Sweetness potential, New Years Eve time & we Believed {Thankful Thursday #162}

Image result for thankful thursday knit by god's hand

This week I am Thankful For:
{numbers go with my 1000 gifts journal - just ignore}

88 / Coworker lunch.
I love my coworker walked in on Monday & as she walked past me said, "I need to talk - lets do lunch"... I love she needed someone to vent to & wanted me to be the ears that listened.  Plus, we had a really good lunch together.  I really am enjoying getting to know all my new friends at work.

Black bean veggie burger for lunch

89 / Ricky found a dentist.
Y'all know we've had some dentists in our day that have NOT been the best or have led us on a wild good chase with treatment.  Well, with Ricky's tooth breaking last weekend, we are trying a new dentist that a lot of people have recommended. He goes to our church & I've not heard one bad thing about him... & Ricky really liked him. Could it be? Finally? A good dentist?  Halleluia

94 / Work Hand sanitizer.
I so love that work sent out an email about the flu & the statistics on it - they ordered new soaps for the bathrooms & passed out individual hand sanitizers for everyone to take.  THIS is my kinda work place.

95 / Meeting changed.
I had to leave work early on Friday for Believe & we had a Finance meeting where ALL of our branches would be linked in together.  It was going to be right when I needed to leave & I hated the idea that I was going to have to get up in the middle of this & go.... but then it got rescheduled for another day - YAHOOOOOOO!!!! Whew! I dont have to be the new person who walks out of big meetings.

98 / Tired Ernie
Ernie is just a little tyrant lately.  I have to get him into some sort of training class because he's just not listening to me. He will listen to Ricky but Ricky is hardly around.  He leaves for work before I wake up at 5:30am & when he gets home, he's in bed usually around 7:30 or 8 so I have Ernie all night to myself... I have to get him to listen to me. Anyways - good things here - when he's tired, he's being really sweet - which he wasn't doing that when we first got him.  But he's sweet with Harvey & even came over & laid his head on my leg.  This is NOT Ernie behavior - so I'm thankful of glimpses that he could be a good dog - SOMEDAY.

99 / Off early.
Like I said, I had to leave work early on Friday. The cool thing? I didnt have to take any of my personal time. The firm closed early on New Years Eve but the Finance department had to stay in case of any late deposits for year end.... so we were able to take that time everyone else got off & save it to use in January. & I know, Friday was actually February 2, but my manager is amazing & so thoughtful. She told me I could save it for Believe.  It worked out wonderfully

101 / Great Small Group
Our small group time was fantastic. I was worried it could be a little chaotic with so many people but these girls really are maturing so nicely & beautifully.

102 / Bed early at Believe
If you call the girls getting in bed at 1am early - I do - last year, it was a struggle to get them to stop talking. We had like 43 people in our room - NO JOKE - try & get 43 middle school girls from stopping giggling with that many people.  YIKES... but this year, I told them twice to keep it down & by 1am - it was crickets. I couldnt believe it. So much that I couldnt sleep haha - it was too quiet. I didnt fall asleep until 2:30am - & the girls literally were out. No shenanigans - they really were in bed that easily.  Kudos to them

103 / C-ALERT
So if you've been around here for awhile, you KNOW what food I detest... the breakfast food - & guess what they had out for breakfast on Saturday for Believe. Yep... all kinds of choices. All the lady leaders were like, STAY OUT - they brought me breakfast (Panera) to my room so I didnt have to go in. there.... & the cutest thing of all - so many of my MSM girls were like, "Rebecca - stay away from there - you cant handle it"... & they all stayed out in the hall way with me to hear the announcements for the day & then they all went around the back way so I didnt have to walk through the C-infested room. How cute are my girls?

108 / BELIEVE
I actually have so many break downs of things I'm grateful for at Believe - but I'll just sum it up with that. It was an amazing weekend with the girls - a fantastic message - great people to serve with - kids deciding to follow Jesus - it just doesnt get any better than weekends like that.

109 / Ernie OK
So while I was gone, I found out Ernie had some deodorant. Greaaaaat.  Ricky tends to forget its like watching a baby - eyes on them at all time. Ricky said he was acting funny for awhile... but he just seemed to snap out of it & was ok. Geez.

111 / Home
It was heaven on Sunday to just stay at home in sweats & with my own coffee & finishing a book.  They dont have MSM the day after Believe - & my sweet precious Joysters went ahead & pushed back our meet up for another week ... Sunday was just wonderful relaxing, reflecting & recharging.

So what good things happened in your world this week?

