Hodgepodge

The Hodgepodge before Thanksgiving... let's do this...

 1. Are you settling for something?

I'm settling for paying crazy amounts of money every month for health insurance & getting a horrible policy back in return... that was actually cancelled because of Obamacare... so now, I have no idea what kind of policy I have.  Probably something even worse.  Yipee... Too afraid to even try it. A cold?  That will cost $5,000.

2.  It wasn't that long ago almost every store in the US locked doors and turned out lights on Thanksgiving Day. This year many will be open all day Thursday, giving shoppers a jump start on 'Black Friday'. In your opinion is this a good thing or a not so good thing? Will you be shopping on Thanksgiving Day?

Didn't everyone see this coming last year when they opened the stores at midnight?  They've crept it earlier & earlier the past few years.  I know because we are Black Friday shoppers.  Have been in line at 3 am before in 20 degree weather... why?  Just for the fun of it.  We usually go out just to see if we can snag a deal or two... & usually just to laugh at people who are bum-crazy-insane fighting over things.

I do think its kinda sad for people who don't want to leave their families on the holiday... but I think its the way of the world because you can bet there will be tons of shoppers out on Thanksgiving.... which only fuels the fire...

Welcome to 'merica

No... no... no...
we don't even wait one day anymore little one

3. Speaking of shopping...I saw a recent article on the twelve best shopping cities in the world. In order they are-New York, Tokyo, London, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Dubai, Madrid, Milan, and Seoul. Ever shopped in any of the cities listed? In which city would you most like to pull out the plastic or cold hard cash?

Hello... you're talking to the girl that gets sick traveling to Nashville - 3 hours away... My butt ain't going over seas to shop at any of these places.  That's why God made internet shopping...

image
Internet Shopping... where you can just loose all your money from the comfort of your home.

4. When did you last dine by candlelight?

Does the flame that keeps cheese queso warm count?

5. What do you have too much of?

Mass on my body...

& that's BEFORE Thanksgiving!

6. The Hunger Games...are you a fan? Did you read the book(s)? Will you/have you see the movie? Will you/have you seen Catching Fire?

Yep... a huge fan!  I have already read all 3 books, but went back & re-read The Hunger Games before that movie came out & re-read Catching Fire before last weekend.  We were in the theater Friday night... I was so excited... & it did NOT disappoint.  I want to see it again...

7. Share your plans for Thanksgiving Day. The who, the where, the what..especially the what! As in what's for dinner? If you're one of my International visitors, whose homeland doesn't celebrate American Thanksgiving (the whole world doesn't ya know!) then still tell us your plans for Thursday.

We'll probably be spending most of Thanksgiving yelling at Harvey NO!!! His first smell of Turkey.  The smell of meat doesn't exist in my house.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

All is right in the world... Derek & Amber won Dancing with the Stars last night.

I'm going to do this move all day long in random spots...

But I actually liked all 3 of the finals & would have been ok with any of them winning.  But I just love Derek so happy for him!

Now we have to wait until our Monday's are filled with Juan Pablo....

You gonna watch?

Why my brother is cooler then your brother...

... I'm joking.. he's really not...

Noooo... he is...

& its his birthday today.  He's creeping up to the big 5-0... but not there YET...

He's Mr. Recluse so I'm posting pictures of him & putting his face out there... only to aggravate.

Especially old Senior Pictures from the 80's!!!
Check out the ruffle shirt

its what sisters do...

But I do have some reasons why he's pretty cool...

* his favorite food was peanut butter mixed with syrup ... perfect healthy combo of protein & carbs - right?

* I always thought he was the most awesome fighter when we were in Kung-Fu

* I may have thought that last one because I felt the wrath of his punches many times in the arm

* He made Ray-Bans cool before Ray-Bans were cool...

I made Tigger classes cool before they were never cool....

* He had the cool car... his first car?  A Camaro... my first car? A 70-something Toyota-something...

* BUT... he bought my first car for me... everyone?  Say AHHH - that's one awesome big brother!

* He used to get up extra early to beat me to the basement TV... Rule was that the first one who got the TV first got to be in charge of the shows that we watched all day.  I turned him into an early bird.

