I got home yesterday. Walk in the door & like every other day, here comes my fur-babies, excited to see a human face come in the door. Let me re-phrase that... happy to see THEIR human's face. They wouldn't be happy to see a stranger's human face. Clarity - it was needed.
They all have their routines. Sydney stays on the rugs where her old hips make her slide on the floor & she waits for you to come to her. Zoe zig zags in between your feet just waiting for the day where she trips you down on your face (which HAS happened before)... & Bruno just runs in circles & stops & puts his butt in the air & then runs in circles again. Routine. Its nice.
But the end of this routine ends with all of them at the edge of the counter where they know the treat jar is at.
I would be ready for a treat too if I couldn't eat anything for 9 hours. That's why my desk is full of snacks at all time. If it's not, then a rush trip to the grocery during lunch is a MUST. Desk Snack Level must never get low... its an Office Job Law. Or a Stomach Law.. or both.
So I was on the phone with Ricky, got the treats out & hand them out accordingly. Now, we still are working down the treats from where we bought every thing on the shelves for Buffy to try & get her to eat. What we are down too are treats they're not used too. They're bigger then usual. Not a problem for Sydney. And I have the hardest time breaking them up. They're like concrete or something. But the dogs haven't had a problem eating them whole so I gave the two little ones these treats.
All of a sudden, I hear a KA-PLOP... I thought it was Sydney that slid on the floor with those hips... but she was in front of me. It was Bruno. Oh, the rolly-polly dog, is what I thought & then didn't think anything of it.
I went in the bathroom to wash my face & change ... had Ricky still on the phone...
All of a sudden, Bruno comes RUNNING in the bathroom into my closet. I said, "Bruno, what's wrong" ... & then noticed something was REALLY wrong!
There was blood all under his feet... he kept swatting at his face... then I saw something drop out of his mouth. I thought with blood & something coming out of his mouth, he had an animal of some sort. A mouse, a chipmunk, a mole?... so I grab him & he is in a panic. He is swatting at his face over & over... & his face is covered in blood...
I am screaming at this point... & Ricky, bless his heart, is hearing all of this on the speaker phone...
Bruno slides out of my arms & he just takes off running... like RUNNING!!!!! & Bruno doesn't run. He jetted out into the back yard & I hard him gagging & gasping. I run after him & shake him & beat him on the back & just keep screaming.
All of a sudden, the other half of the treat came up... I went back in the bathroom & found that the thing coming out of his mouth originally was the first half of the treat.
The treat that was stuck in his throat.... both halves of it Gross... I know... |
OH.MY.GOSH....
scariest thing ever.....
I just sat on the ground next to him crying... freaking out...
Bruno was totally ready to play & wanted another treat... I just kept grabbing him to check where the bleeding was from. I guess the treat scratched his throat, best I could make out.
See his paws & his face... the other side was just as bloody... & this is the 'more clean' picture. My poor baby.... |
My house was like a nightmare haunted house... where Bruno had blood on his paws & ran everywhere, our carpet in the living room has to be replaced. It was like something out of a horror movie. Luckily, my bathroom floor was easy to clean up. My carpet in my closet? Looks like someone was murdered. Nice.
But like Ricky said, who cares about all that... we have Bruno...Amen!!!
Poor guy...
I kept him close to me all night long. He was perfectly fine. Nothing bothered him. I gave him soft dog food for dinner & he ate like nothing bothered him.
We're keeping an eye out to make sure his throat doesn't cause problems. Making sure he's not spitting up blood or even blood coming out the other way to show internal bleeding.
I will say, the whole adventure did a number on his teeth though. It made his bottom teeth loose. Not sure if it was from hitting his face on everything or what... & his top teeth have a swollen gum in between them. If it doesn't go down this weekend, we're taking him to the vet.
I'm still a nervous wreck... just sat & cried holding Bruno afterwards & thought I couldn't have handled loosing two dogs in one month...
Ricky told me to say that again... I could have lost 3 of my loves... because he said he was ready to have a heart attack trying to get home to see what was the matter...
We need a break in our Vincent house...
& for the record, I snuck out of the house this morning without Bruno seeing me so I wouldn't get sad puppy dog eyes for treats...
No more treats in our house.... EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
