Hodgepodge

1.  Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English.  Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse or just general uselessness (go here to read more about how the words were chosen).  Here are the words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2014-

selfie, twerk/twerking, hashtag, Twittersphere, Mr. Mom, T-bone, _______on steroids, the suffixes-ageddon and -pocalypse added to anything and everything, from the world of politics the words-intellectually/morally bankrupt and Obamacare, and from the world of sports the words-adversity and fan base

Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why?  Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add?

I feel so behind the time.... I didn't realize T-bone or ____ on steroids was a 'thing' ... I've got to use it in my daily wordage now.
.... & hello?  Mr. Mom?  That's old school... Michael Keaton totally made that popular in 1983!

Get rid of Twerk... it just brings back horrible flashbacks of Miley that no one wants to remember...

2. What one unfinished project nags at you begging to be completed in this new year?

to get all my paper work organized...

for the past 5 years...

3. When did you last have a bowl of soup?  What kind? Homemade or from a can? What's your favorite soup?

I am in love with Amy Organic's Lentil Soup... its wonderful...

& then I had to look up what lentil is exactly.  I thought it was a bean - but it says its actually "an edible seed" that is a plant of the pea family...

I didn't know... but now I do
we all do
we're all smarter now

 4. Snowed in, snowed under, snow job...which one most applies to your life in recent days, figuratively speaking?

Snow Job?  What the heck does that even mean...

I'll go with Snowed Under... I always seem to feel like I have too much on my shoulders to deal with...

Seems about right

5. What's the funniest movie you've ever seen, or at least one of the funniest?

I can remember when I was little & me & my mom laughing so hard in the theater at the movie Airplane ... it still makes me laugh

Another one that cracks me up every time is Talladega Nights with Will Ferrell... I can still laugh with tears at that one.

I use this line every time I'm stuck in traffic

6. In general, would you say you're clumsy?

Without a shadow of a doubt... I mean, even I can fall over & hurt myself sitting here typing...

Sit Fail
This is me in every part of my life

7. Elvis Presley was born on Hodgepodge Day (January 8th) back in 1935.  Are you an Elvis fan?  What's your favorite Elvis tune?  If that's too hard, which Elvis tune do you dislike the least?  Click here for a list of his songs.

I'll admit it - I have the CD of Elvis #1 hits... My favorite song is Always on my Mind ... I just love that song, by every artist that ever sings it...

My least favorite?  Its one I usually end up singing... & made a great appearance on New Girls... In the Ghetto... it just makes me laugh, which is exactly what that song should NOT do...

8. Insert your own random thought here.

So everyone has been throwing the boiling water in the air with the artic temperatures.  I'm a follower, so I had to join along...

Our's turned out pretty cool.  We got a Snow-Nado out of ours...

& yes, I tend to get overly excited about every random, small thing in life...

And for the record, my husband is a dork... it wasn't just steam because if it was steam, it would have been pouring out of the cup too...

Mr. Wizard he is not...

Oh, how your clips make me laugh!
Everytime I hear "in the ghetto" I think of the boys mimicking South Park, and I crack up.
I didn't try the boiling water trick, but I'm glad you posted a video of it...almost like being there!

  2. Rebecca Jo, you absolutely crack me up! LOVE the video (you know I'm going to say it reminds me of your excitement at the Zombie Run. Hands down, the best video you've ever posted :)

My brothers and I quote Airplane ALL.THE.TIME. Such a dumb, great movie.

  4. We had soup with lentils in it on Christmas, they look like huge green onions and kinda look like them too. If I was going off appearance and smell, I wouldn't have eaten them, but I'm glad I tried something new.
I have to say, I enjoy reading your answers so much. I think your Hodgepodge is the most fun to read on Wednesdays.

  5. Your clips had me in tears laughing. =)
I don't know why I didn't think of Talladega Nights. I like the scene when they are praying at the dinner table.
I didn't try the water in the freezing cold. I wasn't brave enough to venture outside. Me and cold weather do not get along. ;-)

  6. Oh Talladega Nights-I definitely should have said that one. We quote it a lot..."I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew.' That movie grew on me...I thought it was awful the first time I saw it, but now that I've watched it a few times I love it!

Cool experiment. I want to get bubbles to blow before it warms up here. I think I have time : )

  10. I've had to double type several comments today, it's acting up! So you may get two from me. Twerking and Miley have to go. I do love the Mr. Movie movie. That boiling water is so cool, I didn't know you could do that.

  11. Bahahahah... little girl falling... that's awesome... people falling will never get old.
Also, I feel like "snow job" is a perverted thing... no joke I feel like I've heard it but I'm not exactly sure what it is.
