Christmas...Part Three (Yes this is it... promise)

I was so blessed this Christmas...from family, friends, & my husband who pretty much ROCKED out Christmas for me... so I wanna share some of the goodies I got...

This is a collection of goodies from so many people! I got yarn from a few friends (do my friends know me or what?) - got a new knitting book, a new yearly devotional & a monogrammed bag & monogrammed basket! I literally said, 'I think you could monogram dog poop & I'd get excited" - I LOVE monogrammed stuff. I already know I will be storing yarn in the basket & carrying yarn in my bag! See that flower on the bag? yep...It comes off... I can wear it in my hair.... I love that people actually brought me flowers for my hair (Dawn, you started that off giving me my first flower of the Christmas season!!)

Ricky got me this watch.... I am so excited to go running for the first time with it (which I think New Years Eve will be the day since it'll be in the high 50's). But this watch is not only a heart rate monitor, which I love & use for every run already, but this has a GPS on it!!! It will be able to tell me my EXACT distance, & my pace... I'm reading up on everything it can do, but it's going to come in so handy when the racing season starts up.

This beautiful bracelet was from my parents. Isnt it gorgeous? And it fits my wrists perfectly - which is funny because my wrists are the ONLY small thing on my body so usually bracelets fall down onto my hands. This one was like it was made for me...

Ricky got me my little snuggy boots because he knows I'm always complaining about how cold I am. If only he got me an extra pair to wear on my hands.... Thank goodness we dont have a cat because they would totally be chasing the fluff-balls hanging off the boots.

And then look at this.... I still smile & get giddy when I see it... I think I heard Angels singing when I opened up this box... its my new flash that Ricky got me.  It has manual settings on the back & this particular one even has a built in diffuser & shield that pulls out to bounce the light even more.  I.am.in.love.  Let me tell you, it makes the camera HEAVY though... But it makes the light look super amazing.  Did you see the picture of my dad with the twins?  Thank you new flash.

The BEST gift that I wasnt expecting?   Julie had one of these outdoor clothes hanger in her back yard & every time I visit, I've always said how jealous I was of it.  I love the smell of outdoor, dried sheets & clothing.  So, she totally surprised me with my very own outdoor hanger!!!! I am so excited about Spring time coming when I can get that fresh air in my house!!!!  I told her I never knew I could be so excited about laundry supplies!!!

(Obviously this is NOT in my backyard... if it were, snow would be drapped over the clothes right now
 - but it is what my rack looks like!)
I wanted to show you one of the gifts I got Ricky.  We were both excited about this.  Its called "The Action Bible" & it has all the stories of the Bible in COMIC BOOK FORMAT... its amazing!  Really!  It is labeled for a child - but I can tell you, both Ricky & I have already sat & read pages & pages of this Bible.  If you like comic books, or if you know someone who likes comic books - then this is a must!  It already came in handy with the twins... I'll have to tell you that story later.

You've already seen the GORGEOUS Cowl in my last Project 365.. & you've seen the beautiful hand-made calendar. So many wonderful things...I am just blessed... no other word for it...

So a BIG Whew... we made it through Christmas!  The tree & all the decorations are coming down today.  Time to store it all away for another 11 months.  Hope you all survived Christmas with lots of memories of family, of laughter, and of good times....

Now its time for a New Year... 2011, here we come!!!!

...this is it...

...yep... my last year in my 30's....

The final installment of my Christmas Blogs will continue tomorrow, but today, I'm taking a break because...

Today... I am 39 years old... wow...my last year in my 30's!

I can remember dreading turning 30 & now I'm one year away from 40?  How does that happen so quickly?

Thank you so much for all of you who already wished me a Happy Birthday on Facebook!  I love Facebook alone just for my birthday.  It cant help but put a smile on  your face when you wake up to 25 new messages of well wishes before 7:00 am...

So... I need your help....

Its the last year in my 30's & I want to see what fun or exciting or memorable things I can cram into the next 365 days.  I'd love to get a list of 40 things to take me into my 40th birthday....My bloggy friend Kelley is the same age I am, & on her birthday, she did this... it was great to see her final list.  So thanks for the idea Kelley!!!!