* He can build and/or fix pretty much anything...

* We're total opposites ... but that takes cares of problems.  What I can't do, he can... what he can't do, I can do...

Bec and her brother, Tony

Example - I'm on roller skates here... he is not... See?  Opposites

* He gave up weeks (months) to paint & design our youth trailer.  The work still makes people ask, "Who did this?" ... the kids love it.  It's just a small part of his amazing artistic talent that he has... it really is amazing...

All that brick work?  Hand done...
& the Jesus graffiti?  Just a small part of how awesome this place is...

* He designed & built his home... an Italian Villa in the middle of the country.  You can have your dream anywhere.

* He reminds me of Adam Sandler ... & I'm not sure why....

* He makes cute kids...Two at one time...

So let's wish my Big Bro a big Hap-Hap-Happy Birthday...

Weekend... Catching Fire & then holed up...

Friday

* YES YES YES... Catching Fire... it was everything I wanted it to be.   Just reading the book the week before (again) - I had the story & details fresh in my mind.  I was super impressed how well the movie followed the book.  Of course, things are left out & little things changed in some little bit - but it was spot on.  The last few lines?  The exact ones from the book... LOVED IT!!!!  I'm trying to figure out when I can go see it again!... & am dying now for Mockingjay!!!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) Poster

* Ricky, not knowing how it would end, was sitting angry in his seat when the movie was over.  He is not patient in waiting.  We were 2 mixed people. I was literally pumping my fists in the air with excitement over loving it & he was sitting with his arms crossed going, WHAT?  WHAT WAS THAT?

* Since we were gone during the evening, & had to pen Harvey up, I stayed up late to let him run around for awhile before putting him back in his kennel for bed.  I hadn't seen David Letterman in forever.  Pretty funny!  Also caught up on Scandal... oh my word... note to self:  chew my wrists to pieces if I ever need to get out of a holding cell

Saturday

* Vet appointment... again... Bruno had another shot to get.  I have been at the vet every week since September... & have to go back one more time for Harvey next week ... final shots... thank goodness!

* Went to a local Christmas bizarre our little town has every year with my daddy.  If I knew I would see half of the people I knew in the world there, I would have gone in something other then my 'vet clothes' - the clothes you wear to the vet that you don't care gets dog hair all over it.  Jeans that are baggy & stained.... a sweat shirt that is 4 times too big & makes me look like an 80's rap member... & of course, no make up & horrible hair.  Of COURSE, that's how you look when you see people.

* Time to break out the Christmas tree & all the decorations....

* UGH!! This tree is 1 year old & the bottom row of lights wont come on.  I have a 2 year warranty on this tree... guess this tree is going back to the store when it comes down at the end of the year.

* I was exhausted at the end of the day... putting up Christmas trees & all the loading & unloading of totes?  Who needs to run a marathon?

Sunday

* We didn't have youth group because of Thanksgiving & Ricky has hurt his leg & hip so we just stayed home.  The dogs were happy.

* Just lounged all day long... worked on some picture stuff... caught up on some Elementary episodes... a cold lazy day...

* Decided to make the day productive & changed my closet over.  I have never waited this long to pull out my sweaters, but needed to go through my stuff & see how fat I've gotten what doesn't fit anymore.  Its officially sweater weather... (its 22 degrees right now, I'd call that sweater weather)

* While working on my closet, I put on Enchanted... in my top 5 Disney movies.  Ricky had never seen it. I forced him to sit & watch it... success!  He liked it.  No sitting with his arms crossed screaming WHAT? like Catching Fire :)

* Did my nails with these stick on things from Avon... they were super easy to put on.  I'm anxious to see how long they last.  I keep hearing they can last for a week or two.  I'd be happy with that.  If so, I'll buy 10 dozen of them.  I actually just bought something similar from a friend's Jamberry Nail party... I may never actually paint my nails again!

