Thankful Thursday #348

Easy Pizza Nights
I just really love some days when we do an easy "pop in the oven" pizza nights so I can just relax & not stress over dinner.  Why does eating after work feel like such a job?

Birthday Cupcakes
We had 2 coworkers birthdays so our manager had stopped & picked up some cupcakes at a bakery. My GOODNESS - they were HUGE. I didnt even take a pic - too busy thinking about digging in.  They were delicious.  Plus it was just fun sitting & chatting with the work gang for a bit.

Reading Weather
We got a little glimpse of Spring this past week... never mind we're getting SNOW tomorrow into the weekend (GAHHHH!) But I went home a few evenings & sat outside in my outside reading spot & enjoyed the fresh air & the lighter skies. All that it takes to make me happy.

This is what I get trying to read - a Ball thrown by my legs & a face trying to guilt me into throwing it

Grands on wheels
We got a video of our youngest grandkiddos going to the skating rink for the first time.  Alaina knew & loved our friend that recently passed away & with him running the skating rink, she thought it would be a great tribute to Tony.  She lives in Florida now so she wasnt able to go to the funeral.  Alaina is a Vincent so she was up on wheels young & early & she's got her daddy's legs & is great on skates.  I'm glad she still has it... but even more fun to see those two little dudes up on wheels. One preferred it more than the other - but I told her to keep those wheels on those little feet - they'll get it soon enough. Plus, its a good excuse for her to skate too.

Black LuLaRoe Leggings
Sorry - I just love my black leggings & they truly are unicorns.

Walks
Yep - again, the weather had me at the park & I love it. Just breathing in fresh air - seeing other people walking out & about - & most of them have their dogs. I just am so anxious for Spring to get here & stick with us!

Speak your mind
One thing I have learned through the years of getting older is to know when to keep my mouth shut, when to just let things go... but also, to know when to SPEAK UP.  There's so much crazy in the world & I have learned more than ever the past 2 years, people are set in their ways & there is a refusal to listen to anything other than what they believe.  There is no need to learn when you think you have all the answers - right? Geez.  But in moments where I whole heartedly know someone is NOT understanding or knowing of the truth - I am not afraid to speak up - I am NOT afraid to give facts - even if they are not heard. I WILL still speak the truth even if you dont want to hear it - knowing that maybe, somewhere, sometime, it seeps in. Plant those seeds where you can.  I am thankful I have the courage to speak up when needed.

Tell me something good about your week

Show Us Your Books - February 2022 Reads

Three Wishes
**** / Really Liked It

Quick Summary:  The story of 3 sisters - triplets - leading up to their 33rd birthday & how different they each are & their lives but how no matter what, they are family.

I love Liane Moriarty & I havent read anything of hers in a while.  I know this one is older - much older - but I'm glad I got around to it. It was fun & sad all in one. Made me laugh & made me feel emotional.  The things a book should do.

I always say I'm so jealous of people with sisters & this book just reinforced my love of sister relationships.

I enjoyed how different each of the triplets are & personalities shining through. & I was hooked in each of their life stories & was cheering them all on.  This was a typical Moriarty book with multiple stories going on & entwining them all in a bigger story - she's good at doing that.

Trigger notes: this deals with infertility, miscarriage, infidelity

“Apparently, the moment your ovaries noticed you were worried about becoming pregnant, they refused to cooperate. Oh well, if you’re going to get all huffy about it, we’ll just close down.”

Always in December
**** / Really Liked It

Quick Summary:  Josie has a literal run in with Max right at Christmas & instead of each spending the holiday alone, they stick together & learn about each other. When he suddenly disappears, they spend the next year crossing paths & constantly drawn to each other.

I saw a lot of people read this at the Holidays & while it does evolve around Christmas - its not really a Christmas read - so I'm glad I went ahead & read it even though its over a month past the Holidays.  I can thank the wait list at the library for that one.

I'm coming out of this book frustrated & sad... but I still give it 4 stars - because I did feel all the emotions of the book.  It left me swooning, aggravated, smiling & then near tears & then a good ole punch in the gut.  Yep, check all the emotions.

I will say, some of the chapters very extra long for no reason. I dont like books that go into long details about things that ultimately dont lend to the story.  The stranger next to you - I dont care about his life story one bit.  I actually learned where these nonsense waste of time paragraphs were & I just skimmed though - no loss on my part.

“Because as much as you said that I made your life brighter, you were the light in mine when you were there, and so many times when you weren’t.”

Sometimes I Lie
**** / Really Liked It

Quick Summary:  Amber wake up in a hospital & cant move or speak & cant open her eyes. She is trying to remember what happened to her & alternates between her paralyzed present & the week before the accident & a series of childhood events & diary entries.