So far, I have on my list:

*Continue to stalk Steven Curtis Chapman until I get a picture with him
*Knock 30 minutes off my half marathon time from last year
*Get a pedicure ... (Do you know I've NEVER had a pedicure?  Still freaked out about doing it ... but this is a list of new experiences)

So give me some suggestions... what should I do in this next year?  What is something you've done that you are so glad you did... big or small?

And the first person who tells me to parachute... you are no longer my friend.... just saying...

Christmas Day... Part Two

...when we last met, Sophia was all about loving on Bruno & the scam of no gifts at Aunt Bec's house was given up as a cruel prank & it was time to rip into gifts.

So what was the favorite things the twins got from me?

Yep - Pillow Pets... these are the ones the girls asked for - a Unicorn for Madi & a Dolphin for Sophia.  (I"m still holding out for a Lamb Pillow Pet myself :) )

It was a great time of opening presents.  Who knew kids could go through 75 presents in like 13.7 seconds.  Geez... its an art to rip, tear, open, move on the the next - isnt it?  When you get older, it becomes, "Save the bow... dont tear the paper too badly.... dont get a paper cut.... who has a knife to open the package?" ... its all so much slower...

Bruno wasnt phased by all the action.  This once again is proof that he's the laziest dog in the world.  Presents were being torn into - paper thrown like confetti - waded paper tossed to my dad who was the Official Garbage Bag Holder (doesnt every Christmas have one of those? a OGBH?)...but Bruno didnt move during the whole time.  Just laid right in the middle of it & was content to just lay... he was even under paper at one point & still didnt move... that's my kinda dog!

We're looking at what everyone got & then all of a sudden, I turn around & see Madi... no one even told her to do this - she just crawled in this gift bag & was sitting there watching everyone.  Isnt that so adorable?  We all noticed her & got to laughing... & that just tickled her.  I told her its a good thing I didnt throw her out with the trash....Ricky was just amazed she fit in the bag.  I think he wanted to try to see if he could fit in it himself... he's competitive like that...

Presents open... so it was time to move back into the kitche for MORE FOOD!  And even better?  SUGAR!  We decorated some cookies.  I was helping Sophia & she chose a penguin to do.  I have to say, I think it turned out pretty well.  Go TEAM SOPHIA & AUNT BEC!!!!!

The bad thing though... black icing is messy!  Being older & wiser, I stayed away from it.  I let Sophia get the black icing on her hands & face... Black icing only looks cute on faces under 8 yrs old... its a fact...
by the way - this next picture totally just blew my mind - she looks so much like her daddy here.  I always thought she looked like me & this is the first time I didnt see it - I saw Tony's face... I told her to STOP IT right then & there & to start looking like me again.  So she gave me a dramatic face... & she's back to looking like Aunt Bec!  (I love this drama loving girl!)

Madi got her Papaw to help her with her cookie.  She also chose a penguin but in her world, penguins arent black - their rainbow colored.  Ahh - the mind of a child.  Madi knew how to play it too - she had my dad doing all the hard work while she just licked icing off the cookie, or her hands, or off the table... icing is good off any object...

It was then time for MORE SUGAR!  But it was the best kind of sugar... it was Jesus' Birthday Cake.  It was so cute because I told the girls, "We have to blow out the candles for Jesus" - Sophia said, "Why? Because he's not here?"... I was quick to tell her that He was INDEED there with us!" -  She just gave me the cutest grin trying to wrap her little mind around that.  I took a picture & then Sophia asked me, "Are you going to send that picture to Heaven so Jesus can see it?" ... now that's some email that can send all the way to Heaven :)

So I couldnt find any birthday candles ... sigh... but I didnt let that stop me!  I got out a tea light candle & lit it... we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus & my mom & the girls blew out the candle...

It was a great way to end a Christmas Celebration... so stuffed that I couldnt move....

And then the worst thing of the night... our baby girl, Lindsay Kay came over to have Christmas with me & her dad... & I didnt take ONE PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I think by this point of the night - after all the eating, then cleaning up & the food-baby I was carrying - I think I zoned out into a Christmas coma.  Something must have happened because I cant believe I didnt get one picture of her with her dad... I ALWAYS get a picture of Lindsay & Ricky together... except 2010... because I'm a loser... A sugar filled, exhausted loser...