I like to move it, move it....{Wellness Wednesday}

We're back to another month of Wellness Wednesday.

I loved last month & reading other's goals for the year ... & looking forward to seeing what this month's topic brings.

Favorite Cardio or Exercise & any tips

I am a cardio girl.  Seriously - I've talked about this here before with my issues of struggle with other exercises that focus solely on weight lifting or 'calmer' exercises like yoga or Pilates.  - which, before I upset all the calm yogi's in the world, I KNOW it sculpts a body& does amazing things for flexibility, but if I dont get my heart rate up to a high number & keep it there for a minimum of 30 minutes, I feel like its a useless workout.

I always say I blame my upbringing of Richard Simmons on  his daily TV show (Anyone else remember that? - I'd totally do it in my basement with him) & because of the Jane Fonda era - leg warmers & all.

Proof this existed....

But I really do feel like, for MY body, I'm all about needing a fast pulse to get any results.

Saying that, I've never really lost any weight running. Ironic, huh?

Image result for hmm gif

The only thing I've ever really lost weight doing is the 21 Day Fix or back in the day, Jazzercise.

Now, those are a combo of cardio and weight lifting/toning.

I guess that's my jam.  My sweet spot.  The thing that gets real results.

Because like I said, I usually would GAIN weight training for races.... & I did the Hammer & Chisel program for 3 months & ended up with zero weight loss on that too. Granted, I did tone up, & I get muscle weights blah blah blah.... but I didnt feel any leaner.

I actually really miss my Jazzercise class & if there was one near me, I'd totally be back.  The one I used to go to shut down & moved - it would take me nearly 30 minutes to get to a class now one way... & the time the class is isn't convenient for my schedule... so alas... no Jazzercise.

Image result for work out gain weight meme
Same goes with cooking healthy dinners & Pinterest

& now, I'm frustrated that Beachbody is doing everything streaming anymore.  I used to love to buy some of their work out sets but now, they really push that yearly subscription & dont sell the new plans on DVD - they want you to stream. I dont have a TV in my work out area where I can stream - & I'm not about to work out looking at small computer monitor or tablet. I've got 46 year old eyes - I dont want to work out with my glasses on.

My ultimate favorite exercise though is kickboxing. I guess it taps into my days of Kung-Fu where I grew up every Wednesday taking classes.  & yeah, if you didnt know that fun fact, I got my black belt at 16 years old.  Those moves just come natural to me - to kick & punch.  It's like those kids that are raised to play any sport young - it becomes just natural moves to them. That's how kick boxing is to me.

It's also a good cardio work out & toning for those kicks & punches.

Beachbody had a program called Les Mills Combat that is my all time favorite.  I think they quit dealing with that though - Beachbody, what are you doing to me lately?

But, truth be told - I did that whole 2 month program & never lost any weight either.... sigh....

Image result for les mills combat
I in fact did NOT get lean & shredded... but I had fun

& obviously, I do have a love/hate relationship with running - doing 8 (or 9? I forget) half marathons... I have discovered I enjoy the solitude of being on the road. It's mind clearing to me. I've also learned I'm not into races - the pressure of time & judged by others.... I'm actually going to do a post coming up soon on what happened to me a few weeks ago & why I'm really frustrated with running right now after being 'time shamed'... it's a thing - trust me.

So I guess what it all comes down to - just do what makes you happy.  There is something for everyone. It's just moving your body - staying active - not letting time walk all over you while you're still.  You gotta fight to keep a body in shape - & being in shape doesn't mean it has to LOOK a certain way.  It's about FEELING good - its about not being breathless doing normal chores - its about being able to walk up steps with laundry baskets or run down the drive way to get your mail - or lifting groceries or carrying out dogs in the middle of the night to go potty.  All the every day living things.

Image result for exercise just move

So find what works for you... do it a few times a week.... be kind to your body.... keep moving!!!
Know that it can change all the time too.  What you love today, you may hate in a few months... & then love it again in a few years.

Just be open to what your body is asking you to do.

UPDATE TIME... so my goal this year is dealing with Weight Watchers.
How is that going for me?

Well... OK, I guess. I'm down like 6 lbs (blah - I can gain that overnight so I dont feel like its a big deal) I'm struggling in the sense that I'm feeling a little lost with the program.  I guess that's why they want you to come to meetings & not do it solely online - which I'm not paying & driving to go to meetings.

The points they give you aren't a lot for a day.- & I am glad you do get the extra points for the week - but I'm finding its about incorporating those free points.  I just have some struggle with that I guess. Basically veggies, fruit, eggs & beans - all free foods.  All good for dinner (my lentil soup I post on IG a lot - zero points) - its the snacks & eating out that's tough for me.

