Show Us Your Books {December 2020}

 

Not doing good in the reading department again.

I really think I need to find a good reading space. I do my best reading outside because of natural light. I need a natural light lamp... with a good comfy chair & I think my mojo will kick in fully for winter.

.... going to Amazon right now & asking Santa for one...

DNF

Quick Summary:  2 people notice their community is changing all around them & who is buying up property so they investigate to see what's happening.

I could be totally wrong on the summary.... I only got about 30% in & couldnt finish.
I know so many of you told me to hang in there. I think someone even told me, once you get to the 60-70% mark, it gets really good.  UGH - that sounds like torture to me. I think if I got that far & even if it did get good, I'd be bitter about it so I wouldn't be able to even enjoy it.

Why didnt I enjoy it? I just thought the story wasn't going anywhere.  & I was getting confused ... all in the first 30%.  I have my rule I talk about all the time - 25% & I'm not into it, I give up.  I gave this a little bit longer... nope.  Maybe I'll try again later.  Just wasn't for me right now.

Quick Summary:  A Pride & Prejudice take that involves Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy - but this one centering around dogs & dog shows.

I mean, if you love Pride & Prejudice fun retellings - & this one involves dogs, then you'll enjoy this.

I read a Teri Wilson book last month (may have been the month before - who knows what time is in 2020) & I just really enjoyed this author. Just a good light, fun read that gives you the Hallmark channel feels.  She just released a Christmas book that I'm interested in checking out too.

Currently Reading

I'm waiting for my Book of the Month copy of Holidaze to arrive so I can get into a Holiday book before Christmas... come on post man!!!

The weekend that feels nothing like a normal December weekend

 I honestly feel like I'm in some weird some of time warp.

I mean, I KNOW its Christmas season. It's everywhere... movies on Netflix.... Christmas specials where everyone is singing carols... I have a tree in the corner of my room that is lit up all the time & packages on my porch that delivery people are dropping off at a rapid pace (God Bless all the delivery people!!!!) .... But it just doesnt feel like Christmas to me. It feels so strange.  I guess because here we are, fully into December & another weekend we really didnt go out Christmas shopping in stores.  Feels so weird.

Saturday, I was up early because The Hubs had to work which means I'm up with him. I dont know why when he works the weekend that I can't sleep in.  I saw him off & then made me a hot cup of coffee & crawled back in bed to catch up watching The Amazing Race.  I had a big furry baby with me that loves when I stay in bed.  Harvey Dent is our snuggly dog.  He would lay ALL DAY LONG in your lap, on you, near you - as long as you have a hand on him, he's a happy boy.

I got up & went over & let mom's cats out for awhile & loved on the horse & cleaned up around the barn for a little bit.  It was freezing cold, but move around for a bit, & it wasn't that cold at all.

I got home & was able to clean the house some. I always do my best cleaning when The Hubs works. Honestly - its weird how it works.  Maybe its the June Cleaver in me that wants him to come home to a clean house on Saturday.  Why I dont care Monday - Friday, I dont know....

I ended up having to run my mom's purse down to the rehab center she's at & picked some lunch up for us on my way home... & saw that Burger King had a sign up for a new cold brew. I figured I would give it a try. I mean, I did a lot before 1pm & this is a TREAT YO SELF season / year ... & it was pretty decent. SUPER sweet. But a yummy treat. Luckily, it had so much ice in it, it didnt have a lot of coffee in it - which was OK because again - SWEETORAMA!

I had some sewing to do because some coworkers of The Hubs asked for some UL masks for gifts.  I hadnt used my sewing machine in a few weeks so I literally had to stop & rethink how to make these. That's bad.

We had a pretty lazy Saturday after that.  We played some Yahtzee, played with the dogs, had some phone calls with the rehab center mom is in, & then watched a Christmas movie together.

The Hubs was tired from working & went to bed pretty early so I just stayed snuggled on the couch since we had a space heater in there making it nice & cozy. & I ended up watching Pride & Prejudice.... again....

Sunday, nothing exciting happened... again....

I watched our church service online & love we're in our Christmas series for the year.  

