wanna see a failure?

Living in Kentucky, I have memories even being little of one thing that you have to do in this area... you may think I'm joking, but people take it very seriously around here... you have to decide who you will root for in basketball!  University of Louisville.... or the University of Kentucky!  Its a serious decision that you MUST make...
I can remember being little & my uncle being a DIE-hard UL fan so my family became a UK fan just for fun - just to argue with him about it.

You all know me - I honestly could care less... I never really made that "decision" because if someone wins or loses, most of the time, I dont even know about it...Go team - whoever you are...

This weekend though, UK went to the the Elite Eight & around these parts, oh man - you could feel the tension.  There were the UK fans who were DYING to win to go to the Final Four... & then the UL fans who were DYING for the Wildcats to take a fall... when UK ended up defeated, you could hear PRAISES, screams of JOY, celebration around the area... & to be fair - a lot of UK fans did that too when UL went down in the first round...

Now, believe me, I'm not going on a sports rant because if you know me, a sports rant is the LAST thing that would come from this girls mouth...

But I kept thinking about how excited everyone was to see someone else fail...

We live in a world where people LOVE to see others fall on their face...

Ask Jesse James - or Tiger Woods - or Lindsay Lohan ... they are HOT in the news because they've done something GOOD?  Nope!  Because they've screwed up & made mistakes.  People will camp around these people just waiting to watch them fail even more.

I'm going to admit - I have giggled & snickered when people I consider "mean" fail in things.... they make a mistake?  I'll point it out to them - GLADLY... why?  Because I enjoy their mistakes... that's wrong...I know that... but I know they enjoy MY mistakes... so why not wish it back on them...

Do you all do that too?  Am I alone in wishing "failures" on people?

Driving into work this morning, with all this going through my mind, I thought - you know what?  We are ALL children of God... & God never wants us to fail - never wants us to falter... He would NEVER cheer or root for a failure...why do we?  We screw up enough in our own lives - we dont need others wishing it on us...

So whether it be someone in your work place - someone in government - someone who is a celebrity - someone in your own personal life... lets root everyone ON for a change... wishing only the best for them... to see them suceed...

What a world THAT would look like!

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you & not to harm you, plans to give you hope & a future." -Jeremiah 29:11

  3. I have to admit: I may have chuckled a little when Ky. got beat, but I wasn't laughing when UT lost! The 1st year I lived in SC, I was told I had to make a choice between Clemson & USC. They wouldn't take "I don't really care" for an answer!

  4. I think it's sort of human nature to be glad when mean people fall or get their comeuppance.

  7. Oh, this is hard. . . so hard. . . I'm a Louisville-raised girl, who is a UK-Blue to the Bone fan (my great grandfather played football for KY in 1897, the team tagged The Immortals! When Rick Pitino left Uk and found himself at UofL, well, it just felt like a dagger had been placed in our backs.

However, we loved Pitino basketball. We enjoy watching it - as long as it's not against UK.

I have never been a "wish you would fail" kind of girl. Never will! How can you love your neighbor like yourself if you want them to lose?

We need cheerleaders, encouragers and straight-talkers to lift us up when we fail!

However, there is nothing more beautiful than a well-played game on both sides that leaves you admiring the opposing team for a job well-played!

Well played post Rebecca Jo! Well played!
