The weekend that had me calling 911 on Thanksgiving...

It's official... the Christmas season has begun. Thanksgiving is behind us.

& for me & my family - I'm super glad to have made it through another one.

If you remember my post from last year - it was the holiday that I spent it all alone, eating microwave mac & cheese sitting at my kitchen counter while The Hubs was with his family & my mom was sick & my brother had to take her around to find a pharmacy open so she could get a prescription filled.  Forget COVID - I'm apparently used to spending the holidays alone.

I guess it's just a tradition now that Thanksgiving is just going to be full of drama & sickness & this time, we took it up a notch with a 911 call.  It was pretty awful...

Thanksgiving started off with the usual stuff... some pumpkin pie making & watching the Macy's Day Parade... which was so bizarre, wasn't it?  I'm glad they still did something at all & with a song from Hamilton performed, it was enough for me.

All the Thanksgiving plans we usually had were all changed with COVID this year.  The Hubs family canceled have their get together as usual so he was home with me.  My brother's household was finishing up some quarantining after a COVID positive in their family (everyone is OK & is now on the other side of it) so I just made some food for The Hubs & I & was making my mom a plate to take over to her.

It's funny because someone asked me what a vegetarian makes for Thanksgiving when you dont eat turkey... I ended up making a roasted cauliflower head. It was DELICIOUS!!!! With a ton of sides.  We were STUFFED by the end. A Thanksgiving round bellies for both of us....

Before
Right out of the oven

... & then the downfall of the holiday...

I took my mom a plate & a pie & knocked on her door, went in like I usually do... & immediately knew something was wrong from the minute I walked in the door.

I walked back to her bedroom & find her laying on the floor.

It was bad... really bad.  I'll just say, I can tell she had been laying there awhile.  She looked up at me confused & I was by myself & couldnt get her up.  She wasn't acting right anyways so I had to call 911.

The lady on the phone was so kind & helpful & stayed on the phone with me having me ask mom questions -which she wasn't answering - & a young lady from the fire department got there first.  She was just the youngest thing - but she was so good with mom. So sweet & gentle with her.  She got mom to respond some to her... & then here came another firefighter & then the ambulance got there.

They were shooting questions at me asking the last time someone talked to her or seen her - I had just taken her shopping & I was looking around her house to see if I could find anything out.  It was a lot .. overwhelming.  We figured she had been laying there probably about 12 hours... if not longer.  But they moved fast & she was in the ambulance & gone in a blink of an eye.

They told me I wasn't able to go to the hospital with her & they would call me with any news...so the rest of my Thanksgiving was just a lot of phone calls from the ER nurse - ER Doctor - the hospital pharmacy - the admittance team - another nurse.... it was crazy.  They ended up admitting her & getting her to a room late in the evening.

If you wonder why I have pictures...
I was sending them to my brother to give him updates what was going on

... I think our Wood family Thanksgivings are just jinxed now.  I have never really been a big fan of that holiday. I think I can attest that I REALLLLY dont care for Thanksgiving anymore.

Friday was Black Friday & just felt so weird.  The Hubs & I have gone out EVERY Black Friday since we've been together- over 28 years.  We've done the 2am wake up calls to be in line standing in freezing temps for hours on end - these were the days that stores werent open on Thanksgiving.  We have loaded up the car, came home to drop off & go back out to shop more.  We get out there to find all the deals.  This Black Friday in 2020.. we never left the house.  I take that back - I had to run over to mom's to take care of her cats... but I did that even in my house shoes.

Such a different Black Friday

I ended up getting phone calls all day about mom from the hospital.  All the tests they had run on mom came back OK so they werent sure what happened.  The neurologist had called to talk to me too - & they were waiting to run an MRI on her.  I had talked to mom for a little bit on the phone & she just still wasn't making any sense... it was after 6pm & they were still waiting to take her down to the MRI.

Saturday, I had to run down to drop off books at the library & they had called me & told me they were moving mom to the rehab center shes been at a few times already.  When the EMT had taken mom out of the house on Thursday, she had nothing on her or with her.  When I found her, she didnt have anything on - & they had just thrown a sheet around her & taken her so fast... so she had nothing to go to the rehab center with.

