Hodgepodge

1. Share your traditions surrounding the Christmas stocking.

Our stocking was always filled with fun small goodies as a child.  Stocking stuffers at its finest.

Now, Ricky & I usually dont use our stockings, except for our dogs.... yes, our dogs have stockings.... & they know when they're up... we put chew bones in them.  Sydney & Buffy, being the tallest, even will take their noses & snoop inside once the bones are there.  We tell them "NO" & they'll sit & wait by the stockings until its time for us to give them their present.  Its a Christmas morning tradition :)

2.  How many hours of sleep do you average at night? Is it enough?
All depends...
If I have a photo session I'm editing, I'm usually up later...
If I've ran hard that day, I'll either have TOO much energy ... those dang endorphins... so I'm up late... or I'm like a blob & exhuasted & going to bed early

On the average, I try to be in bed anywhere between 10-11 & I get up at 5:30... so, let's do math (caculator, here I come)... 7.5 hours

Is it enough?
You have to remember I work in Youth Ministry, so there's been MANY a night where I've only gotten 2-3 hours of sleep... & then been on full force the next day.
I dont think you can EVER get enough sleep :)

3.  If you had to give up one thing for the remainder of this year, what would it be?
Making dinner...

Why?  Because my counter top is FULL of wrapping supplies.  Paper, bows, tape, scissors, name tags... & to make supper, I have to clean off the counter.  & then pull it back out... then clean it... & pull it back out.

We just need to eat out every night until December 26th... so let's just take it to the end of the year...

4.  The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Wills and Kate as I like to call them) have announced they're expecting a baby. Do you follow news of the Royals?

I do!!! I love it...
I still have their 4 hour wedding on my DVR...

I loved everything Diana too...
& remember when she was pregnant with William & Harry
..have watched them grow up
So I love seeing William now with his own beautiful wife
... & will anxiously wait for the new baby...

I love to wait & see what will happen in Harry's life too...adorbs!

5.  For me the sound of childhood is______________________.

Laughing & screaming... together

Like running from someone chasing them...
or street games of kick ball
or my brother beating up on me (his laughter... my screaming) ;)

6.  Fruit cake-yay or boo? What's your favorite dessert made with fruit?

I know most people are BOO, but I remember my grandma used to make fruit cake cookies...

& I think I liked them...

there's gotta be a decent recipe out there ... I mean, fruit & nuts together?  Yum!

7.  What is one thing you want to accomplish before 2012 comes to an end?

To meet Steven Curtis Chapman..
....It's my yearly goal

8.   Insert your own random thought here.
So Ricky proved once again his love for me last night...by not killing crickets :)

Our basement has about a dozen.
Ricky looked at me & I said, "You cant kill them"... & he said, "But there's so many"... I just told him, do what you gotta do & dont tell me about it.

Next thing I know - he's capturing each one & each time he got one, he'd come upstairs & take it outside.  So up & down the stairs MULTIPLE times :)

I wont say he wasnt grumbling the whole time... "I  cant believe I'm saving grasshoppers"... but he made me smile...

... & made a grasshopper family very thankful...

  1. How sweet of Ricky to save the crickets. ;-)

My counter tops aren't full of wrapping supplies, but I second your motion of eating out every night for the rest of the year! ;-)

  3. Our dining room table sounds like your counter. We have a huge table but since the tree is in the dining room we move the table to one side of the room and take out two sections. It becomes wrapping central. So meals are either eaten in front of the tv or at the snack bar.
It must be a good year for crickets. Everyday I can find at least a dozen of them in my laundry room. I usually sweep them out the back door and wonder if they are the same ones I find the next morning in the room again.

  4. Our dogs have stockings, too...need to get one for Laika, but I do have OS' first Christmas stocking, so maybe that would do for this year! ;)
We must have the same brother.

  5. Each year, we wrap Busy Bones for our dogs and place them under the tree...and they have to wait until Christmas morning to open them. Maddie, our doxie, stays under our tree all day and into the night guarding her gifts...she KNOWS what's coming! Ricky is DA MAN!

  6. What a great hubby! We only eat it out when it is my turn to cook. I make "reservations"

  8. The first Christian CD I ever owned is Steven Curtis Chapman. I love it.
I had a few crickets in our entrance way and flipped out. I don't think I could have carried each one out! Your husband deserves an award :)

  9. I don't cook anymore. I don't exactly know how we get by, but we do. Cooking is overrated, just like grading is. :D

  10. I didn't DVR the royal wedding, but I managed to catch it - turned on the TV and got sucked in about a half hour or so before they walked down the aisle.

  12. My kitchen table is covered right now, but hubs and I normally eat at the island counter anyway. Still, you see the 'mess'. I'm hoping to deal with some of it today. I just haven't been home at all this week-events every day, so I keep saying I'll get to it later. Maybe the weekend : )
