I forget sometimes....

So I don't know if this is something that just comes with age, or if it comes with a state of panic & being put on the spot.

Let me say, I consider myself pretty smart.  After all, I was the kid who would come home & throw my report card to my parents & tell them to go ahead & ground me... all because I got a B instead of an A.  I was pretty hard on myself.

I'm also pretty good at knowing all kinds of useless information... or trivia.  Its why I can remember whole movie scripts like "Grease 2" or "Beauty & the Beast" & can recite it, in full character, with the movie.

But lately, I'm learning that if I get put on the spot, I go blank.

I was out at a store & didn't have my reward card for that store .... which by the way, who created this idea?  Great in theory.  Not so great when you need to carry 500 cards for every store.  Who has the room in their wallet for that? ... anyways, I like that most stores can look it up by your phone number.

Except when they asked me my phone number, I totally forgot what it was.  After all, I just hit "home" on my phone.  I don't ever call myself.  Same with my cell phone number.  If someone asks me what it is, I just look to my husband & ask him - 'what's my cell?" - to which he pulls it up on his phone because he just knows it memory call #1.

Don't we kinda blank in situations that are stressful?

How about when something bad happens in life?

An accident happens & I'd be like, "What's number? 822? 733? ... oh yeah, 911"

If I ever have this look... I'm blank

Ricky is the worse in panic situations.  My fear is if something happens, he'll run out of the house & forget to shut the door & the dogs will get out.

Note to my blog friends - if you ever find out something bad happened to me, immediately call, text or message my husband & ask if he shut the door.  Thanks.

So I found it interesting when I looked in the Bible & saw that Jesus had just died on Friday, & people were going to the tomb to put spices on His body & some glowing dudes were standing there.

Yes, I said 'glowing dudes'... its why I work in youth ministry....

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.  In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:  ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.
~Luke 24 1-8

Isn't it crazy that Jesus told them what was going to happen.  He was going to die - he was going to be buried - he was going to rise again.

But everyone panicked.  They couldn't believe this was happening to Jesus.  How can he die?

.... & they forgot...

they forgot everything Jesus told them.

What would it have looked like if they remembered on Friday?

Would they have looked around & told everyone, "Wait... watch what happens in the next few days"

Would the heart break have been different?  I'm sure it would have still been sad to see their friend suffer... but would some of the fear been replaced with faith & anticipation of what was to come?

.... what about us?....

We have things going on in our lives all the time that has us in fear... in sadness... in heart break...

Do we forget the promises God makes to us?

... or do we forget... not remember.... draw a blank....

Let's try & remember more often everything that God tells us... hold it near... especially in the times we need to remember the most.

  1. Wow! Very good. Puts the things my family is going through right now in a little bit better perspective. Now, if I can just remember it. :)

Truly, thank you for sharing this reminder.

  3. Girl, you put this perfectly! It is really a test of faith to remember God's promises while not always easy, especially in a panic situation but they're there! And by the way, if I'm ever asked my number, I always rattle of Cory's before I even realize I'm doing it!