Believe me when I say that Lindsay was beautiful too... had on the cutest heels, had her hair fixed so festive.  Maybe her beauty stunned me?  I'm trying to think of a good excuse why I didnt have my camera clicking... but rest assured, we had a wonderful time with our girl....

So we still have one more Christmas post... Part Three... Its some of my wonderful gifts I got this year...

....to be continued...

...again...

Christmas Day... Part One

I get a wake up call from Ricky Christmas morning... he's leaning on the side of the bed, his face right in mine & I hear, "Its 7:00" ... like a little kid waiting to run down to see what Santa has.  I open one eye & say, "Why did you just wake me up?" ... he told me he thought I wanted to start baking early.  Well, yeah.... but 7:00 am?  I guess for Ricky, 7:00 am is kinda on the late side... mercy, give me strength Lord.

So I get up & what do I see?  Snow on the ground... beautiful, white, fluffy snow.  It was perfect because everything was covered, EXCEPT the roads - so the travel wouldnt be affected for anyone.

Into my kitchen I went... I started baking some new recipes.. & my kitchen smelled like sugar heaven.  Here is a picture of the Praline crackers I made - & I tried a recipe for Triple Fudge Bars ..... WHEW WEEEEE - they were wonderful!  Chocolate heaven!  And then we warmed up Cinnamon Rolls that Julie made, from Texas. I am assuming they are from the Pioneer Woman, because Julie loves all her recipes... I think in just the few cinnamon rolls we ate, Ricky & I each had a stick of butter that was in them... they were INCREDIBLE... only on Christmas morning can a calorie count reach 1,000 before 8:00 am

Ricky & I had our Christmas together... it was wonderful & I'll show you in Part 3 some of the goodies he got me... Part 3?  Yes - I dont want to have a blog post that takes all day to read & 150 pictures.... I'm only thinking of you bloggy friends :)

My family came over later in the afternoon... & we werent lacking food!  I must have been too busy eating to take pictures of the food because I didnt get a darn-tooting-one.  If I took pictures, I probably ate them... I'm telling you - anything in my path was in danger of getting chomped down!  My parents bought a honey-baked-ham & between that & all the finger foods & deserts - I know I gained a good 5 lbs... Merry Christmas to me...

It was time to take some pictures of the twins with their Papaw & their Yaya

Sophia was then ready to give her undivided attention to BRUNO!!! She loves my little fur-baby... All the other dogs ended up outside (dont worry, they have a heated enclosed room to go into) but Bruno does nothing but just lay & want to be held, so he's no problems in crowds.  And that's just what Sophia was happy about - Bruno's undivided attention.

How do you not love both of these faces?

Then.... the TIME ARRIVED... put all the dogs, grandparents, food, anything aside... it was time to get BUSY...just what the twins were excited for.  When they came over, they said, "Do you have any presents for us Aunt Bec?" - I kept saying, "No. Do you love me anyways?" - they just laughed & walked away every time... like, "dont even play with us - no presents on Christmas Day aint even a joke" ... so when they saw they indeed had a few presents, they were all giddy... the excitement of kids on Christmas Day... nothing like it...

What's in the boxes?  You'll have to check back for Part 2....

Believe me, there are more pictures of these adorable girls... how can you think about missing that? :)

Project 365-43

Whew.... Christmas week!  Was everyone else running around frantic & frazzled?  Here's what my week looked like...

Sunday - Vincent Christmas .... For the 4th year now, we've made it tradition to go to Ricky's sister the Sunday before Christmas to get together with Ricky's family. Christmas Eve & Christmas Day is so hectic for everyone, so it makes it really nice for us to take time together on a much easier, breathable day.  Ricky's sister has the most gorgeous home & Martha Stewart has NOTHING on the way she decorates.  Just the little touches that Pam does make the biggest differences...

Monday - Now THAT'S a Monday.... I walk in my job bright & early thinking it was going to be a easy week - after all, its Christmas week.  Well, if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you'll see it was ANYTHING but easy.  Our system crashed & EVERYTHING back to April had to be re-entered.  It wasnt finished on Monday by the way (we're STILL working on it) - & then my mailbox was fuller then I've seen it in a long time... it was the definition of "Monday"

Tuesday - What happens when you bite your back.... Sydney has a spot on her back that she keeps biting.  She had bitten it so bad that it was starting to bleed & it was getting DEEP.  Every time we'd yell at her to stop biting, she would... for 2 minutes... then start back at it again.  We used to have one of those cones that you put around their heads, but are clueless to where its at.  So we did the next best thing - put a shirt on her where she couldnt get to it... & it really worked.  She even slept in it & was all cuddled up in her shirt when we woke up... It's like a Doggie Snuggie!!!!

