Sin

Last night during our Youth Group lesson - Joe talked on a great lesson - SIN! Now, you can take that as a very BROAD topic but the point he was getting to came from Romans 13:11-14 & how we are alseep to alot of the sins in our lives. Oh - its easy to point out the BIG SINS - murder, adultery, rape, abortions - things that WE consider to be big things! But then, we close our eyes to the small sins in our lives - the pride, jealousy, anger, greed, lust - things that we just get use to. But does God look at any of the sins differently? Or are they all just sin to him - something that seperates us from Him? So is one better or worse than the other?

I just saw a book out that I wanted to get & even would like to do it in a group Bible Study - but its called "Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins we Tolerate" & it touches on this exact thing. The discussion last night has really got me wanting to get this book now! But what was so neat - some of the kids brought up things that they are just getting "use" to - sins that they are struggling with - it was awesome to hear their thoughts! And it shows that there is no age limit on this problem too! We all have sin in our lives - our sin is not any worse or better than our neighbor or someone you may even see on TV. Look at it through God's eyes - we're all sinners in need of a Savior!

It also takes me to the point of judging someone for their sin - remember the Bible says in Matthew 7:1-2 "Do not judge, or you too wil lbe judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged & with the measure you use, it will be measured to you" - that alone makes me not want to think anyone else's sins are worse than mine!!!

I think God just wants to help us & for us to help each others through whatever struggles sin throws at us! How can we help each other if we're too busy pointing fingers?

  1. I enjoyed Joe's lesson too, and thought it was great how he actually got a few deep confessions from the kids in class. It would be awesome if they keep working on it and opening up to one another.

  2. Romans is an intense book with tough nuggets of truth to swallow. I used to attend Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), and one year we studied the book of Romans. The first 2/3 of it strips you of any false sense of self-worth and "holier-than-thou" grandeur you may carry around. This is due to it pointing out just how deeply sin permeates our lives.

How refreshing that the youth are astute enough to recognize this in their own lives. Mature group you have there.