& then we decided we needed to pick some stuff up at Target.  We wanted to get down there before the crowds kicked in so we went down fairly early - around 10:30am.  It was still fairly crowded but nothing like I saw the parking lot on Saturday when I had to take mom's purse down to her.  Gives me all the anxiety.  I should have done some Christmas shopping while I had the chance, but the toy aisles were really crowded & it gives me anxiety on a good day - but when people are squeezing by each other during a pandemic... nope - I just wanted to grab the things I needed & get out of there.

We picked up some lunch at Q'Doba & got home & Harvey Dent was ready for a afternoon snuggle / nap time.

I turned on Disney+ & ended up watching this....

It was so cute. I did some real big belly laughs on this one & totally surprised at how fun it was. I mean, Steve Carrell & Jennifer Gardner... how could it go wrong?  A great family movie to watch.  

We went back over & took care of mom's cats & the horses & got home in time to settle in for another week.  A week I really gotta start thinking about gifts for people & get to ordering it. I dont think I'll get a lot of them if I dont order soon - I'm hearing shipping is really struggling now.  Heck - I dont even know when I'm going to see people for Christmas anyways.  I dont know how this is going to work this year.... sigh.... what a year, what a year.

Thankful Thursday #289

 

This week I am Thankful for:

Walk at lunch on a stressful day
We had a few sunny days last week & after some crazy work days, I tend to work through lunch, but took some time to get out & soak up the Vitamin D & walk away some of the stress.

Work off early before Thanksgiving
OK... so I ended up getting off just an hour early - but I'll take it. Especially being at home.

Day Off
My last job, I always had to tuck away an extra vacation day to have Black Friday off... & now, I work at a place that has it off every year. I love that so much.

3 year anniversary
Speaking of my job - I had my 3 year anniversary there.  That's gone by fast.  It's nothing compared to my 25 years at my previous job... but I'll get there again.

EMT Workers
I'm still just so thankful at the sweet young lady that was just so kind when I found my mom on the floor. She had just a calming personality in her tone & actions.  She truly is in the right profession for her talents.

Nurses & Doctors
I know these health care workers are just stretched so thin right now - but the nurse & doctors that called to give me updates & follow up on things with my mom, they all were just informative & didnt make me feel rushed.  They all were so helpful.

Christmas everywhere
I'm so excited about our own decorations up & all the lights & beautiful holiday things in our home... but even driving to the store or to my mom's - seeing all the Christmas lights makes me smile. I loathe loathe LOATHE the darkness - especially at 5:30pm....so to have bursts of beautiful light randomly scattered on the road, gives me all the joy.

Prime Purchases {December 2020}

Phone Charger

I ended up getting this on Prime Day because it was super cheap.

It works well & I thought it may have issues since I have a pretty thick leather case on my phone - but it still charges through it.  I think I may save this to take in the office when I go back so I can just lay my phone on it on my desk.

Under Armour Charged Pursuit 2 Running Shoe

I got these on Prime Day for like $39.99 - I have another pair of Under Armour running shoes that I've had for years & I still love them. They're getting beat down hard so I was excited to get these to see how they feel. I'm really liking them. 

Kindle Paper White

Yep - another Prime Day purchase. I dont even need it right now as my old Kindle I've had for over 10 years is STILL going just fine. But I am having some issues with it charging now & it doesnt hold the charge as long as it used to - so I got this for stand by because I'm not sure my other Kindle will make it through the next year. You know you're a reader when you have to have a Kindle on standby.

Solar Lights

The Hubs got these to put in a shed he had built back in our woods.  He wanted to run electricity to it but I just dont like running it that far back in the woods so he got this to get some light in there.  It's actually nicer than we thought & if you look at pics, people use these in areas outdoors that are creative.  Some put them in tents even, or around the house for extra lighting.  We may have to get more. I would really like to get a few of these to put in my dad's barn for the horses too!

Tray

The Hubs loves trays... a weird obsession really.  But he got this so he could put his tablet on it in bed & not have to hold it. I tease him & call him lazy - but it is a handy thing to thing. You can adjust the height of the legs so it works for kids or adults. & I like that you can tilt the tray for a computer - or keep it flat to eat off of.  It folds up too (bottom of the pic) so it can slide under the bed.  It actually is pretty handy.