Wednesday - I'm too sexy for this cowl!!!! .... We met our awesome friends, the Neals, for dinner & to celebrate Christmas.  It's always so much fun when we get together... Lynn made me this gorgeous, amaizng cowl.  I'm telling you - I am in love with it.  Carly tried it on & I told her to give me a sexy look.  She said, "Why? So it can be on your Project 365?" - Well, there you go.  Its the perfect picture for my Project 365 for Wednesday...we had some great laughs at Carly's "sexy"

Thursday - Grocery = INSANE!!!!! .... Oh my goodness... I thought going to the grocery the day before Thanksgiving was bad?  NO WAY - didnt even compare to this grocery shopping spree.  It was insane.  It took me about an hour & a half to get through - I got bumped by carts an unmentionable number of times - I literally got stuck in an aisle & couldnt get in the "flow" & sat in one spot for 15 minutes.  It was a good thing I stopped & got some Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate beforehand to get me through...

Friday - Waiting for Santa...Yes, it was Ricky's Birthday... & I didnt get any pictures.  We were up shopping from 7:30 am until 4:30... & I didnt get any pictures.  I finished wrapping every present we had... & I didnt get any pictures.  I ran over & saw my friends, Joe & Erica & precious baby Emily for a little bit... & I didnt get any pictures.  Our friends, Ryan & Chasity came over to have Christmas together... & I forgot pictures...but at the end of the night, when everything was calming down, I remembered a picture. & I love it... it's just calm... the waiting for Christmas Day...

Saturday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!!!!!! ... enough said...

Oh - I've got tons more pictures to post of our Christmas Day with family... & the goodies Santa brought me! ;)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas week...cant wait to see your pictures...

Be sure to visit back by to see all the fun pictures of our Christmas celebration....

Merry Christmas

"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;
he is the Messiah, the Lord"
Luke 2:11

....Happy Birthday Jesus....

You're old...

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve...

But in our home, we try to delay the Christmas celebration... sometimes even trying not to acknowledge Christmas Eve until we head to church for the midnight service...

Instead, in our house, its another day to celebrate - RICKY'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

Yep - he got screwed over having a Christmas birthday :)

So we try to remember to put Christmas off until Christmas DAY & give Ricky a day, or at least a few hours of celebrating just his birthday.  Ricky doesnt mind too much though that he & Jesus are close on their birthdays...
He always says, "Me & Jesus are tight like that" ...

With the 24th going to be busy, because while it IS his birthday & we'll be celebrating that, we'll still be doing some Christmas & grocery shopping - so I wanted to be sure to post something early so it wasnt lost in the hectic-ness of the day...

So Happy Birthday my biggest pain in the butt fantastic husband!  I wish on your birthday another year of health, happiness, & laughter ... even in the rough moments of life.  I love you ...punk!

A Birthday is just the first day of another
365-day journey around the sun.
Enjoy the trip!!

What they dont tell you when you start to blog....

I dont even remember when or why I started to blog.  I think it was a place I was just going to keep my knitting projects listed.  And then I didnt even keep up with that.  Then my dearest friend, Stephanie passed away in 2007 & this became a place that I talked about it...  & then I just kept talking, about anything & everything & it just sort of evolved.  I had no idea what my blog would turn into - or where it will go in the future - but I do think it has reflected who I am over the years...

But there is something I didnt expect when I started to blog - something I dont think people tell anyone - I think a lot of you know what I'm talking about... the friendships you make through this crazy thing we call, BlogLand ....

I get a card in the mail that I have a package at the post office & what do I find - but a box from my lovely, wonderful Sister in Christ, Dawn ... & I open it up & its just full of fun!

Does this lady know me or what?  A BIG OLE BAG of Pretzel M&M's - Princess mugs with hot chocolate, fun, furry socks, & the prettiest GOLD FLOWER hair clip that anyone has ever seen!  Top it off with the most amazing handmade, scrapbooked calendar & a beautifully written letter & I was giddy with excitement & teary from the thought!

