I just found some of mine when my parents moved & gave me the box of books I had.
Right there on top were 3 different Bibles.
One with more pictures then words... one with words & pictures.... & one with a bunch of highlighting.
I used to see my parents highlight their Bible & thought its what you are supposed to do. Kinda like a Spiritual Coloring Book... so I remember just randomly flipping to a page & highlighting words. I need to look back at that now & see what some of the things I highlighted were. Probably some deep scripture on circumcison or animal sacrifice.
But have you ever read a Children's Bible & see how they can make the scripture so relatable...Like The Message version of The Message...
I saw this scripture pointed out in Angie Smith's book & it again reminded me why I just love the simple message that every child should understand...
Jesus is love...
enjoy this scripture... & read it with an innocent, open heart of a child
They nailed Jesus to the cross.
"Father, forgive them," Jesus gasped. "They dont understand what what are doing."
"You say you have come to rescue us!" people shouted. "But you cant even rescue yourself."
But they were wrong.
Jesus could have rescued himself.
A legion of angels would have flown to his side - if he'd called.
"If you were really the Son of God, you could just climb down off that cross!" they said.
And of course they were right, Jesus could have just climbed down. Actually, he could have just said a word & made it all stop. Like when he healed the little girl. And stilled the storm. And fed 5000 people.
But Jesus stayed.
You see, they didnt understand it. It wasnt the nails that kept Jesus there.
It was love.
I think it is hard for a child to understand this concept, but as they get older the pieces come together for them. Love is a powerful thing.

ReplyDeleteI bought and read some of a children's Bible to our grandson while we stayed with him recently. I ache for our children to be teaching their children about the love of Christ.
When I hear the lyric, "Oh come let us adore Him," at this time of year, I don't think of a baby in a manger. I think of a man, my God, and standing at the foot of the cross.