Full page labels

OK... all my paper product friends will appreciate this - others will be like, that's a waste.

But I create some spreads that I use every month for my planner that I print out & glue in my planner - but this is a big label, so I can just print on this & put in my planner by pulling off the backing.

I also like you can print various things on here & cut them to size... so I can print like 20 small things & cut them out & put in my planner.  They give you a year service to a place that you can design labels too.  I may see if they have fonts & designs for Christmas labels!!!  ... I get it... this is boring to some - but I cant tell you how excited I am about this stuff

Can you believe this is it... just 31 days & we get this year behind us.

Let's start counting down RIGHT NOW!!!!

But here's how my November went... One Sentence a Day....

1 - Sun / Daylight Savings Time & we got the barn winterized for the horses which was perfect timing since it dropped to 28 degrees overnight #FirstTimeTurningOnHeat

2 - Mon / The first day back to work is always the hardest but at least just doing it in my own home takes the sting out a little bit #backatit

3 - Tues / ELECTION DAY!!!! #WhyIsItScary?

4 - Wed / ... & still we dont know who is President #justtoaddtotheanxiety

5 - Thurs / I was so glad The Bachlorette had an episode on a weird night for good distraction from the crazy election world. #GoodforClaire #Daleisahottie

6 - Fri / How has it only been one week since I was on vacation when it feels like its been a month? #timewarp

7 - Sat /  BIDEN IS CONFIRMED AS PRESIDENT!!!!! #gladthatsover #orisit?

8 - Sun / I'll take the rest of November with highs in the 70's please! #lovingit

9 - Mon /  Took a break at work for lunch & went over & spent it with the horses cleaning the barn #thebenefitsofworkingfromhome

10 - Tues / Why am I having issues with reflux & heartburn now when I go to bed? #anothersigngettingold

11 - Wed / I'm excited about my new Disney Christmas jammies I got for myself for Christmas Eve night #yesIbuynewChristmasjammiesjustforme

12 - Thurs / Spent all night putting some of my planner stickers in a sticker book #likea12yearold

13 - Fri / I totally forgot it was Friday the 13th until I was going to bed. #SoMuchForThat

14 - Sat / Binged Dash and Lily all day long #socute

15 - Sun /  Just when I thought I couldnt get any lazier than Saturday, Sunday came. #whatelseistheretodo?

16 - Mon /  Signed back up to LesMills On Demand to get me through the Holidays #workitout

17 - Tues / I have to laugh that I am spending money to get my hair colored when I literally see no one but my husband & mom #doitforme

18 - Wed / Everyone keeps saying my hair looks so long & I didnt really notice it until today when my hair got caught in the back of my pants #Ijustgotittrimmedtoo!

19 - Thurs / BLEH #nauseatedallday

20 - Fri / Why do closings end up coming in at the end of the day on a Friday? #workedanhourlate

21 - Sat / Got up at 7am to go grocery shopping to avoid the crowds #tryingtosteerclearofcrowds

22 - Sun / Decorations for Christmas are up & I am excited to have a little bit of pretty light & joy in some dark evenings #Tistheseason

23 - Mon / Super excited my 2 favorites made it to the top 2 in the Dancing With the Stars finale! #WantedNevToWinItAllThough

24 - Tues / How are we having thunderstorms coming in November? #alwayslovethesoundofthunder

25 - Wed / So super excited that work closed early for the holiday & I got to sign off an hour early #Startthisweekend!

26 - Thurs / Thankful on Thanksgiving that EMT's & first responders still work on holidays #alsoHappyBirthdaytomybrother

27 - Fri / The first Black Friday we didnt go out to one store #gotalotofshoppingonlinedone

28 - Sat / Got to see my mom after she got trasnported to the rehab facility #quarentinedfor2weeks

29 - Sun / Ended up watching church online around 2pm since I missed the LIVE showing with our electricity out for over 2 hours #gladitwasniceoutside

30 -  Mon / Ending the month with our first snow of the winter season #Notreadyforit #SOCOLD
