Biblical Thought for the Day

During the lesson yesterday with our youth group, I saw a scripture in a new light that I never noticed before. (Don't you LOVE when that happens?) The scripture I saw was in John. It comes where people were asking Jesus, "Who do you think you are?" (John 8:53) - he is trying to tell them who he is & they instantly considered it to be blasphemy. The scripture that really hit me is:

John 8:59 "At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the templed grounds"

Then - you go a little further & you see in John 10 that Jesus is questioned again & like the first time, they are angry & say in John 10:33 "We are not stoning you for any of these, but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God". Jesus tried yet again to explain things to them but look what happens:

John 10: 39 "Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp"

Can you imagine what that looked like? I can't picture Jesus just stooping down - hiding in that sense. And I REALLY can't see Jesus running like he was afraid of these men. What did it look like? Was it a supernatural thing that happened. Did he blind their eyes? Do you know how angry that had to make people that were trying to kill him that he kept "getting away" & then continued to keep saying the same things!

But I couldn't wait to show Ricky these verses when I got home from church. With him being a superhero freak & he considers Jesus the greatest Super Hero in the world - I knew he'd love this too! Just shows the power & awe that Jesus held!

How amazing is our Savior?

  1. That was a very cool revelation. I too hadn't noticed that before and I can only imagine what that must have looked like as well.

Maybe he had some sort of thing he could throw and crate a smoke screen like the Ninja Turtles or Batman!

    LOL

  2. I hadn't noticed either. Amazing the things that stand out for us at different times.

  3. Oh, I love those parts. I believe it was definitely Holy Spirit driven. Just like in Acts when the Spirit takes Phillip away once he baptized the eunich! We joked in women's study that it was kind of like Men In Black with their little wand that makes people forget what they saw.
