Excited over fireworks....

I don't know about you but this weekend, my Instagram was slammed full of firework pictures.

I mentioned yesterday how we had the primo seat for fireworks on my dad's porch.  First of all, the view captured fireworks from about 3 different towns that were shooting them off, so it was like a horizon full of fireworks .... & then their neighbors.

It honestly was like sitting at a waterfront in a town & watching them, except we had our own bathrooms to go pee if we needed to. YES!  The little things in life.

We waited for what seemed forever for it to get dark.  (I love summer) & then around 9:45 they started lighting them.

I can't help it... whenever I first start seeing fireworks, I start making those "ohhhh" & "aaahhhh" sounds.

It's all so beautiful... it's not something you see very often, especially up close like that.  It's just mesmerizing to watch...

at least for awhile...

After about 15-20 minutes of it, they start to look the same.  I think someone even said, "yeah, seen that one before"

It just gets ordinary & even sort of boring.

& then the noises & popping of the fireworks just get on my nerves.

We all went inside after about 30 minutes of it & Ricky & I & my brother & his family all went back to our own homes.

Once I got home, I could STILL hear fireworks going off...

What started out at something exciting & beautiful, turned into something that seemed ordinary & then eventually just annoyed me...

I was talking with the youth kids Sunday about just that...

Do we ever get blessings in our life & we start off excited, clapping, thinking its the best thing in the world? .... & then not much later, we get bored, we think what we have is just ordinary or even expected.  We don't find the same joy in things as before.

Our job's that provide
People brought into our lives
Our homes we live in
Our marriages
The food we get at the grocery

Seriously - the food at the grocery.

Anyone remember feeling like a 'grown up' when you started out on your own & you got to go to the grocery & get your own food?  It was the coolest.  You could get what you want, you felt like you were the queen of the world... or maybe this was just me... but it was the coolest feeling.  Now when I have to go to the grocery, I want to moan & groan & kick a kitten. (no, y'all know me better then that... but I really hate going to the grocery)

We look at blessings we have in our lives so many times as anything but special....

I want to challenge myself to see things in a new light....

to have that excitement just like when the first firework went off on the 4th of July & lit up the sky.

Are there things in your life you need to recognize as a blessing & get excited over once again?

  3. You are so spot on about the grocery store thing! It was so exciting at first to be able to buy anything you want- but I got over that real fast! haha I try and focus on being thankful for the blessing of having so many safe food options.

  4. Wow. I just love this post. It reminds me of one time when I went to New York City. We parked on Staten Island and took the ferry to Manhattan. When we passed the Statue of Liberty I sat there with my mouth hanging open, in awe of her beauty. Most of the people on the ferry didn't even look up. I thought, "How can you get tired of the Statue of Liberty?!" But you're right, we all do it, with so many different things. I know I am personally guilty. Thank you for such a thought provoking post!

  5. This is a really great post! I often think about sights that I can't wait to see and then wonder what will happen when the excitement wears off. I sometimes wish I could see things like little kids do - without being jaded and seeing things for the first time!
