I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor...
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter & gasp -
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics & the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor,
Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in Hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, "What's the deal?
I would love to hear your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.
"And why's everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue."
"Hush child," He said, "They're all in shock.
No thought thought they'd be seeing you"
There is only one Lawgiver & JUDGE, the one who is able to save & destroy. But you - who are you to judge your neighbor? -James 3:12
LOVE that!!!! And funny... I've seen some of those faces here as they've heard that I am a Christian!!!Some people can't get past what they believe about you long enough to see what God is doing IN you! Ha! Gotta love God... the ONLY one whose opinion counts!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great poem!
ReplyDeleteI just did a post about grace today. What's so great is that we can ALL receive the gift of grace, if we will only accept it.
Have a great day, Rebecca! Hope you get outside today :)
I've never heard this. It's really good and so true. Thanks for sharing it today.
ReplyDeleteThat is great! Quit worrying about what you neighbor is or isn't doing....and spend some time focusing on your own "stuff"!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the gentle reminder this morning.
ReplyDeletehaha love that
ReplyDeleteI love this. LOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteI say this all the time--it isn't our place to judge. It isn't our place to tell someone what God thinks of them because it comes full circle. This little poem proves just that!
Thank you for sharing!
Now...if THAT'S not a good one...I don't know what is! :):)
ReplyDeleteHow cute! And so true! :)
ReplyDeleteUmmm... thanks for the reminder (and the laugh!)
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem!! My son has been in some trouble, and I was so disappointed that when I needed a friend not a single person in our church or either of the pastors could make a reassuring comment, call me or even just write a note. Not a single kind word from anyone--although I'm sure there were plenty of words said that were not kind!!
ReplyDeleteSo sad that there is no room in my church for a sinner.
this was such a great reminder! and OUCH! :) xoxo LA