I came back up to our area & packed up her stuff & they told me I wouldnt be able to see her there.  I got there with all her belongings & they told me she had JUST been transported there so if I wanted to take her stuff to her room & help her get settled - they would let me. Because with her being in this nursing home/rehab facility, they said she would be quarantined in her room for 2 weeks with no visitors at all.  & if she's there after 2 weeks, we have to make an appointment to visit her in a heated tent they have out in the parking lot.  I was grateful I got to take the stuff up & see her for a bit.

They were all over keeping things as safe as possible.  Of course the temp & normal questions - but they gave me that face mask too - they had brand new ones in packages, you opened them when they handed it to you - & they said no one could walk around without both the mask & face shield. I had to stay 6 feet away from her too - but glad to even get to check on her.  They gave me 15 minutes to see her & then I had to leave.

It worked  out well because I got to help fill out her paper work with her nurse & see how she was doing. She looked really good actually.  Her arms were tore up for the needles in the ER (you can see bruises on her arm even in the pic above) - but she always bruises easily & they have issues finding her veins.  She was still a little confused on some things but she understood where she was & what had happened.

I spent the rest of my evening on the couch watching some Christmas movies with The Hubs.  We watched the new The Christmas Chronicles 2 on Netflix & we both enjoyed it so much more than the first  one.  I just think Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn are just the cutest together.

Sunday, we got up early & thank goodness I had made a cup of coffee earlier than I usually do because it wasn't too late in the morning when our electricity popped off.  We thought it would be just a on / off thing because we had noticed it had gone off in the middle of the night also... nope - it was off for 2.5 hours!  At least it wasn't freezing out.

I had ran over to my mom's to let the cats out for awhile & saw the issue.  Apparently a car had wrecked in a pole in the middle of the night & they rigged it to get us through the night - but had come back to replace the whole pole & lines.

It worked out well that it was a sunny & decent enough day. I wrapped up in a blanket & grabbed a book & sat in the sunshine & read.... missing my coffee.  I almost ran down to the gas station to get a cup of coffee - that's how desperate I was - LOL!

The Hubs & I were sitting outside on the porch - me reading, he was in the lounge chair with the dogs laying on him... & all of a sudden we heard the neighbors heater come on. I jumped up so fast, my blanket just dropped... WE WERE BACK ON. I never made coffee so fast in my life.

Nothing exciting happened the rest of my weekend. Just ran back over to mom's to feed the cats & make sure they were in the house for the night. It's getting cold here the next 2 days - even a chance of snow!!!

Can you see Cochese waiting at the gate for some treats  #spoiledboy

I talked to mom for awhile & she was excited to have Hallmark Channel up there in her room.  They're going to start working with her tomorrow in her room since she's quarantined... so we'll see how this week goes with her.

I appreciate all the messages so many of you sent me & the prayers lifted about mom...

& I hope you all had a safe Thanksgiving. I know so many people actually did what was requested & kept the celebrations down to households or followed guidelines of eating outside.  I know it was just a hard, difficult holiday for a lot of people.  Let's just look forward to 2021!

Did you do any Black Friday Shopping?

What was your best deal?

How different did your Thanksgiving look?

& let's give it up to the amazing first responders that worked  on the Holiday & were amazing at what they do!

The big day for gratitude!!! {Thankful Thursday #288}

This is the big one!

The day that focuses on being Thankful for than any other day.

& Before we get started on this - want to give a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BROTHER.
He probably has never read my blog ever in the 13 years I've been up & running - but hey, Shout out to him anyways.

So today, I'm going to just look at the past year & look at the big picture of the things we are blessed with.  Because even in the midst of craziness & feeling like the world is out of control, there's still blessings abound.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.   1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

It's been a crazy year & Thanksgiving is looking quite different.
Nothing like I think anyone could have ever imagined.

Even still... I am grateful for:

My family... even though we can't see a lot of them this past year - its always good to know love abounds.  Yes, we miss the hugs & the time spent together... but again BIG PICTURE thinking.

