Thankful Thursdsay #259

Knit By God's Hand: Lots of surviving.... packing, ER visits ...

This week I am Thankful For:

New Chair
Once I found out I would still be working at home for awhile (Thank you Lord) a coworker was talking about a new office chair she got.  She gave me a heads up of a sale on it & a coupon & I snagged it up. It's been so nice to have a comfy office chair instead of a hard back, non-spinning chair.

Free time after work
I was so used to driving home after work, then working out, & then dinner was even getting started till nearly 7.  I am so grateful that I can work out at lunch & no commute time. It's been something I'm just soaking up, knowing when I sign off at the end of the day, I'm instantly able to do whatever I want. Read, bible study, housework, games with the hubs, playing with the dog. It's an extra 2 hours that is so much more enjoyable.  I know it wont last forever, so I'll be thankful for it now.

Masks Sells
I've still been selling masks regularly. Super excited about that. I saw a post from PopSugar the other day on cute masks & I thought mine were just as cute & mine were like $10.00 cheaper too - yikes!

See, I can make "adult" looking masks - though I do love my Disney ones!

Smell of Rain
I just love that smell. I got the biggest breeze of that smell this weekend & I just stopped & closed my eyes & inhaled.  Nature has some of the best smells.

New Shorts
I bought some new shorts from Walmart just to lounge around this summer - I'm LOVING them. Wish I would have bought more because they are sold out of most of them now. I'm keeping my eye on them though to snag up more when I can!

Vegetarian lifestyle
No meat for me for nearly 10 years now... & Ricky is 95% there (he does love an occasional Chick-Fil-A sandwich).... but with all the meat shortage going on & the price of it going up - I'm glad it doesnt effect us.  I'm hoping it turns more people to a meat-free lifestyle - even if its a day or two a week!

Day off / Thank you Military Heroes
While I do appreciate a day off work - I do recognize the reason & am thankful for the ones who sacrifice the amazing gift of life to protect our country.

Happy Memorial Day – thank you… – Ronald McDonald House of ...

Mask Wearers
I dont know how or why wearing a mask has seem to become a political statement or a stance for a political party - when it should JUST be about protecting people around you.  Doing it for those you love.  No more - no less.  So yes, here it is again - thankful for anyone that takes the time  to put on a mask, even when its uncomfortable, just to help the person you may be passing.

Tell me something good about your week!

Hodgepodge

From this Side of the Pond
Thanks Joyce for the link up today

1. The US of A celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday. Does your family have any military ties? If so, tell us about them.

My grandfather on my dad's side was in the Army.
He served in World War 2 & I wish I would have asked about the stories.
He kept it really private & didnt really talk much about it until he was older. He was never an emotional man, but when he was in his late 80's - he seemed to have a lot of haunting memories of it all - which is so sad to think about all the trauma that he carried through his life with it.

Tennie & Papaw

2. Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, mac and cheese, macaroni salad...your favorite BBQ side? How many of these do you make from scratch vs. buying from the deli?

From scratch? What's that?
Do I look like I have a cooking show on Food Network?
Sam's Club is my favorite place for a cookout!

3.  I enjoyed asking this question back when the Hodgepodge was a regular thing...Lake Superior State University posts a list each year of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. The 2020 list includes-quid pro quo, artisanal, curated, influencer, literally, I mean, living my best life, mouthful (word used by foodies to describe texture of food in their mouth), chirp (basically an insult, you can read more on the website), jelly (short for jealous), totes (short for totally), vibe, and OK Boomer (internet response from millenial to older generation).

Of the words/phrases listed which would you most like to see 'banned'?

Influencer.
That just gags me.
That people can make a living from it?
I think it  just disturbs me more how "sheep like" we can be as people - I'm including myself in that -
Give me some good recommendations from people that really use items & are sincere - but doing it just to make a few dollars... no, just no.

Her Lam Photographer Writer Instagram Model and Influencer Himiam ...

