Day at the Fair

Before I woke up Sunday with a fever & a head cold, I enjoyed my Saturday out at the State Fair with my husband... here are some of the happenings of the trip...

See - it really did exist!  A Donut Burger.  I read it was about 1200 calories for this.  And there was a line to this place!  Between the calorie count & the $8.50 a pop, we just kept walking...

*****
This is some University of Kentucky basketball player... there was a line & people were freaking out. Me?  I didnt even know who it was.  Just saw everyone in a flurry & excited about autographs.  Ricky was like "Take a picture - take a picture!!!!" - I asked him, "Are you sure?  I may jinx UK now"... seriously - Ricky wont let me watch UK even play a game so I was surprised he let me even get close to this guy... I think his last name was Patterson?  Pattinson? .... I still dont know...

*****
This booth at the fair made me so angry... it had the sign "Don't believe in God?  You're not alone" ... these busts were of famous atheists & they had information out for people who didnt believe in God.  Oh man - I was taking pictures & saying, LOUDLY, "What is this about?" ... Ricky was getting embarassed & was pulling me away.  I was ready to start kicking & screaming... I really wanted to see what the Wizard of Oz sign was about ... why that was in this booth... anyone know why?

*****
Then I got to venture to the inside of a colon!  I told Ricky - you gotta take a picture of me going into this colon.  He just said, "you're weird" ... we walk inside of it & they had things on the side of the colon with signs describing what it would be.  People were taking pictures everywhere inside.  One couple standing next to a polyp said "This is going to be my new Facebook picture"... Ricky looked at me & said, "I guess everyone is weird" ... He's just jealous he didnt get his picture taken with the monster colon!

*****
Knitted socks!  The arts/crafts section of the fair is my fav every year.  I sniff out the knitting stuff.. Here was the collection of knitted socks that people entered.  Every year when I see the entries, I always think, I need to put in some of my stuff... but never do... I want a blue ribbon...

*****
Speaking of blue ribbons, I had to take this for you Julie!  It won first place! .... Julie, our daughter, knit one JUST like it!  I think the yarn is even very similar in color!  I have yarn to make the same project & Julie keeps on me to try enterlac... & this has totally got me excited about it now... maybe THAT will be my blue ribbon winner next year... Julie, you need to enter yours in the Texas State Fair!!!!

*****
They had a whole area - that was HUGE - set up with nothing but balloons set up to look like it was under the ocean.  It was truly beautiful & amazing to look at!!!!  See the turtle & the Shark?  The darker blue balloons are actually a HUGE octopus that covered the whole thing.....

And Ricky reached out to touch it, even though there was a sign that said "Do Not Touch" ... the whole octopus arm started shaking... Ricky's face was priceless... he said "if that thing fell down, I'd take off running & let you take the blame" ... that's love right there...

*****
I fell in love with the pigs at the fair this year!  There was one with babies all over it... the piglets were adorable... this was the momma taking a break.  Doesnt it look like she's smiling?  I petted her & wanted to bring her home with me...

Later, Ricky was looking for something to each & he said, how about a Pork Tenderloin sandwich... I pulled out my camera & showed him this picture... He ended up splitting bread sticks with me... good husband!

It was a great fair... glad I went - wondered if I picked up my cold from germs there... but now I have a knitting goal...  & now, no pork will be allowed in my house....

  2. I actually don't mind the fair so much, but I have to be in the mood to go. Currently, our state fair is happening and they call it the "Great Minnesota Get Together". It's usually really hot & LOTS of people.

But I can guarnatee you that we do NOT have a colon that you can walk through. :)

  3. Dude, I have to go home and see if someone stole my enterlac shawl and entered it in that contest. I want my prize money! That looks identical to mine. They probably used the same pattern, which calls for the Noro yarn, which that is. Mine is a different colorway, I think, but it is dang close.

  4. What a FUN time ~ I love the ocean of balloons. I don't think I could have taken my kids through that though because there is a 1 in 4 chance someone would have touched a balloon. Looks like a very fun event!

  8. Wow! Looks like so much fun. We did the fair on Monday afternoon but had our 4-month old with so I didn't get to take as many pictures as I had hoped to take. I should have listened to my husband and gotten a sitter this year!

I would have been furious about that 'atheist' booth too. Just what we need, to have them forming some type of support group...ugh!

    Have a blessed day Rebecca!