These pages of this calendar were individually made!  Scripture everywhere... thought & heart put into it.  This month even had a little extra!!!  The area that is circled - her grandbaby did that part... how precious is that?

This is one of my favorite page (heck, they all are one of my favorites!)... I love old vintage dresses... Can you imagine a time where women wore nothing but dresses & heels? I'm thankful ladies we dont do that now, but I do love the classic look of it...

And this page just made me stop for a second... It made me think of my friend Stephanie... everything we did together had "Princess" written all over it - & Dawn's hand writing here even looks like Stephanie's handwriting... I had to laugh at how God puts people in your lives at the exact moment....

THANK YOU DAWN - This is one of the best gifts I have EVER gotten... I appreciate this & I appreciate YOU!!!!!!  More then words can say... I hope you know that!!!!

And Dawn isnt the only amazing person I have met in this world...

AuburnChick who was probably one of my first blog friends - she inspires me with her love for Jesus & shows it in the unique area where she teaches children, & is a mad-crazy-awesome knitter & Starbucks lover!!! & the biggest cheerleader for her kiddos...& of course, my Dancing with the Stars future co-host! :)

Deidre who is the most amazing mom to the most AMAZING daughters.  They teach me so much themselves with the young hearts they have for Jesus -  that Deidre led the way for them to understand who Jesus is.  Thanks lady for all the smiles you put on everyone's faces with your girls & your honesty....

Heather who I KNOW I'm going to see one day - we're only an hour & a half away from each other.  This is another amazing mom (so many fantastic moms!!!) & a nurse that gives so much of herself for others!  Whether it be her family, the patients she deals with, or the girls she touches when she volunteers at "Girls on the Run" .... you need to see this lady's handiwork in card-making too... And another woman who shines with God's love

Lauren who just makes me so happy with her precious heart.  She's a young lady who just SHINES joy!  My days would be so glum without Lauren.... while we have "discussions" all day about Glee, the latest hot topics, dating & life in general - good & bad... I cant wait to get to Florida to meet this lady... I'm going to hug the tar out of her when I see her!!!

Heidi, Gretta, Amy, Trina, Carolina Girl, Kelley, Mimi, Sarah Beth, April, Pooba ... I can go on & on... so many fantastic ladies, so many different personalities

These are women that I check on through their blogs (or Twitter or Facebook) - make sure they are OK... wonder how their days are going ... wonder how their kiddos and families are doing... wondering what's the latest in their lives...

& I turn to these ladies myself - asking for prayers & KNOWING they are lifting up my situations to God's ears for me...

It really is a weird sort of family that you meet when you blog...& you love your family...

So for all my blog world family members, mentioned & unmentioned, I thank you for the surprise that I discovered here in the world of blogs...

You all make me smile, cry, laugh,  feel encouraged, challenge me to become a better person, teach me things... I love you all!

....Yep - they dont tell you that's going to happen....

Haunted...

Yesterday was an INSANE kinda day...it gave the defintion of what a "Monday" is.  I had to work late but when I left, I needed to run over to my grandfather's house.  I dont really stop to think about it, but I'm very lucky to have my grandfather still around. He'll be 90 years old in July... applause for my Paps!

It's always funny to talk to him... he's kinda scattered brained.  I dont know if its because of age, or its just a family gene because I know when I talk, I can be a tad scattered brain myself.... (No comments about that please) :)

He's talking about Teenie (my grandmother who has been with Jesus for 13 years now), dating since she's passed away (which cracks me up when I give my grandfather dating advice), family updates on how everyone is doing, looking at pictures of all the grandchildren when we were little... that house holds lots of memories.

Something else that holds memories?  My Pap's mind... & sometimes, those memories arent pleasant.  Paps was in World War II & he served overseas in Europe.  Stories he tells just give me chills - stories of driving tanks in pitch black wondering if they were going to explode, stories of his feet being so frost bitten that they thought they would have to ampute, storie of his kidney's not working, stories of his war buddies &  how he returned home without some of those buddies since they lost their life in battle...

Not all memories are good memories... some can really haunt, can't they?