Image result for diet funny eat a lot at night

I need lunch ideas. I need things to take to work.  I need to get snack & dessert ideas that aren't many points - that aren't SUGAR FREE. They really promote sugar-free items to save points - & I'm not about to load my body up with artificial sweeteners.

Everyone talks about a dessert you make with Greek yogurt & sugar free pudding. & I got the pudding & then seen it was made with aspartame. OH HECK NO - I truly believe that stuff is the stuff of the devil.  I threw it away. I dont care if its zero points. My long term health is much more important than my scale number next week.

Image result for aspartame meme

So - I'm still trying to learn about it....

& basically, its like my friend Nathalie told me - sounds like if I ate basically a good vegan/vegetarian diet, I'd be doing the points right... which is basically not even needing Weight Watchers.  hmmm... I'm already signed up for another month anyways so we'll see if anything amazing kicks in for me...

This turned really long today... sorry... kinda ... not really - I can talk about this stuff all day long.

Anyways - here's to another month... & I'm still PRESSING ON!!!

All about Love....

Joining in with the awesome ladies at The Blended Blog for a Valentine's Edition
... feel free to join in for the fun!

1. Kisses or hugs?
I've always been a big 'hug' person.  I'll give perfect strangers a hug. But of course, kisses are reserved for the ones you love the most. The hubs, my parents on cheeks & of course, my dogs - all over their sweet faces. Ahhh

2. Candy or flowers?
I feel like flowers are pretty & enjoyable & something you dont buy yourself often... but candy, you enjoy a lot more.  My scale doesn't enjoy it though. I'll go with flowers on this for sake of health.

3. Baking or cooking?
I have been enjoying cooking lately. & its not so much that I'm better at it - I'm equally as good in both just because I dont know what I'm doing & follow the directions. I know there's some naturals out there that can whip things up on their own.... this question is more for those people.  Me? Give me step by step ways to do it & I'm good with either.

4. Do you remember your first kiss?
Yep. All I'll say about that ... a girl doesnt kiss & tell, right?
actually, I cant even remember the guys name. haha...  I can remember the dumb details about it - like what I was wearing, where I was at, running & telling my girlfriends -  but not his name. These things happen when you get on the back side of 40

5. Favorite color of roses?
I always have loved white roses.... but its hard to find because you cant have white roses with the dead ends on them - they are so visible on a white rose.  & they are just hard to find in general. It always drives Ricky nuts because he tries to get me white roses for special occasions & will come home with another color & say, "I tried man, I tried"

Image result for white roses meaning

6. Conversation hearts - yes or no?
I like their taste... their hardness scares me with my janky & very breakable teeth

7. Do you leave love notes?
All the time - everywhere & for every one. I'm the person who leaves notes on mirrors in random places for people to see & take with them.

8. Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?
Not typically.... BUTTTTTTTTT - our tree is still up - in February.  I told Ricky I was going to do it.  He's like a whipped dog or something - he just said, "Go ahead"... I guess there are no future plans to take our tree down. I might as well go ahead & decorate it for Christmas so I'm ahead of the game.

Image result for valentine's tree
this could actually happen

9. Red or Pink?
I used to hate pink. Loathe it. I really like it now.  But I feel like red looks better on me for some reason.  Ricky reminds me all the time red doesnt look good on redheads - I disagree though.

10. Milk, White or Dark Chocolate?
Who am I to deny any chocolate? But I do love me some dark chocolate probably a smidge better.

11. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Not really. Lust at first sight?  Sure.... Can it happen, sure - but I think the odds are reallllllly slim.

12. Do you give Humorous or Serious Valentine's Cards?
I tend to rarely, RAREEEELY ever give a serious card for any event... unless its something tragic or sympathetic.  I'm the person who loves to go to the funny card area in a store & read every one of them & laugh so loudly, Ricky has to walk away of embarrassment.

13. Favorite Chick Flick or Romantic Movie?
Y'all know I have to go with Beauty & the Beast - obvs...

but going outside the obvious... I'll go with Sweet Home Alabama... Reese Witherspoon is so dang cute in this. I think I can watch it every time its on.

Image result for sweet home alabama

14. Stay in or Go Out?
Used to be Go Out... the older I get, I'm all for the Stay in  & be comfy version of life.
I will say, on Valentine's Day - if it falls on a weekend, we will go out... for breakfast. Just to beat the crowds & enjoy the holiday in our own unique way.  I mean, who doesnt love an excuse for a good breakfast?