My job ... working from home in the middle of a global pandemic has just been amazingly wonderful. I know so many are struggling and/or out of a job & I never, not one day, take for granted for the incredible firm I work for & what they do for their employees to keep everyone safe.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.   1 Chronicles 16:34

Social Media... yes, it gives me a lot of anxiety, but I've learned what to read, who NOT to read, & I am grateful for the connection it still allows to one another.  Also, I'm thankful for the laughs it has given me.  People that create all the memes & funny comments - they have been such a light to me over the months. I have had actual tears from laughing at some of the funny stuff on social media.

Bible Studies... being rooted in God's Word. What a comfort its been to see what God says to us & for us - knowing that the world has always gone through some crazy situations & it keeps trucking along.

Scientists - Doctors & Nurses- Civil Servants .... I am so grateful for the people who fight to keep us all healthy.  The people who are smart enough to figure out what viruses exist & even smarter to create vaccines that normally take years & they know the seriousness & work tirelessly to help get it under control.  What can we say about the front line workers who deal with a virus that can take their own life.  Yet, they keep working to nurse people back to health. Truly angels on earth.  Especially for the ones that have to hold the hand of the many that pass away without any loved ones around them.  The nurses that step into that spot & give compassion in the worst possible situation... bless them.  & yes, I am grateful for the politicians, the civil servants who do things to try & make us healthy.  I know a lot of people get angry & frustrated at the leaders, but if people would realize they are doing things & taking steps in order to gain control over a virus - not over the American people.  I guarantee they would never shut down their cities for their benefit, or to take away anyone's civil liberties just for the fun of it - they are trying to help a situation that just continues to get out of control. I think its a sad day when people get hate, death threats & all the back lash when they are just trying to protect others.  Bless all the people who have to make the hard decisions.

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. .... Psalm 9:1

Books, Streaming Services, Crafts.... all the things to distract your mind & take you away from the news for awhile.

The Hubs... I mean, I dont think we've spent more time together since we were dating WAYYyyyyYYYY back in the day. It's good to see we still get along - LOL.  We had some good ole fights discussions during the political season, but we can still sleep in the same bed, & stay under the same roof.  There's a lesson... you CAN disagree about politics & still get along with one another..... But he's been so great where he has been working outside of the house & he calls me every day to see what we need at home so I dont have to go out.  Taking the virus seriously is one thing I'm glad we do agree on.

Our Heavenly Father & the gift of Jesus... you know I wasn't going to end a Thanksgiving post & not give Thanks to the one who makes ALL things possible.  To the One who gives me Hope... the One that comforts me & gives me peace when I get anxious.  The One who reminds me that this is a fallen world & will never be without conflict & this is not our home. The One who reminds me that we are ALL children of His & we should care for one another, no matter what color skin is, no matter what religion, no matter what political party... He loves us all, so we should do the same.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.....Colossians 3:17

& what would a gratitude list of 2020 be without.... drum roll... TOILET PAPER!!!!  Because we knew it was important, but we never really realize HOW important.  It's like that saying, You dont know what you have until its gone.  We'll never look at it the same way again after 2020

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving
 - especially if you're celebrating differently.
Know that you sacrificing a little for your comfort & enjoyment can cause a huge ripple for someone else's health & safety for future holidays together.

Here's to hopes of a better & healthier 2021!

The weekend I dislike Prince Charles all over again....

 Hello Monday!

When you have a Monday with a short work week ahead, its not so bad.
Can anyone else believe its Thanksgiving this week?  I mean, the whole year has been some sort of dark hole or portal of weirdness... so I guess it shouldnt surprise me we're at the holidays while half the country is going back into lock down.

Friday, I didnt really do a lot after I signed off at work. I had felt so nauseated all day long - actually the day before too.  So I was just looking forward to laying in bed &not doing much.  I did end up Christmas shopping online & got The Hubs some gifts, which is exciting for me.  But that was the extent of my excitement on a Friday night.