* AMA's ... I'll say a few things.
Lady Gaga is a weirdo but has an amazing voice.
One Direction won me over with their song.
Taylor Swift STILL gets on my nerves.
Luke Bryan singing live make me think he can't sing at all... was that just a bad song for him?
I'm obsessed with the song "Say Something" right now
What was with all the Spanish?  I felt so left out...
Miley Cyrus and the cat from Shrek with the sad eyes... ok... better then twerking teddy bears

It was a laid back weekend, which I hadn't had in a LONG time... it felt nice...
Hope everyone had a great weekend... gearing up for Thanksgiving... & the official start of the Holidays! (I can't believe it)

What Bicep Tendonitis feels like....

Oh man... I'm in pain again...

It never really stopped, but it eases up & now, its flared up again.

Its my Bicep Tendonitis... on top of other aches & pains (Hello Runners Knee & Herniated Disc)

I will Justin Timberlake... I'll do just that...

But someone asked me how it feels...

Here's a good way to explain it.

Unless you're a professional ballerina, ice skater or performer in Cirque du Soleil - or Jean Claude Van Damme -  then you'll understand.

Lean over until you feel that pull in the back of your leg?  That tightness in the back of your leg?  That pain that then runs up & down your leg?  Yeah... that's about how my arm feels all the time.  From the shoulder all the way down past the bend in my elbow... the whole Bicep area...

Add in the fact that it feels like someone has matches burning inside that area too...

Now imagine every time you use that arm, to lift it, to write, to type, to grab something, to lift an item, to even swing your arm while walking, then you can multiply the pain by 100...

So Mad I Could
This move right here would have me in tears with pain...
cans everywhere just got lucky

Sounds like good times - right?

Now you understand why my knitting has gone from 5 projects a month to maybe 1 a year :(

The only answer to the pain is to CUT THE TENDON...

image

That's my only solution that I'm given.

The effects of that?  Horrible painful spasms that can take years to heal or subside... & loss of strength ... obviously.  I mean, they'd be cutting part of your arm that you probably need...

So yeah... this isn't fun...

& you don't hear of many people that have it...

Just wanted to share an idea of what it is.... my moan & groan post of the week.

I promise - no post on the pain in my back or my knee... I'm falling apart

Amy Poehler

I think a personal concert with Steven Curtis Chapman will be the only true cure :)

Hodgepodge

Is it only Wednesday?  I'm exhausted... let's Hodgepodge to make the day better.

1. What lesson has failure taught you?

That I hate to fail

2.  What decision are you glad you made?

I'm glad I gave up meat & soft drinks....

My skin cleared up, most of my stomach issues cleared up, & I feel like I can hug animals with a clean conscience :)

3. I've been a little bit surprised to see fully lit and decorated Christmas trees popping up for the past several weeks in friend's Instagram feeds. So tell the truth-is your tree up and decorated, and if so when did that happen? If not when will you be decking the halls?

My halls will be decked this weekend.  Mainly because the 3rd Thursday of November is SUPPOSED to be Thanksgiving.  I still don't get the mess up with it being the 4th Thursday... & I always decorate the day after Thanksgiving... so in my little world, that is this weekend.  That gives me a good 5-6 weeks with the tree up too.  I don't want to put it up late in the year & do all that work, only to take it down a week or two later.

Still anxious to see what the new Pup thinks of the tree... & how many times I'm going to have to scream NO!!!!!!! while unpacking ornaments.

4.  Solitaire-poker-rummy-hearts-go fish-Old Maid...which game of cards would you most want to join?

I love a good game of hearts.  We used to play that with my friend Stephanie & her husband on weekends... good times...

I love good card games.

Ever play DOUBLE Solitaire against someone?  I LOVE that game... tried to teach it to Ricky but he didn't really care for it.  I need to make my mom play with me again. She was always up for a game.

5. This question comes to you courtesy of a Facebook friend, who once upon a time had a blog...When you're feeling stressed do you snack a lot or are you more the 'can't eat' type?

Look at me... I think you get the idea...

Its cuter when Honey Boo Boo does it... I think... maybe not...

6. Have you ever reviewed a product or service online?  Was your review favorable or less than favorable?

Yes I have... but my favorites have been some books I would not otherwise ever buy.  Some of them have become my favorite books!