Two words. CREEPY & FREAKY! I enjoyed this author's book Rock, Paper, Scissors so I wanted to read this one - people have recommended it to me. I tried another one of her books (I Know Who You Are) & I was NOT a fan of that one - at all.

This one was better than that - but not as good as Rock, Paper, Scissors.

It has the same creepiness to it that this author uses & it honestly left me GASPING at parts.  So many twists & turns, I think my neck hurt from the ride.

I almost gave this 3 stars just because admittingly, there were some parts that felt a little dumb - or too much - some characters that just seemed to not really make much sense - and ESPECIALLY, one part that left me totally grossed out & I cant believe there wasn't some sort of trigger warning. ... shutter... I am still gagging thinking about it....

But, the book kept me hanging in there & I couldnt wait to see where it led me so that's why I gave it 4 stars.  In the end, I had to just stop & take a breath & think, What did I just go through? It's a crazy & disturbing ride. Dont take it lightly.

Trigger warnings - sexual assault

“Sometimes I think it's best to say nothing at all, silence cannot be misquoted.”

Royal Valentine
**** / Really Liked It

Quick Summary:  Molly works in a museum & meets a man at an event & hits it off with him. When he disappears, she's heart broken - only to run into him & discover that he's a Lord & will one day be an Earl.  Can "Al" win back Molly's trust to give her a happily ever after?

I thought this was super cute.  I didnt realize it was a novella - but it moves VERY fast & when I looked & saw I was half way through the book (on Kindle) I was like, Ohhh - ok. You can read this in a day.  The story is like its on speed - so be prepared for that.

& its just Hallmark sappy fun romance all over it.  Perfect for valentine's Day reading.

Plus, there's Beauty & the Beast references throughout so you know this book had me right there.

The Stranger in the Lifeboat
***** / It was Amazing

Quick Summary:  A yacht explodes & some survivors get in a raft fighting for survival in the middle of the ocean. A stranger is pulled out of the water & in the boat & says "I am the Lord" & he will save them if they believe he is.  All of this is documented by someone in the raft & when the raft is found with the diary intact, the detective reading it has his own life changed.

I just loved this book!  Just LOVED it!

My brother got this for me for Christmas & I didnt even know Mitch Albom had another book out. I love all his previous books. He writes with such a fantasty style but also grounds it in truth & faith - such a weird combo - but I love it.

This has a mix of mystery & heartbreak & hope all mixed together.  I wrote down so many quotes from this book & it got me thinking on a lot of things.

There's a lot of characters in the story & I was doing my notebook thing to keep everyone straight but in the end, it comes down to just a few key players.

Just so good. It will really be hard for another book to beat this one for my favorite of the year.

“I know the tears you shed, Benjamin. When people leave this Earth, their loved ones always weep.” She smiled. “But I promise you, those who leave do not.”

Thankful Thursday #347

Honestly, this has just been a blah week for me.  I've been so busy & just have had some really bad headaches & just not feeling on top of my game so I really haven't filled in all my lines in my gratitude journal this week. Just one of those things.

So this week is pretty simple....

Weekend
After a forever long & struggle week, I had never looked more forward to a weekend in a long time. I came home Friday evening & had picked up dinner & ate & was like, OK - I'm going to bed.. .like by 6pm. I didnt go to sleep, but I did just relax all night long & I enjoyed a relaxing weekend.  They are needed.

Funeral Message
We had our friend's funeral this past week & I have to say, the pastor that did it, I need that message - it should be one that is preached at every funeral. It was just so touching & inspiring & just comforting.  Hubby & I talked about it all night long too - it stuck with us.

Seeing old friends
If there has to be any good come out of a funeral, its seeing old friends you havent seen in awhile.  There was one young lady who we have known since she was a young teen & she's now a mom & has an incredible career in the medical field - but when I saw her, I just hugged her so hard & told her I cant believe she's a grown up. LOL We got to see a few friends we havent seen in the longest & its just good to catch up.

Warmer temps
We had one more cold day last weekend but ever since, the temps have gone up & up.  I dont expect it to last all the way through Spring, but I'm enjoying every day in the 50's, 60's - heck, yesterday was in the 70's!!! With these temps & more light- our dogs are having the best time too - more play time!!!

Prime Purchases

Joining in with Tanya for another month of all the fun buys

Click the pic for the link if you want to check out the purchase yourself

Label Tape

I had been wanting to get a label maker when I found one my parents got me for Christmas like 20 years ago. Good ole Amazon to the rescue for tape that goes in it - we've been on a label making roll since we've got these.  We've been using it to label charger cords!

Laptop Bag

Want to keep my new laptop all nice & clean & safe & protected.
But I didnt want a huge bag - all I had around my house.
This thing is fantastic - its so lightweight - & THIN!
But it has the padding in it to protect my computer. - super happy with this purchase.