Saturday, I set my alarm at 7am.  The Hubs laughed at me... but I wanted to get a heads start at the grocery. I knew it was going to be a mad house the weekend before Thanksgiving & I did NOT want to be in a crowded grocery store with Covid numbers going up like rockets every day.  I figured the best time was early early early.

You can see I pulled out of my drive way at 7:31 am....a woman on a mission.

I got to the grocery & was actually surprised at how many other people had the same idea. It was more crowded than I expected.  I ended up chatting with a lady in the spice aisle because she thought I was her supervisor- LOL - she said we had the exact same build, the exact same color of hair - even length of hair.  They say everyone has a twin.  But she even said the same thing, that she was surprised at the crowds & how empty the shelves were.  Luckily, I ended up with everything i needed on my list - except for pumpkin. After walking around the store 3 times looking for it, I gave up... ended up picking up some at Target later in the evening.

I had to do a bank run & drop off at the UPS store, so when I got home by 9am, I already felt like I had accomplished a lot for the day.

It was such a rainy, gloomy Saturday ... & also Sunday... so any free time I had, I was ready to jump into Season 4 of The Crown!!! I was so excited about this one because I love me some Princess Diana.  This is my era.  I remember all of it!  The first days of the paparazzi chasing her - the engagement announced - & of course the wedding.

I had gotten through just 2 episodes when The Hubs needed to pick up a gift for me I had been wanting for Christmas. There was one left & he got it on hold & we had to go get it.  Yep, I already know what it is & I'm super excited....A Canon Ivy Printer.

I am so excited to use this to print out pictures for my planner for 2021.  I want to use my Passion Planner for memory keeping a lot & I will probably print a pic or two & put in my planner each week.  I cant wait till Christmas to use it.

I ended up staying in the car while The Hubs ran in.... I just sat back & listened to my What What Crappens podcast & people watched. Pure entertainment..

On the way home, we ended up stopping at the Pie Kitchen & we each picked up a slice of Reese's cake. Y'all... Y'ALL... DELISH.  Just the thing you need when the world seems to be falling apart.

I will say - I dont know if it was the cake I ate on top of me getting old. ... I could NOT go to sleep. I had the worst heart burn.  I figured I would be tired & knock out early with getting up early & running around all day... nope. The heartburn was so intense, I felt like I couldnt even swallow - which made me have some panic attacks - which makes you not feel like you can swallow. It was a circle of misery... The Hubs kept waking up &checking on me & I was like, "Yep, still up"... I believe at 1:30am, I asked him if he wanted to play a game. He said, "Sure"... LOL - but I didnt make him - I let him go back to sleep. I finally took some TUMS & ended up falling asleep around 2:30am. Geezz... that was NOT a fun night.

Sunday - I ended up sleeping in till 9:00am - which felt nice - & again, it was grey & drizzly & cold. I'd rather stay in bed anyways.

I was on a mission though. 2 things. 1. Finish watching The Crown & 2. Get Christmas decorations going.

It worked out really nice & well for me because I honestly would go downstairs & get one tote of decorations - come up & put it up & then wait awhile & take it down, get another & repeat.  It made it laid back  & I didnt have a room full of 7 totes & boxes everywhere.  I'll have to adapt this method every year - made it very stress free.  Also, gave me some butt toning work doing the steps over & over.

And I finished up Season 4.... & ended up just wanting to spit every time Charles came on my screen.  I think its funny that they make it seem like he had issues with people like Diana more & he apparently desires the approval of everyone.. & yet here we are once again, this making him look so bad & people once again disapproving of him. If that's not Karma....

I wonder how much of this is true. Probably 0.0002% ... but I'm taking it like an autobiography.  Good stuff. & heart breaking.  Poor Diana.  She was set up from the beginning for heartache, wasn't she? She was just a kid.... & is it me, but is it just ok for everyone in England to have affairs & everyone be ok with it as long as its agreed or arranged? Geez. What is wrong with everyone. Gross.