How about you?

The weekend we BELIEVED....

Wow... another year of Believe in the books.

I have honestly lost count on how many I have been to over the years.

I bought a sweatshirt that said BELIEVE - Est 1997.  Well, I was at Believe 1997 so there you go... I know I've been to other youth conferences before - I guess those weren't called Believe... see how I've lost count?  All of that to say, I've been doing this for a LONG TIME.

It really freaks me out because I was thinking of that.... even if we just go back to the beginning of this.  Those kids were anywhere from 11 to 14.... they are now 21 to 24.... OH MY GOSH. Adults themselves.

... & I'm still jamming it up with middle school kids at these things. What is wrong with me? ;) haha

More importantly - where does the time go?

Friday kicked off with me running late. Dang it.

I got off work early but still had to run home & wasn't packed. That was my downfall.

But I still got there right before the kids did - whew!

It was funny because my group was originallly supposed to have 18 kiddos - but after more girls from my night time bible study got there & found out they were in another group - they asked if they could be switched... I ended up with 21 girls... That's some "small group"

But honestly - these girls are so great... we really did have an amazing small group time.  Some great discussions - some big emotions - some amazing talks. & they are all respectful of one another - listening to each other & not talking over each other... they are the best. Truly the best kids ever!

This years theme was WITH.... & the phrase we kept repeating was God's Will IS WITH....

& we had some great lessons on how we need to remember how God is so near... how we dont have to work towards to earn that relationship with God - He is pursuing US... we need to just remember that & know that not only that He is WITH us - He is WITHIN us... He gave us the Holy Spirit as a reminder that He is always near. Never leaving us.

So many great examples....

There was a great story the speaker gave where he parachuted out... they gave him the lesson on what to do & showed him where the cord was to pull - YOU CANT MISS IT - it was pink with a golf ball on it - right on the chest - YOU CANT MISS IT.... except when he jumped, he panicked & he couldnt find it. Totally convinced he was going to die.  & then the hand came around him to pull the cord for him.  He was so lost in the panic, he forgot he was in a tandem unit & there was someone on his back who was in control.  There was someone in charge - someone who was going to make sure he was safe in this. ... such a good visual story.

Believe is so great at making these weekends come to life

I loved it too because SO MANY TIMES.... they referenced that God being with us because He created us - KNIT US!  He was the one who KNITTED US IN THE WOMB... I felt like standing up every time they said it & being like REPRESENT!!!!

Image result for represent gif

A few of the other leaders even told me every time the speakers said that, they thought of me....I should have lifted my knitting high when they said it every time... y'all know I had my knitting with me (but I actually had no time to knit but a few stitches the entire time - too busy having fun with my girls)

& the worship is always amazing.... these kids FEEL it... they are so free to worship in a way they dont any other time.

The kids even told me they love going up to the front where everyone crowds & they dont even know the person next to them but they love worshipping with these 'strangers' - just knowing you all have a connection because you're worshiping the same God together.  Such a special feeling.

Of course, I was a little on the freaked out side with all the flu stuff going around & it seeming like the world is sick. I was QUEEN of the hand sanitizer.

& then Saturday morning, one of my girls was like, "go to the bathroom with me - I think I'm going to be sick"... well, indeed she was. She threw up TWICE.  Talk about a panic attack coming in.

I called the nurse & the nurse checked her out & sat with her for the afternoon. She thought it may be some sort of food allergy or anxiety thing because the girl never ran a fever & totally acted fine the rest of the evening - dancing, jumping, eating a salad... but I was freaked out & kept the sanitizer flowing.

& even worse, another leader from another church passed OUT on one of my youth kiddos... spilling his coffee in the meanwhile all over her... AND thank God she was there - he would have hit his head on the hard concrete.

But he was sweating with a fever - told the nurses when they got there that he has the FLU.... OK - let's stop for a second - WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY would you come to a youth conference if you knew you had the flu??????? COME ON PEOPLE... & we wonder why the flu is an epidemic right now? I was so angry about this. Like LIVID about it.

The nurses put a mask on him immediately & they got him out to go to the hospital.

I told my MSM girl to take that shirt off & BURN IT.  We got her another shirt & I about doused her with sanitizer too... UGHHHH - all the sickness.

Pray none of us get sick now after this weekend. (PLEASE SWEET JESUS)

The best part of the weekend was these kids making choices & decisions on becoming Kingdom Workers - what CIY calls it to promote following through weekends like this - decisiosn on what you're going to do NEXT....put your faith into action to change the world.