My Paps when I grew up was a ... how do I say it... I guess I can say he was a "Man's man" - I dont want to say he was "Hard" but he wasnt really affectionate, not a lot of hugs & "I love you's" - he was funny & could make a KILLER breakfast, but he was just a Man's Man...

I only saw my grandfather cry when we saw my grandmother for the first time at the funeral home....

And then last night, he was telling me how he's having such bad flashbacks & memories of the war.  He said when he opens his eyes, its like he's there, reliving it, seeing it - like he can reach out & touch things that he saw in the past... & then he put his head down & his face just fell down & tears just came to his eyes & he just started sobbing....

I told him when this happens he needs to focus on the fact that he came HOME from the war & he's had many fantastic memories since then... but I know those words are much easier said then done.

Driving home, I thought about how we all have some sort of haunting memories.  Decisions you wish you didnt make, things that happened to you that you wish never did,  the road you wish you took instead of the one you went down... "if you could do it again" kinda memories...

It scared me a bit to see that after all these years, my grandfather was still being haunted by these things... would my "haunted memories" hold that much power over me when I'm 90?  Do yours hold that much power over you?

Its moments like that is where I am even more convinced I need Jesus... to hand those memories over to Him - for Him to ease my mind, to find peace, to see that God takes anything & everything & makes it work for the good of those who love Him... it made me remember that when memories of the past can wear us down, that Jesus has come for the weary & who carries heavy burdens & exchanges it for rest...

I pray that if anything is haunting you, sitting in your memory, that you too find some sort of peace today in Jesus...

God is our refuge & strength, always ready to
help in times of trouble
-Psalms 46:1

Project 365-42

Its been a crazy week... heading into Christmas... whew... here's my past week in pictures...

Sunday - Christmas Program ... We work so hard to get this one night together.  I mean, our Ensemble starts practicing songs back at the end of September.  Yes, when its still warm out, we're singing Christmas songs, trying to get it just right for these few hours on this one night.  We werent even sure it would get pulled off with bad weather coming in, but it did... with the little kids playing their bells (this is what this picture is - their holding their little hand bells to their chest) & the elementary school kids singing & then our Ensemble.  We even were able to sing with a string quartet... I got chills myself listening... Now, time to start practicing Easter songs...

Monday - Snow Day .... so the result of the snow from Sunday evening meant schools were closed in our area. But snow days dont mean a day off work.  I just enjoy when schools are closed because that means we can wear jeans to work.  I'll take that!  It was so darn cold too... It is definitely making it feel like its the Christmas season....

Tuesday - My roots are showing!!! ... with all the stress of the season, or living with Ricky - one or the other - my roots were showing something crazy!  I could tell it was bad when the other day I was getting ready for bed, Ricky said, "When is your hair appointment?" - I said, "Why, because my grey is starting to show?" - He just smiled.  I stomped his toe... that'll teach him!

Wednesday - Here comes the ice... We canceled church because the ice was coming.  That totally threw me off on what day of the week it was.  But the sleet started during the evening & it was just shiny slick.  This picture isnt focused very well since its through the window - but you can see how shiney & smooth everything is... that's just ice...slippery, cold, slick ice... yuck!

Thursday - Ice Ice Baby .... yep, you've all probably read all the stories of the ice & snow & our driveway adventures over the past few days... but here is proof.  I went out & chipped some of the ice from the drive & it was coming up in hunks like this... brrrrr... if that dont make you cold, I dont know what would...

Friday - Cozy day in the office... because of the weather, the office was very quiet.  It was just me & one other lady, so I fired up a candle & cranked up the heat in my office & it was just a cozy day.  My candle made the whole floor smell like cinnamon.... working in a warm office that smells good was WAY better then being out in the cold.. for sure...

Saturday - Wrapping away... its the last weekend before Christmas & I didnt leave the house.  How messed up is THAT?  But Ricky had to work in the morning & he had his Christmas party that evening so I knew he couldnt go shopping.  I decided just to get all the wrapping done of everything we had.  I'm tired...especially after hours - & I mean HOURS of wrapping... Now my kitchen is full of cardboard rolls & empty tape dispensers...

So next week is THE week... Christmas week... unbelievable... cant wait to see all of your pictures building up to the big day...Keep those cameras near!