& if that scene is true where Charles makes fun of Diana about that Phantom of the Opera thing (I dont want to spoil too much)... Then I'm done with him. I was sitting on my couch yelling at that one... YOU JERK! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? ... I take my royalty stuff seriously y'all! SER-IOUS-LY!

So I'm ready for Thanksgiving week. I have my cabinets full.... I have my tree up glowing in the corner... & we're not going out & doing a darn thing.  Just more online shopping & dinner at home with a cauliflower head instead of a turkey.   The life of a vegetarian household. #saveaturkey

How was your weekend?

Do you have your decorations up yet?

Did you watch The Crown?

Whose side are you on - Charles or Diana?

Thankful Thursday #287

This week I am Thankful for:

Week day brownies
Anyone else more apt to bake on the weekend over the week days?  is that just me?... well, one night I was wanting something sweet to eat & had just bought a box of Ghirardelli brownie mix to make. (My fav - & I'm ont a brownie fan).  I ended up making these late - the Hubs was asleep, which meant i got to lick the bowl (I know - you're not supposed to - but hey) & the hot brownies on a cold night was just a hug to my heart.

One Marked off Christmas List
Christmas is going to look different - it just is. Or I should say, it SHOULD look different. I know some people are going on with their MERRY lives, having holidays as usual.... sigh..... but I am grateful that I already have someone marked off my list. Before Thanksgiving.  This may very well be a holiday miracle. I hope I can keep at it & keep marking off more each day. We're really trimming back so that will be helpful too.

Stickers
If you read my post yesterday, or have been around here for awhile, you know I love me some planners & planner accessories. I ended up treating myself to some new stickers for my planner & I am super excited. I love this ladies stickers.  She makes the women in 3 different skin tones too. Yeah diversity.  I just love the little add on's too with the ladies.  Little coffee's or computers or whatnots. She even had a Knitter girl - yeppp - mine mine mine.

New Fall TV
Love seeing some new shows back on. I watch & wonder how they filmed some of these with all the COVID restrictions... but glad to see some new stuff.  Have you seen how they're doing The Price is Right?  It's a new world. Glad to see the creativity though.

Working from home with sunshine
I will say, working from home has been a blessing - but with the time change, its been even better.  I get so depressed with no sunshine when I sit in the office & never see sunlight & come home when its getting dark.  At least working from home, I'm sitting by the window & can go out & sit in it or walk at lunch.  It's helped me SO MUCH.

Tell me something good in your week.....

Does the Amplify Planner have it all?

So I've been a failure over the past few months on posting all things planner...but I'm excited to join in with the with the beautiful  Alexandra Lauren .  My last post was in September when I walked about the planners I was trying out.  I've been exclusively in one planner for the past month & a half & wanted to share what I thought....

If you remember - or if not, I'll remind you - I won an Amplify Planner. You can click right HERE to go to their site & look around.

What's so special about this planner?  It has a Monthly, weekly AND daily spread in it.  Something you dont find in any other planner.  It's very handy because you can use it so many ways.

I'll just show you some of the ways I''ve enjoyed it & made it work for me lately.

The Monthly spread is nice that it comes with a habit tracker on the top of each month. Yes, its only 4 lines, but its the important things you can use it for.

I used my Plum Paper monthly sticker subscription & used their monthly design stickers in this planner & it works just fine.

The weekly sections look like this.... & I'm showing you a blank one because I've actually used it for multiple things - most of it personal.  With nothing changed in it, I've used it for daily journaling - sort of a brain dump.  I have really enjoyed that.  Making this a good journal on top of a planner.

Amplify Planner offers a ton of free printables that you can put in here too.  One of the new ones they have offered is a vertical lay out you can print on sticker paper or just glue stick down.  I tried it & it was OK.

I really am interested still in the Passion Planner for next year & have used their free printables to add in to try out as well.  (this is one of my first weeks & I didnt take it to the fullest with stickers & pretty lettering - I'm feeling it a little bit more now)

But really, that's the fun part of this book - you can change it up each & every week to fit your mood, your schedule, trying new things, going simple or fancy - however you want.