The challenge was to do this in group of 3's - accountability.... they went to different areas to see where they were going to decide what they were going to do.  They brought their decision back to me & we prayed over the things they wanted to do together.... I LOVED THIS PART OF THE WEEKEND.

We headed back to church to break down the weekends events... & found out 3 people decided to commit their life to Jesus... YAHOOOO!!!!

& about a dozen are rededicating... A successful weekend! GO GOD!!!!!

& then it was time for a Talent Show.  & next thing I know - I have a group of girls running up to me to ask me to dance with them. I thought they were joking. These girls dance. Like seriously dance every weekend in competitions - I told them to just do it on their own & they refused - they said I HAD to do it with them.

& then they showed me a routine... & next thing I know - we're starting the talent show in 15 minutes. Ummm.... what's that routine?  HAHA - they didnt even care. They were like, freestyle the whole time - we dont care - we just want you up there. I LOVE THESE GIRLS.

So I have no problem making a fool out of myself for them.  I just kept telling myself - its all about memories. I want these girls to grow up remembering they had someone who loved them so much, they just wanted to have fun. There's no cares in having a good time together.  I want these girls to always remember our friendships & relationships when they think back on this weekend.

{Here's the full version if you saw it on Facebook}

But let's back up & say, our kids have some AMAZING TALENT! There were some kids ,I sat with my jaw dropped at how amazing they were.  We had one kiddo that has skills with a yo-yo that he SERIOUSLY needs to get on America's Got Talent.  Me? Not so much ;) haha

& then we went into the sanctuary for our CELEBRATION SERVICE.

What a great time to have kids come up & talk about their weekend & what they learned...

& to get to worship one more time together.

Its so hard to put into words weekends like this. They are so individual. God speaks differently for every single person.  But the fun  & relationships that come out of these weekends are just the best part of it all.

Even when you get 3 hours sleep & you eat junk all weekend - & your feet are killing you - & you deal with puking kids - & make a fool out of yourself.... it's all worth it. & you look forward to the next year.

Cold water, warm days, & no coats {Thankful Thursday #161}

Image result for knit by god's hand thankful thursday

This week I am Thankful For:
{numbers go with my Journal - just ignore}

68 / No Coat.
I think one day last week was the first time I didnt have to wear a coat into work. It felt so funny & different.  Granted, I was chilly on that morning walk, but it still felt good to not be constrained.

69 / MSM Meeting.
We played a Taboo-type game before we got down to business & its just fun to hang out with all the other leaders & high school kiddos that help lead as well.

70 / Lunch with coworker.
I've just really hit it off with one of my coworkers & we went down to the Hard Rock for lunch. I was even happier when we prayed before out meal together.

This is a CAULIFLOWER Burger!! Ever heard of that? It was delicious!!!
73 / Diapers
Speaking of my coworker - she brought in some diapers that she didnt need anymore. She had gotten them for her dog when she was in heat, but she just got spayed so she was going to throw them away. It worked out perfectly because we were wanting to try the XL on Bruno - this let us try it before buying.  (Note - the XL did help with his fatty tumor hanging - but he was able to wiggle those loose & they'd fall off of him.  Back to the size L)

74 / Precious text.
I got the sweetest text from one of my MSM girls telling me about a conversation that my girls had at lunch & how grateful they were for me as their "CM" (Church Mom).. I honestly got choked up. These girls... have I mentioned how amazing they are?  Probably 3 dozen times, I know. I'll keep saying it.

78 / My Artic Cup.
My work buddy from my last job got me this when I left - & man, this is the best cup. I have my Yeti that I got at work for my coffee - & boy it keeps things hot - but I love this cup because I can put ice in it & water & at the end of the day, there's STILL ice in it. I dont mind drinking water at all when its so cold & this is doing the job of keeping me up in my water intake!

79 / Bank walks.
While its been so nice, my coworker has had me walk with her to the bank in the afternoon.  It's been so nice to get out & breath fresh air in the late afternoon.

81 / First Readathon
I had never done it before but I am so hooked. Clear out the schedule to do nothing but read. I so enjoyed focusing on books & finding other reading IG accounts & Twitter accounts.  It was just the best experience for something I had no idea existed as of last week.

86 / Ricky & horses
Ricky has been wanting to help out my dad with his horses since my dad hurt his knee - but my brother is amazing & has taken on the job.  Well, this past weekend, my brother had his daughters basketball games where it was going to cut into his sleep - so Ricky got to help. & then the poor guy broke a tooth .... & then had something painful happen to his hip.  But he was NOT about to miss the chance to help out.  Love his heart in serving others.