4. I'm sure next year's list will be filled with words springing out of this weird season we're all in currently. What word or phrase associated with the Corona would you be happy to hear less often?

I will typically search Covidiots just to see the latest ridiculous things.
I'll be glad to hear it less often HOPING there will be few of these idiotic actions.
...doubting that will happen any time soon.....

5.  The month of May wraps up in just a few days. Bid her adieu in ten words or less.

It was May?

6. Insert your own random thought here.
So I did a TREAT YO SELF things & signed up for the Book of the Month.
I've been eyeing it for awhile & thought, why not do it during summer.
I'm excited to see how it works & if I stick with it after the summer & working from home months.
Anyone else use it?  Any tips or things I should know about it?

The weekend I did a bunch of the same thing... stayed home

Ahh - a day off work yesterday! Did anyone else need it? I know I did. I know working from home, it shouldnt feel like you need it as much....but I really did enjoy not having to go into the back room & barely move from my chair for 9 hours of the day.  REALLY enjoyed it!

Nothing really exciting happened in my world.  Hard to make time sound really exciting when you stay home as much as possible.

Friday, I just sewed a lot.  Selling more masks & I wanted to play with some new fabric.

A NEW Beauty & the Beast fabric... isn't it so beautiful?

I was super bummed Friday night though because I had the WORST start of an ear infection.  It was in my jaw & I couldnt even put my teeth together - so no dinner for me.  It was near excruciating.  Yes, I still get ear infections like I'm a toddler.

Saturday, again, a bunch of normal home stuff.

I put on some crock pot sweet potato quinoa chili ... on the hottest day of the year. OH MERCY - it was a warm one. The official kick off of summer is about right.

I spent my morning working on my Bible Study & filling out my Faith Planner....

The one good thing about Saturday was I went ahead & worked out - even with my ear was still hurting when I woke up.  All that moving & huffing & puffing must have paid off because the entire time, I had to blow my nose like every 3 minutes.  But by the end of the workout, my ear didnt hurt anymore! I guess all that pressure just had to escape.... I am just thankful it didnt turn into something worse or a round of vertigo.

I spent the most part of Saturday night sitting on the front porch reading & watching thunderstorms roll through.  It gave some breaks in the heat.

... just in time to eat that delicious chili.... yummm!!!!

Chili just needs avocado, right?

Sunday, church time....I've loved the past 2 weeks on the series called "Untriggered" that touched on anger & temptation.  Our Pastor made it so relevant for the times we are in... ESPECIALLY the Anger one.  If you want to listen to these messages - check them out right HERE.

& then Ricky convinced me to go with him to Home Depot - which I was really anxious about hearing his stories about how no one seems to care of social distancing or masks... but he was so wrong. I would say about 75% of the store had masks on & everyone was really good at keeping distance.  I felt really good about the trip.  I was really anxious to get the mask off though when we got in the car because its no fun breathing through one in the middle of a big humid day.

I was almost ready to take a nap when we got home, but instead got caught up in the new Kimmy Schmidt movie. SO FUN! I missed those characters so much & I loved picking all the answers you KNOW you shouldnt pick. I need to do it again & pick different answers to see if it plays out differently.

Netflix Releases Trailer for 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt ...

Then it was HSM Zoom time...

Monday, I was just glad the hubby was home with me.

I made a big breakfast for us & then finished up my week in my Bible Study & watched my video to go with it.

It was anther hot & humid day but thunder was rolling & we kept getting some sprinkles & warnings of storms - though none really hit us.... but it brought in some cool breezes & the smell of rain. MMM.....love the smell of rain.

I ended up sitting on my porch & finished up reading the 2nd book in the series I'm currently in.

Finished that book up & headed over to do the horses giving Ricky a REAL day off from all the work.

Before I knew it, was after 9 & I had no idea. Where did that day go? At least it wasn't spent working - that's for sure!

So how was your weekend?

Do anything special for Memorial Day?

Are you able to venture out more with restrictions lifting?
