...

40 is creeping on me... in just 63 days ...

I'm not happy about it either.

I've been looking in the mirror every morning & noticing more wrinkles around the eyes... lines on my forehead... sagging skin (that's the WORST)... gray hair coming in quicker then my 6 week hair appointments.

... I'm just not aging gracefully...

Being in the sun running isn't helping the skin... I've never been a fan of moisturizing (I do regret that now by the way) ... I'm just trying to learn to accept that my 40 yr old self doesnt look like my 20 yr old self.  Its tough to swallow though, isnt it...

So how happy was I when my devotional gave me this scripture yesterday:

"Don't be concerned about the OUTWARD BEAUTY of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes.  You should clothe yourself instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle & quiet spirit, which is so precious to God"

... The first thing I thought of was Mother Teresa.

She was "aged"... had a "mature" face... OK, I'll say it - she had some wrinkles happening.  Wouldnt you if you dedicated your life to working for OTHERS & not caring about yourself.

But I think of her & I think she's one of the most beautiful people in the world!!!  ... & why?  Because she has an "unfading beauty of a gentle & quiet spirit"...

...the beauty that is within is definitely something people see, I think...

... & I want THAT kind of beauty...

Afterall, its precious to God ... what more can you say?

  4. I completely agree. The inner beauty of a person's soul and spirit shines right through when they are at peace with themself and are kind hearted to others.

It's like there is something special about them that just JUMPS out at you.

BTW, I have always thought you were beautiful and I think you look wonderful on the inside and out.

  6. I hear you, it's easy to keep telling myself that my looks/age don't matter but much harder to look in the mirror and not pout a little. It's a battle we must keep at, remembering that God looks on the inside.

  12. Embrace your age, my friend. Turning 40 was fabulous for me. I treated myself to a day all to myself...bought very nice yarn and ate lunch out. You're hitting the prime of your life where you can see the immaturity that lies in the hearts of those in their 20's. Your thirties were fun, but there's lots more in store for you!!!

  13. Mother Teresa also lived in a country where people don't drink the water and live to tell about it! LOL - maybe that's why she had so many wrinkles.

I threw myself a suprise 40th birthday party and had an AWESOME, PERFECT birthday. Of course, my husband was probably the most surprised. What's a girl to do with 6 guys in the house?

Can't wait to hear about your celebration!
