Why hello there Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond

I havent joined in with Joyce & the awesome link-up gang in awhile.... so time to jump back in & share in some fun questions today.

1. What's something you'd rate a 10/10.  Tell us why.
Having a empty calendar on a weekend.
The rest of my year is basically booked up & I'm already feeling a little panic.... miss those couple of weekends I had not too long ago where I could just stay home & relax.  Those days totally get a 10.

2.  What job would you be terrible at?  What makes you think so?
A truck driver. For sure. 10000%
All that moving on the road would have my car sickness in full tilt.
& traffic?  Oh heck no.
& all that sitting?
& all that eating in unhealthy places or eating on the go?
& sleeping in hotels or in a truck?
I just cant...

3.  When did you last take a fall  What's something you're falling for (in a good way) these days?
I feel like I'm constantly stumbling or tripping ... especially when you live with Harvey Dent who loves to get under your feet.

But something good I've fallen for?... mmm... my new Bible.
I am someone who is a loyal Bible person. I make notes in it, I carry it, its scuffed up & looks a mess & I love it... so when I get a new Bible, it feels like I'm betraying an old friend.  But I had to get a bible with some bigger print. I wasnt sure I could put my old Bible on the shelf (which actually its still in my car because I like having it near)... but I'm getting used to my new Bible now. Using it daily for Bible study has helped. I've already got a lot of it marked up & drawn on.  We're going to be friends.

4. According to the Travel Channel here are some of America's best fall festivals-

National Apple Harvest Festival (near Arendtsville PA, close to Gettysburg), Harvest on the Harbor (Portland Maine), German Village Festival (Columbus Ohio), Wellfleet Oyster Fest (Cape Cod), and Wine and Chile Fiesta (Santa Fe NM)

Have you ever been to any of the festivals listed? Which one appeals to you most? Does your hometown have any sort of fall celebration, and if so will you make it a point to attend?

Been to ZILCH of these... reminder here - I dont travel.
But I do love some fall festivals.  All of our towns festivals kick off the first weekend of October with a huge art festival in Louisville that I love going to - the St. James Art Fair.  I rarely get to make it the past few years, but I always like to try.
& then my town has a Harvest Homecoming that is the week after - that's the biggest fall festival near me.  It's nothing to write home about, but its still fun to walk through.

5. What is your goodbye message to summer?

Dear Summer,
While I wont miss your humidity, I will miss your days full of sunlight.
You were kind of easy on us this year & I appreciate that.
Don't be a stranger... come back real soon, OK?
PS - tell your cousin Fall to stick around longer than any of your other relatives, OK?
PSS - tell Winter they are the weird relative that not many people really wants around.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I cant believe I woke up this morning to find that someone was upset with Hobby Lobby because they had a floral display with cotton on it & someone found it offensive.  What is WRONG WITH PEOPLE today?  Seriously?  SERIOUSLY?....I just can't anymore with all the offense any more.  When did skin get so thin?  ...& I get when some things are TRULY offensive... but its not like floral displays havent been going on for years & years that had cotton in them.  & then it goes on & I'm like, Cotton is my favorite yarn - is that offensive to someone?  It's just getting a tad out of hand.

Hobby Lobby came under criticism from one patron who felt like its cotton stem arrangements were racist.

Here's the article right here....

& I think this gets to me because I'm like - Dont mess with my Hobby Lobby.

  1. Haha I love your letter to summer! I could definitely be a driver (maybe not a huge truck) but a driver yes. There are days where I just don't mind being on the road by myself listening to the radio.

People will be offended by anything these days, and not because they are actually offended either. Probably because they will find something to be offended about, just so they can have a voice! Oy! I will have to go read that article because I can't think what is so bad about a cotton floral display!

  2. I think I wouldn't mind being a truck driver if I could take my whole family with me! I think I WOULD miss home though, but I love a good road trip :)

    Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Ugh summer is sticking around with my foe: high humidity, will be in the 90's this weekend! I'd be a horrible truck driver too!

  6. Um, do people realize most clothes are made out of COTTON? lol I think people take offense way too easily nowadays. I heart Hobby Lobby too! Oh and I could never be a truck driver either. I'd crash into something within 2 minutes of driving it lol.

  7. Girl! Have you been spying on me?!? I bought a new Bible just this past weekend because I just have a thing about using my phone. I know it's so handy and everybody's doing it, but I just have a hard time not having my "book" Bible! I'm curious what kind you got? And, I got the giant large print because my eye/contact situation still isn't resolved. I'm still testing out different contact lenses. I even bought a pair of "readers" this weekend to help with the close reading, too!

  8. If I had a dollar for every time I tripped, I would be a Billionaire. In fact, I avoid wearing wedge shoes because whenever I wear them I trip even more. They are a danger for me.

  9. You have a wonderful blog. I'm with you on several issues, Hobby Lobby being one of them.

And then you write on the pages of your Bible. I do that, too. Have for years. Helps me quickly find those particular verses that speak to my spirit at just the right times. Getting used to a new Bible is hard, but I also get the part about needing larger print!!

