A hug for the knees ... & I lost a piece of Hugh Jackman? What?

WEEK 8 HALF MARATHON TRAINING!!!

Monday - Run 3.00 miles
Tuesday - Upper Fix Extreme
Wednesday - Run 3.22 miles
Thursday - Dirty 30 Extreme
Friday - REST DAY
Saturday - Run 7.11 miles
Sunday - REST DAY

If you look on Monday's picture, you'll see a new knee brace.
Yeah, my knees are acting up now that I'm getting in some miles for the week ... to be expected. They usually hurt worse then they are by now... & they usually start a lot earlier in my training, so I'm not complaining. I'm actually happy they've held out for this long.
I give credit to the strength training I'm getting in.
But I wanted to try a new knee brace.

I really like this one because the ones the covered the whole knee are so confining BEHIND the knee when you bend it so much running.  This one seems to be a little bit more flexible in that area.  & the front?  See in the picture above the white areas they have marked?  They have a heavy 'wire like' compression thing in it that really holds the knee & hits areas that puts just the right amount of pressure.

I actually used it on Monday's run on one knee & then tried it on my other knee on Saturday.
I liked it so much, I just ordered another one... & one for Ricky.
We're growing old together, that's for sure.

The only qualm I have with it, & I see in a lot of reviews, is they slide down a bit.
It didn't happen yet - but it did feel like it COULD slide down.  Maybe its just a weird sensation with this compression & how it fits & something I'll get used to.
As for now, I'm giving them a thumbs up.

& for the weight loss update...

I lost 38 pounds! That is the same as a midsized wolverine.:

Where do they get these things?
A midsized Wolverine? ... you totally know I'm going to use this as a moment to use a Hugh Jackman picture

For those of you that don't know me well... Beauty & the Beast, Steven Curtis Chapman & Hugh Jackman are the 3 things in life in entertainment world that makes me happy.
#randommuch

I want to hit 22 more lbs by the time my half marathon came around - which is only 8 weeks away. So even if I lost 2 lbs a week, I'd still not hit my original goal - which isn't likely anyways - its usually more like a half lb to 1 lb a week at this point.
Drats.

But that's OK... I'll get to that goal eventually.
Maybe just not hit it at the half marathon mark.
& that's OK - I've come a long way already... & I'll eventually get to where I'm going.

& heck... who knows what can still happen?
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE - right?

ONTO week 9!!!
& onto a 10k this Saturday.
Keep fingers crossed - its supposed to be warm - but rain chances look iffy.
This is my FAVORITE RACE too so I'm looking forward to it.
PRESSING ON!!!!

  2. 38LBs is great, no matter which way you slice it. I'm rooting for you! Mostly because I want to see what odd animals they compare it all to next! What's 50LBs equate to!? A large sized wolverine? 175 oranges?

  6. That's great progress on your weight goals! Good luck on the 10k :) I think that's pretty much my favorite distance. And I agree, I feel like strength training has definitely helped out with my knees though it doesn't make the pain go away completely.

  10. Yay!! Good job on getting rid of your mid-sized wolverine!! :) And I'm kind of, not really, maybe possibly, definitely not sure, looking forward to the 10k on Saturday. Last I looked, chance of thunderstorms in the morning! I really think I'm ready though -- I have a slip of paper with my and my husband's bib numbers, our times from last year, and what we both hope to do as improvement on this year. The things we do for a free banana ... ;)

  12. Hugh Jackman, girl if I married a guy who looked like him, definitely life would always be great. If we got in an argument I'd just say, pose and flex and all would be good, LOL

I am really sorry to hear about your knees, you know I know in the past you weren't into getting into a Dr or PT, but you've been dealing with it for so long. If your new brace doesn't feel like it's working after a week, it might be time to get into one. Especially if they can get you on track so you don't keep having the pain in them anymore!!!

I already think your awesome in your weight loss goals, I have no doubt you'll get those last 22 pounds!!!

  15. You look amazing! Congrats on the weight loss. I know you set lofty goals for yourself, but geesh, any loss each week is amazing!
About that knee brace, what pain have you been feeling that you felt needed the brace? Is it a pain like runners knee?

  16. WOW - you go girl, both with the running and the weight loss!! That knee brace looks fantastic, it's so different than the couple my husband has. I definitely need to share this with him! He gets a lot of knee pain when we're playing tennis.