Then there's a blank page before the daily pages & I've used it for multiple things - again, a lot of it really personable with phone numbers & spending & health things... so I wont share that... but here's a blank one I created before I wrote anything in.  I used this week for a food tracker on the left & on the right is the work outs I did for that day, including steps, heart rate, some of the info I care most about.

But the main part... the best part... using the daily spreads.

Hang on because I'm getting ready to share a lot of pics. Obviously, not all of them because that would be over 46 pics so far.... but you get to do a spread every single day.  Talk about a new beginning each day.  I've had some days that I feel like the spreads & stickers & designs just make my day so much brighter... let me show you some of mine.

This was a weekend that I didnt really get to fill it in because I was busy.  But I still love that its pretty with the stickers & just that enough reminds me what happened that weekend.

This is one of my favorite with that plaid on one page & that globe on the next.
& I love putting the scripture verse of the day from the Bible app in the planner.

Celebrated my mom's birthday with doing a blue birthday spread on her day....

& just some other Misc. days... all different... all so enjoyable to create

Halloween!!!! With my wolf looking puppy....

I use quotes some days instead of scripture....

& I used the side boxes for various things.  I tend to always use 2 of them for weather and gratitude.  The other 2, I would change on different days.  I've  used it for a 21 Day Fix tracker... I've used it for highlights of the day... I've used it for trying to say one good things about myself in a day (I'm the queen of negative self talk & really am trying to break that) ... & I really have enjoyed using a box for the day's NEWS... it'll be interesting to look back on that one over the years.

This one was the day after the election & I made sure to use stickers that were assuring to me that God is in control.  I appreciated this spread. "Today I chose JOY"

Of course, on Election day - I had to make it appropriate with red, white & blue colors!

As you can see, every day is different - I dont think I have any 2 days that are the same... which  makes it really fun.

I do put the same 4 things at the top as Daily Habits .... 1. Bible Study  2. Blogs (reading & writing) 3. Cleaning (which obviously isnt checked off every day - sue me) & 4. Plan for tomorrow.

It's been a good way to settle my mind at the end of every night by making my planner page for the next day. It only takes about 10  minutes to just grab a sticker book, some mildliners & transfer anything that wasn't complete the in the day to the next.

So.... the true question.... Am I going to continue in this planner?

That's a tricky question....
I have bought the Q1 planner for 2021.  I do like the quality of it - I love the paper.  I dont have anything that has really bled through - pens & markers.  It's really nice.  I bought one fully prepared to do 2021 in this planner.

I enjoy the blank pages in the back of the planner too for notes or thoughts - I've used it for my health tracker that I created & print out each month.

I'm surprised how much I've enjoyed usng it for work. I've never used a planner for work directly  before, but it really has kept me on task when I have 5 things come in at once & then 5 more come & the 3 of the first things are still having me wait on responses.  I can keep up with things that need to be done so much easier.  This planner has totally convinced me I need a work planner.

BUT.... the ONLY thing I dont like about this planner.
It's quarterly.

They do sell a little calendar you can put in the pocket in the back that has all 12 months, solely to just write down anything to put in your next Quarterly planner.

....but.....

I think I want a planner where I have it all together.  My books I've read in the year... the days I've taken off work... the birthdays or events in the next quarter that aren't in the current planner.... my budget tracker in one place & not scattered over 4 where I would go back & forth to flip & see what I spent a few months past.

I'm currently adding in Passion Planner inserts in this planner & trying that for the rest of the year.  I'm thinking I'm going to use that for my main planner & have a little mini Happy Planner to keep at work to keep track of work things now that I see the benefit of work planners.  Plus, I dont really care to have work things in my personal planner to look back on.  Who cares how many closings I had in October 2020 if I look back at my planner 5 years down the road. Ya know?
& of course, my faith planner... which actually has become a faith bullet journal.  I'll have to talk about that next month.

That's where I stand right now anyways - my 2021 outlook is a Passion Planner, Mini Happy Planner & Faith Bullet Journal.

... & we know ALL of that could change by January 1, 2021.

So what do you think?

Like the idea of Amplify Planner?

Have any questions for me on it - please ask!!!
