... & so it begins... again....

Yesterday was a big day for me.

One I was looking forward to for awhile.
Ever since I laid down the money & went online to do the registration...
.. for my next half marathon.  #7 lays ahead or me.

You see, Monday was the kick off of my 16 week training!

I love a good training plan.

I'm the type of person that needs a schedule laid out to me ...
& for the next 16 weeks, I have just that.

My Erin Condren planner has all the miles & intervals I need to do every week....
& this makes me giddy.
Is that messed up?  Or a little bit of awesome?

Anyways - I used to have another blog where I would blog about fitness, running, food & just that sort of thing.  But in the spirit of trying to simplify more things for the year, I am trying to incorporate everything into one blog....

so I'm going to dedicate Tuesdays here for Training Tuesday.

Because even if I'm not training for a half marathon, I'm always working out.  Or trying to.
I'm fighting to stay healthy... training is always happening.

So what you'll find here on Tuesdays will be how my training went for the week before - maybe some highlights of the week, my struggles, foods that I may have eaten during the week - for the good & bad.  Goodness knows I'll always tell on myself.

... or maybe even posts just on general health & fitness.. maybe some talk about The Biggest Loser or that new show, "My Diet is Better Than  Yours"

Side Note... 2 of the plans on this show are CRAAAZZZYYY DUMB!!!!
The main point of these posts?  To hold myself accountable & to hopefully inspire someone to make healthier choices in a day & to just be a better you.

Let me remind you.  I never ran a day in my life before I was 37 years old.  & then ran a half marathon for my first race... & nearly died. It was HORRIBLE. & also equal parts AMAZING!!!
But the running bug bit me.  & I love it.

& I use the word "Running" loosely since I am so slow & on some days, I'm walking more then running.  But my ultimate goal is ALWAYS just to cross the finish line.  Don't care how - don't even care about my time anymore.  Most runners may gasp at that since PR's are the Holy Grail .... but as I add on the years to this body & aches & pains get a little more intense & more common, I've given myself grace.  I've changed the focus from times to health & fitness & really, just enjoying myself.

Not to say I still don't keep a time in my head & I don't still challenge myself.  I just try not to get so upset about it when I don't make it.

I've had whole weekends ruined because I was 5 minutes slower in a race from the previous year. I mean, real tears & "DON'T TALK TO ME" kind of attitude.  Just ask Ricky.

No more.
... or at least not so bad :)
I am still a runner at heart.

Anyways - it all begins again.  Training for my 7th half marathon....

& it started off with me still fighting a sinus infection.

Great way to start ... but its a start nonetheless.

.... wish me luck.... & wishes of no injuries....

Next week, the nitty gritty posts really start

  1. i think that's the key...enjoy running for the sake of running. goals are great to keep you motivated and hungry but when it's all the time, you can burn out and actually start to dislike what you love in the first place!

keep up the great work weather it's running, walking or a bit of both. the important part is that you're moving and staying active!!

  4. Good luck! I love that feeling of starting a new training plan. And I love your approach to running for fitness and joy and not necessarily making it all about times. I'm trying to work on that as well :)

  7. YAY! Go girl! Now that you have it written out in your planner you have to do it. :) I've been running too, but slowly and not super long, but doing my best! That's what matters i think! :)

  10. Yeah! Good luck!! I'm going to the Norton Health Training kick-off this week -- I think their training program actually starts on Friday and I'm determined to stick with it this time. At least, more than I did last year. :) Think how much stronger you are now after all your strength programs - you've got this!

  11. I was just about to ask you if you were still keeping your other blog. I agree that it would be simpler to just use the one, especially since a lot of your readers have found you on here. I quite enjoy it and look forward to reading your blog! I agree with the whole PR thing! Of course I want to improve in my running but that's not my ultimate goal. I do it for the experience. And yes, I usually have somewhat of a time goal in mind but sometimes I also want to slap people (kind of) that whine about being so slow when they are twice as fast as me...lol. But I suppose we all do that at some point as there is someone (usually) always slower than us! Best of luck to you in the New year and on staying injury free!

  13. Yay! Blogging is awesome for being held accountable - that's why I love doing seasonal 'to do' lists because the OCD person in me needs to get out and check things off, ha! Can't wait to follow along :)