Pill Organizer

In the ever going saga of "I'm getting old" - I now need a pill case with all the new meds I'm on since my TIA.  & yes, I have morning meds & night meds now (GAH - I hate this so much)
But I am THE WORSTTTTTTT at taking medicine. i can't ever remember it & I have reminders on my phone & on Alexa to keep me on the know.  This helps too when I see the meds in the container for each day. & I've learned to grab the day & just toss in my purse on days I'm not sure I'll be home for the nighttime meds. This has been the best organizer I've used.

Motion Sensor Flood Light

We have this in our enclosed porch & it is FANTASTIC - so bright.
When the dogs go running out in the room, it clicks on & when I have to carry Zoe out, it comes on - it lights up the entire room! We had one previous that lasted for yearsssss & when it finally bonked out- I instantly bought this one - its one of those things we have to have in our lives now.

Pooper Scooper

We have 4 dogs... enough said.

We had a scooper that was amazing - its so hard to find one like it.
I dont really care this folds because it has a wiggle sort of feel in it where the bend in the frame is - but it still gets the job done.

Dot Pens

Why have I not gotten these sooner?
If you have a To-Do list & like to mark things off - you need these.
That rounded top makes it a perfect little dot to fill in a check off spot
& that fine tip pen, its a thin writing tool too.
I carry these with me every day with my planner.

Phone Case

You may have seen this in the past.
Yep - I have used this for my phone since I got a new one last year...
Soooooooo..... when I dropped my phone in the toilet, I never moved so fast to get my phone out.  This just proves if there is an emergency, you want me with you - I give no thoughts on how to act.
My phone is just a year old & I wasn't about to dish out another $700 for a phone - it was a no brainer decision for me to move that fast.
Luckily, my phone survived but I got it out of the case immediately & tossed that baby in the trash.
These are the moments when I'm thankful Amazon has Prime & I had my phone back in a new case by the time I went back to work on Monday.
Real life y'all - real life.

Thankful Thursday #346

This week I am Thankful for:

Telehealth appointments
I had a follow up call with my general physician & man, do I LOVE being able to do them on Zoom. No having to schedule time off work, no sitting in a waiting room. You get a text giving the link to the meeting & BAM - there she is. She has all the records right in front of her on her computer & we get to chat & go over everything & schedule the next follow up in a month - easy peasy. This is the future I envisioned as a child.

No Sleep Apnea
On the talk with my doctor, she let me know the results of my sleep study & ALL CLEAR. I didnt expect to have any thing show up - but its always a relief to get that confirmation.

Cochese new coat
I got Cochese a new coat since he's getting older & he's just not growing his winter hair like he did when he was younger.  Dad always had a hard time finding one that fit him well - we got the length, but there's something about his build that just doesnt fit the coats right. I ended up finding one on Chewy's & it does really well!!!  My brother got it on him & he didnt mind it one bit. When he would feed Cochese, he'd put his hand under to check him & he said he was toasty warm! I said I need to stock up on these now we found one that works for him.  Even horses have different body shapes!

Clear Mammogram
I hold my breath every year when I get my boob squish done & have to wait for the results. I have gotten calls in years past on things found so when I got the mail & saw a letter, I was quick to open it & see the good results of this years scan.  Yahooo!!!!

Highlighted
If you follow me on my planner Instagram account, you'll see I've been using the Amplify Planner for 2022 (loving it so much) but they sent out their monthly newsletter & highlighted my account in it! It was so funny because I was reading it & was like, wait - that looks familiar - it was my name & one of my IG pics - LOL! What a fun surprise!

Friends
My mom lost her heat Friday night & I am useless in such things. My brother was at work - so one of his friends ended up going to mom's house to help her figure out the problem. Just thankful for people that help us out when they can - step in to fill the gap.  My brother has a good group of men as friends that are just so helpful to our whole family.

Glimpses of Spring
We had another warmer day over the weekend & I took advantage of it by going for a good hour long walk at the park. Along with half the town & their dogs. I loved seeing so many people out with their pets. I need to take one of my dogs with me. I always feel bad just taking one & no way I can get a good walk on with 3 dogs dragging me around.  But man, I soaked up the beautiful sunshine... come on SPRING!

Cup Holder
I think I mentioned last week or the week before how I got this amazing 40 oz cup. I am obsessed with it. It has me drinking all the water! Keeps ice in it all day - its easy to hold with the handle. I love it!  But I was having issues with it in my car. If it was full, it would stay up in my cup holder... if it was half empty, when I would take turns, it would fall.  I found this cup holder on Amazon & it is PERFECT! It holds my cup securely - full or empty -& I love it has a slot for a handle too so I can put mugs in it as well.  (HERES the link if interested)
