I finally remembered to join in with the link up on time.
& glad to have 3 books I've read in the past month to join in with.
& with all of them being 4 out of 5 stars, it seems I've really enjoyed reading lately.
Here's a quick look at my 3 books from the past few weeks.
This is the 3rd book in the Dorothy Must Die series.
& I will say, I've been very vocal on my up & down relationship with this series. Loved the first one. Really didn't care how dark the 2nd one got - as well as how dark all the novellas had gotten as it progressed.
I was SOOOOO pleasantly surprised how this book went.
It seemed to have the style of the first book. Still with adventure & dramatic moments, some surprise moments but not as 'evil' - though it did have one or two parts that made me just get a little grossed out (RIP Toto) & needed to skip a paragraph or two. But I really did enjoy this book & loved that most of it revolved being back in Kansas & back into Amy Gumm's world & what has happened since she was gone.
Now, the rumor had been all along this was going to be a 3 part book so when I got to the end & there were more questions than answers, I was thoroughly confused.
& come to find out, there's another book coming out. 1 more.
I was equally bummed & excited.
I was bummed because I thought we were going to wrap it all up - but excited because this book saved face to me & now I'm excited to see some more of what happens with Oz.
The first book in this series was To All the Boys I loved Before
- which I reviewed last month.
It is TOTAL YA & totally took me back to the feeling of high school crushes & I was excited to pick up where Lara Jean & Peter were at.
The fun thing, this book picks up exactly where the last story ended.
I like that sometimes - or at least it worked for this book.
& I so enjoyed this book just as much as the first one. Seeing how Lara Jean & Peter's relationship goes, especially when one of the guys she wrote a letter to in book one comes back (& I was totally rooting for him)... & a jealous ex-girlfriend of Peter's just stays involved in their relationship.
So I found out this is actually going to have another book coming out! (& hope Guy #2 is in it)
I'm kind of excited about this. & while I was glad this book picked up where the last one ended, I'd be excited to see Lara Jean & Peter graduating high school or a little older.
I know I'll still read it wherever they are in life.
Here's a story of 2 best friends that are inseparable & then suddenly one disappears & leaves a note behind with a list of things to do. Emily thinks accomplishing the list will bring back her friend Sloane.
The way I describe this book the best is to not say, "What" do you do when your best friend disappears - but "WHO" do you become when your best friend disappears.
I grew up with a best friend that I stuck with faithfully & its strange to think, but I could have been a different person if I wasn't around her so much. It's interesting to see how Emily's journey goes with this thought. Especially when she's shoved out of her comfort zone to do tasks she would never otherwise do in life.
I really enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would.
Like I was so sad to see Emily & her friend Frank go at the end of this book. When I don't want to let go of characters, it means I really enjoyed it.
So there we go - easy & simple this month. But full of fun, easy reads.
I'm reading a book right now I'm 60% done with that is SO OPPOSITE of fun. It's a mystery sort of creepiness - & I'm loving it as well...
I love there's so many books to fit a mood or to change it up.
Now off to venture around to everyone else's posts for the day.
Which, by the way, when these posts come up, I just basically leave 2 tabs open on my computer - one for my library & one for Goodreads. I love all the different ideas out there!!
So off to fill up my MUST READ list... like its not long enough already
HAPPY READING!!!
Hmm....I actually looked at "Since You've Been Gone" one day a Walmart. I might have to see if they still have it.
ReplyDeleteI have the middle book on my TBR but I had thought about removing it because I really need to thin the herd. So maybe I shouldn't do that now?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your list! I am reading a book right now called "Boundaries" and once I finish, I'll have to check out some that you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI love the Wizard of Oz story so I must investigate this Dorothy Must Die series! I have so many books to add to my Goodreads list ... not sure if I'll ever get caught up but the challenge is what makes it fun, I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteI read To All the Boys I Loved Before + PS I Still Love You, & while I would read a 3rd just to find out what happened, I wasn't enamored, they started off pretty slow for me, & never really picked up. I liked the 2nd book enough & I was rooting for John Ambrose as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by Since You've Been Gone.
ReplyDeleteI have TATBILB and this second one on my list but I've never pushed to read them.
Since You've Been Gone and the To All The Boys I've Loved Before series both sound really good. I'm a huge fan of YA books, so I'll definitely have to check these out!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the Dorthy series would be my thing, but I'm so intrigued by it at the same time. Is it also YA?
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that, because I have a Goodreads tab open today too! Haha! I've wanted to read Since You've Been Gone and To All The Boys I've Loved Before for a while! Glad you liked them, I will definitely get to them...eventually. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read the Dorothy Must Die series. I need to get on that. Soon. The Wizard of Oz was one of my favorite movies (and I read the books too) growing up.
ReplyDeleteI have had To All The Boys I Loved Before on my list for quite some time...I need to read it. I just added Since You've Been Gone, I am intrigued by the premise.
ReplyDeletesince you've been gone is on my list so i am glad you liked it. i still haven't read the Dorothy Must Die series, i will absolutely put it off even longer now haha and wait for the last book.
ReplyDeleteWWII books are my jam right now so I've been reading all about that...it's so heavy though; maybe I need a light hearted book to cleanse my palatte :/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews!!
ReplyDeleteDorothy Must Die has been on my list forever. I didn't know it was part of a series.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of the Dorothy Must Die series, it sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteI should read To All the Boys I've Loved Before & PS I Still Love You! I love a good YA. :)
ReplyDeleteTo All the Boys and PS I Still Love You sound cute. Sometimes I'm all about YA and sometimes I'm not.
ReplyDeleteThere's so many Dorothy/Oz books out there...I really like it's practically its own genre!
ReplyDeleteYour Belle graphic...perfect for you :) I've noticed Since You've Been Gone before but I don't think it interested me. Your perspective definitely grabs my attention.
ReplyDeleteI think I would like the last 2 books you mentioned. I got two books on my library trip yesterday, "Secret lives of fortunate wives". And "the friends we keep", which I am on chapter 3 already!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recommendations. I needed some new books to read. I have been flying through them lately.
ReplyDeleteOooh I think I have all of these on my TBR. :) Glad to know you are liking them. XO - Alexandra
