Light Bulb Moment

The cool thing about teaching the Jr. High youth girls - I get to dig deeper & learn things I probably wouldnt otherwise. I came across something this past week that was such a light bulb moment - & it thrilled me! I was looking at the following verse:

Mark 15:34 (New International Version)
34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

At that moment - I picture Jesus on the cross & crying out in such dispair. Its a heart breaking image & makes me shutter at what he's going through. That statement makes you think he feels betrayed by His Father. "Why have you forsaken me?" How many times have we thought that in our lifes in different situations - how did you betray me? Why did you hurt me? Its that cry of hurt - that screaming out.

But something else came to light. First, let me see if we all agree that Jesus came to fulfill prophesy. (I can feel the heads nodding) Second, we know that Jesus knows the Word of God better than anyone - right? (heads nodding again) - The Bible even says He is the Word - right? Anyways - turn to Psalm 22

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?

There are those words that Jesus used! Reading on in Psalm 22 - there are even references that are exactly the story of the cruixifiction of Christ.

16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet

18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

And when you read on - it ends in Praise to God

25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; efore those who fear you will I fulfill my vows.
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him—may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him— those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30 Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn— for he has done it.

There's my light bulb moment righ there - I feel it again! Instead of feeling betrayed & hurt - could it be possible that Jesus was reciting this Psalm - knowing the end of how his story would turn - knowing that it would end in Praise to God - knowing that "all the ends of the earth will remember & turn to the Lord" (vs 27) & "Future generations will be told about the Lord" (vs 30). In the midst of trouble & sadness & heart break - Jesus saw Hope.

I love it when the Word speaks to my heart!