Love books?  This is where I review them...

http://www.rebeccajosbooks.blogspot.com/

7. What was the best conversation you had yesterday?

About the final 4 dancers on Dancing with the Stars & who should win & why...
add in there how cute Maks was judging the dancers with his little bow tie

#TeamAmber ... I'm really rooting for her & Derek

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Anyone else get wrapped up in the BatKid Story from last week?  I don't think I didn't see a tweet, a video or a picture that didn't make me tear up over it.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE that over 12,000 people help volunteer for it.  People have good hearts sometime... nice to see...

Thanksgiving Scrooge....

I'm going to say it...

I know some people will totally be like "Are you crazy?"... & I know some of you are secretly agreeing with me.  You don't have to come out of hiding.  You can stay safe in the world of Thanksgiving wonder & let everyone think you are blissfully enjoying the day....

But I'm saying it... I'm not a fan of Thanksgiving...

I know... I KNOW!!!

Hold the riot mobs...

I will go on the record & say the only thing I do remember liking about Thanksgiving was my grandma's dumplin's ... & yes, that's dumplin's with no "g" ... its good, old fashion, country cooking dumplin's ....those made the holiday perfect & I used to actually look forward to eating them like I'm looking forward to this weekend to see "Catching Fire".  The anticipation!

Other then that.... umm... not a fan of the day...

Maybe because when I was young, I had a job at a grocery store.  You ain't worked a job unless you worked in a grocery at Thanksgiving.  People are in a hurry, people are loaded with food, people are grumpy.

I can remember being out to dinner with my mom & dad the day before Thanksgiving.  We had to run in the grocery so my mom could pick up something quick, like cool whip for pie... the store manager saw me walk in & put me to work on a cash register because the store was nuts.  Its chaos.

Thank your grocery cashier this Thanksgiving season.

People are making a big deal about stores being open on Thanksgiving.  Hello?  I was 16 about 25 years ago & & guess what?  The grocery WAS OPEN on Thanksgiving!  At least till noon.  So I had to work on Thanksgiving most years.  ... again, with crazy people who need last minute things.  Talk about worn out.

I also don't get what the big deal is about a DAY to be thankful.  I don't mean to sound so grumpy about it, but hello?  Aren't we taught in the Bible to be thankful EVERY DAY?  What makes one day so special?  And especially when most people don't get together to discuss why they are thankful... they just get together to eat, watch football, argue as families do.

I'm thankful for ANY time our family gets together for dinner... not sure what makes one dinner in November any more special.

Man, I'm sounding REALLY Thanksgiving-Scroogey, aren't I?

You know with me being a vegetarian, I've gotta add the obvious thing.... all the killings of poor turkeys.  I will say, I'll go with a Chick-fil-A thought & say that the cows get a break for the day, but still, poor turkeys everywhere are shaking in fear....

I didn't mean shaking turkey's like this though....

I just see people already stressing about the holiday... where to go, all the travel, what to cook.  Doesn't sound like a 'thankful' few days building up to it, does it?

To finish up with my depressing Thanksgiving post - is it me or isn't Thanksgiving supposed to be the 3rd Thursday of the month?  What the heck happened to have it on the 4th Thursday?  Who decided that?  Who declares what day Thanksgiving is?

This is how I felt when I saw Thanksgiving weekend actually goes into December!

But to take my own thinking & to be thankful every day, I will say a few good things about the day...

1. I do love watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.  My favorite is when they do Broadway show songs!

2. Its my cue to officially start listening to Christmas music full time.

3. SALES SALES SALES!!! I will be out in the Black Friday chaos trying to find a deal or two... makes me feel accomplished for the year if I get at least one killer deal.

4. No judgment if you go through the grocery line with 4 different kind of pies... Apple, Cherry, Pumpkin & Pecan... get in my belly

5.  Christmas decorating goes in full effect on Thanksgiving

6. The start of fun Christmas shows on TV... Hello "ELF" being on TV every night on some station.  I never get enough of it.

7.  This sums it up... MASHED POTATOES

What It's Like Being A Vegetarian At Thanksgiving

So what about you?

Do you LOVE Thanksgiving?

Are you a secret closet Thanksgiving hater?

Come on, you can admit it - what stresses you out about the holiday?