    Blessings to you!

  10. Enjoyed reading your hodgepodge thoughts, I am so with you on the cotton issue with HL, I feel the same when I get a new Bible. I miss all the notes written in them, I have however given one of my grandsons one of my older bibles, at my passing. It seems you and I both wouldn't want to drive a truck! ~smile~
    have a blessed day!

  11. Empty weekend calendars are great, and I cannot wait for fall. I don't understand why people are upset about the cotton. I think it is silly. Sometimes I almost think people are making a joke, and people take it seriously. Like an Onion article or something that people don't realize it's not "real" lol. I do think a lot of things people are "worked up" about lately aren't silly though. This one is, but a lot of them I think shouldn't need to be justified. If someone feels unsafe, for example, it's not up to me or anyone else to say that they shouldn't feel unsafe. Etc. It's a crazy world. I wish people would just be nice to each other. XO - Alexandra

  12. Ha- my dad is a truck driver :) The traffic and sitting and swaying doesn't bother him much. And fortunately he's home every night. My mom packs his lunch every morning, too, so he rarely eats rest stop junk :)
I just recently fell in our new backyard. Hahaha. I was checking out the creek and went down, though fortunately NOT in the water ;)

  13. I saw that there was some kind of complaint about Hobby Lobby, but I didn't check it out. I agree, Leave Hobby Lobby alone. I love that store.

I agree, truck driving would be bad. I love to travel, but that would be a bit much.

I haven't used a regular Bible in quite awhile because I use the YouVersion App and love it! Sometimes, I miss the regular Bible though.

  14. I enjoyed your answers and couldn't agree more with your random thought. I saw that too about Hobby Lobby and just could not believe that cotton offended someone. People have just lost their minds haven't they? Enjoy the rest of your week!

  15. I trip over our big boy all the time, especially in the kitchen, where he gets under my feet when I'm cooking in hopes that something will leap off onto the floor.

That letter to summer is great! Winter is the weird uncle who creeps everyone out and no one really wants him around, but he was Grandma's brother....

The level of insanity in this country is ridiculous! Just when I think we can't possibly get any stupider in our political correctness...someone goes and proves me wrong. (I wish they'd quit seeing my doubt as a challenge.)

  16. I couldn't do truck driving either; it would drive me crazy having to sit for so long. I don't know how they do it, but I'm thankful there are truck drivers who take those long trips to take all sorts of needful things across the country.

  17. Someone was offended by cotton???? Our world we live in has gotten too far out of hand on so many levels. SO MANY LEVELS. I cant even remember what else I was going to comment about because the level of ridiculousness has shocked me stupid once again.

  18. We've become a nation of the utterly ridiculous. On the bright side I just saw in our paper this morning that Hobby Lobby signed a lease to move into a local shopping center where K-Mart vacated. I'm so excited. I LOVE Hobby Lobby : ) It's nice to see you back in the HP today!

  19. Wow people get so bent out of shape over stupid things. I love Hobby Lobby too and just can't believe someone got that upset over the cotton display. Ugh.

  20. I'm a weirdo. Winter is my favorite season in regards to temperature. Spring is my favorite otherwise, with all the wildflowers. :)

I haven't gotten a new Bible in ages. Like you, it feels like betraying an old friend. I've had the Bible I currently use since 1985. With my vision issues, it would be good to get one with a larger print, but I'll put it off as long as I can. I'm glad you're enjoying your new Bible, but still taking your old friend with you. :)

Regarding the Hobby Lobby griper...OY! I wonder exactly what slaves picked the cotton that is in these current displays? Has this "Texan" gone to chew out the Texas farmers that are growing those acres and acres of cotton out there? (Oh my, maybe we shouldn't grow cotton because many people - not just the Africans- had to pick it, my mama being one of them!). Slavery was never right, but slavery hasn't been legal in this country for a very long time. They did more than pick cotton anyway! Are they offended by a house? Slaves built those, too. Are they offended by potatoes?...Can they in all good conscience eat fries? The Irish were treated as even lower than the slaves in many cases. Do they eat food that ever had a face? Someone suffered there, too.

I'll stop there. I could go on and on about this.

People are always going to find something to get their diaper in a twist. They need to just grow up!

    Have a blessed week. :)

  21. How about this, we will trade you our summer for your winter. It is a very cold 102 outside right now. I cannot believe how stupid people can be. I guess smoking is racist, too. Slaves were used to harvest the tobacco. Let's boycott tobacco.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was amazed at the story about the cotton display too. What is wrong with people? Do we burn all the cotton fields in the south? Do we take all of our cotton clothing out of our closets and drawers and burn them? How absolutely stupid! I did enjoy your Hodgepodge answers.

  23. Loved your answers and I couldn't be a driver either, apart from getting car sick, I've not got a drivers licence. I know what you mean about your bible - I'd hate to replace mine but know one day I may need to.
    Have a great day.

  24. I'm so happy to see that you joined on Wednesday Hodgepodge! Yes dogs are pretty good for tripping us up. So glad you love your new Bible. Your right, those full days of sunlight will be missed.
