A pretty good first week under my belt... or feet...

Week 1 is in the books for my Half Marathon Training.

I always love week 1 because its filled with so much expectation & newness & everything is fresh.

I know that about week 8 or 9, I'll be looking like someone has drug me behind a car by the hair of my head... but as for now, I'll enjoy it.

Monday - Run 2.50 miles

I started off on the treadmill.  I haven't been on that baby in a long time, but again, with all the FRESH & NEW FUN attitude. I didn't mind it.  I started off doing the intervals that I've always done - 3 minutes running/2 minutes walking.  It worked fine but I felt like at the end, I wanted more....

I was glad though to try out my new running shoes that I got over vacation in October & saved for this training / race & they felt like heaven.  No rubbing on the back of the heel, they fit great & they feel like HEAVEN. I think I've found my go-to-running shoe - the Asics GT-2000 ... I need to note this so I can remember.  My bright yellow ones I used before were the same kind.  I'm happy to find a shoe that fits great for me.

Tuesday - Upper Fix

For my cross training days, I'm still not sure if there is a plan. I was going to do a P90X3 / half marathon training thing, but I so love my 21 day Fix work outs so I may just play around with it all.

I have to say, I felt like a BEAST on today's upper body workout.  I did more push ups then ever before AND I upped my weights & did more reps with the higher weights.  I love the feel of progress!  It's so encouraging! ... even if it means that I could barely move my arms for an hour after the workout.  That's where progress comes from

Wednesday - No work out - too busy crying over the dentist!!!

I looked exactly like this all night long... even at the dentist

I was going to run on Wednesday but I didn't even get home until nearly 7:30 & then was so upset when I had to digest the dental estimate of what it was going to be for the periodontal treatment & 3 crowns.... Yeah.... I'm a cry baby.  I cry over every emotion anyways but when I get overwhelmed, crying is even more a go-to-emotion!  On the bonus side of that, I don't even want to eat when I'm overwhelmed so that balanced out.

Thursday - Run 2.35

Thursday:

It was so warm, I couldn't resist taking my run outside!!!  YESSS!!  There is nothing better then running outside & breathing in fresh air & feeling nature. It motivates me.

But remember when I said I wanted more from Tuesday's run.  Well, I thought, let me just run & see how it goes for me. No intervals - just running..... & my run was supposed to be for 30 minutes ... I ran for 27 out of those minutes!!! I had only stopped 3 times for 1 minute walk breaks.... I was so happy & proud of myself & it gave me such fresh new motivation!

Friday - Rest Day

Saturday - Run 2.42 Miles

It was cold again & I need to get outside & get used to the temps because the Triple Crown is usually ran when its cold, but it was also grey & looked like rain.  I'm not that much of a BEAST yet.  I just stuck to my treadmill & watched Celebrity Big Brother.   (Anyone else watching it from England?  I'm so obsessed!!!) ... but guess what I did this time - RAN 30 MINUTES STRAIGHT!!! Not even 1 minute walk breaks!

Y'all... I can't tell you how amazed I feel about this.  I'm so excited to see where the progress goes - to build up on it.

I know that I have some long runs starting from this point & I wont be able to run it all from the beginning, but I do feel like its a starting point to run more then ever.

So the first week is under my belt & I'm happy with how it went, even though I did miss out a day of cross training...

& yes, I still want to do yoga on Sunday... even though I haven't made that happen yet.
Did I mention how much I hate yoga?  Dang it... I GOTTA start it.

I know when my body gets tight from longer runs, I'll need it even more.   I may need someone to message me & tell me, DO YOUR YOGA NOW!!!! Any takers?

  3. Yay, that's great that you did that run with 30 minutes straight of running! I'm trying to get to the point where I can do a 5k without walk breaks and I'm only at about 20 minutes or so without needing a walk break.

  4. You're such a beast! I find it so comical that you do all this running and cross training but you hate yoga... Ha, I'm so totally opposite. I will do yoga every day if it means I never have to run or pick up a set of weights! Haha!

  5. Way to go! I so need to get started. I made the decision last week to do the Hyde Park Blast again. Only this year I don't want to be in the last 5 people to finish. I mean I'm so glad I finished, but I'd like to do a little better this year. That means starting now!! The treadmill's in the garage. Think I'm gonna move it so it's where I can at least use it out there.

Hey if you need a message on Sundays, let me know when and where to message you and I'll do it! lol

    Keep going!

  6. This is very exciting, your knee must be all better. I am so excited for you! Looking forward to hearing how the rest of the training goes. And if you keep this up by week 8 or 9 you won't look like you've been through the ringer, you'll look awesome happy and healthy and ready to kick some butt in that race!!!!

  7. Excellent progress! I need to get into a working out routine. I've been so inactive for so long so I'm easing myself into it with long walks with the dogs every night...then I'll get myself to the gym!

  8. Good going on that training!! I totally would have cried after the dentist too -- but hopefully they overestimated the cost AND/OR this will be the last big-bucks dental trip for a long time!

  10. Get it girl!!! I love all of your workout gear too. I think having good comfy workout gear that you love wearing helps with wanting to work out. I don't really have any so I'm never motivated to work out :/
