Why I'm not doing the ONE WORD this year... & more goals of 2016

OK - I'm usually the last to come to a party & this post proves it....

Everyone did their New Years Resolutions last week... or picked their "Word of the year" at the beginning of the year.  Call me a slacker. It's OK.

I did the "One Word" of the Year for the past few years - you can see the ones I picked on the side of my blog.  Focus / Confident / Renew... great words. & they all spoke to me.

& I started looking at words for this year.

let me tell you - I had a list a mile long of words & why I liked each one.

Webster Dictionary never had me so involved then the past few weeks.

But it was all causing stress to me.  Too much pressure... & I came up with some new idea....

Instead of a word for the year, I'm going to do something new....

A SCRIPTURE OF THE MONTH!!!!

I did this last October for a challenge - got a scripture & read it every morning, wrote it out every day. Really really focus on it - digest it - infuse it in my mind.  I loved doing that... so why not do it every month?

& at the end of the year, I'll have 12 scriptures of God's word more rooted in my mind & heart... so much better then just one word - at least for me.  I'm so excited about this.

I already have my January scripture everywhere... I need to do a monthly blog on the scripture I have... I already have loved my first one & it really shows me I'm doing the right thing for me.

So that's one of my goals for 2016.... (goals sounds so much better then resolutions)... but here's some of the other ones I'm really shooting for....

... drink more water every day. / I drink a lot of sparkling seltzer water, but I need to just drink plain good ole basic H20... so healthy for the body, skin, brain - everything.

... get in 10,000 steps daily / sitting at a desk Monday - Friday & then a lot of times on the weekend doing photography editing, its a lot of sitting.  Do you KNOW how unhealthy sitting is?  I have to make a point & effort to move more at work.  Even if its just walking around my desk in circles.  I gotta do it.

... read more / I love to read & my goal last year was 40 books. I got to 39. DANG IT!  But I'm shooting for a goal of 40 books again this year.  I'd love to actually get in 50 but we'll work on the first goal.  I just need to make more time to read.  That's what it comes down to.

... Deeper in the Word / I want to make sure I read more, learn more, feel more of God in my life.  There's just too many resources out there for the grabbing to NOT be in God's Word EVERY.DAY! I want my Bible to be open every day.

... Bible Journal / I want to continue on doing my Bible Journaling & learn new techniques & fun ways of spending time with God & what He says to me.

... work out, races & moving!!! / I have big races ahead in 2016 & I want to train healthy & mindful & try to do it all injury free.  (did anyone else just laugh with me) ..But I do intend to do 6 days a week of working out.  I'm excited about that too!

... yoga / I hate yoga. It's not something I hide. I HATE YOGA.  But yep, I'm making it a goal. I NEED yoga. The older you get, the more your body wants to shrivel up in a ball & I want to stay long & flexible.  Hence... yoga... dang you yoga!  But I want to make it happen once a week - probably on Sunday - end/start my week with a good stretch.  I'll do it with a grumpy look too!  But I'll do it

... sticking with my 21 Day Fix / I WILL make my weight goal this year.  & I WILL stay there!  I'm excited about it. I see in my mind standing on that scale & seeing that number... visualizing those pair of jeans on me... seeing the shorts on these legs looking GOOD. It's all up to me & the choices I make!  & I can do it!

... keep up with my house / I'm pretty sure TLC is contacting me soon for an episode of Hoarders.

... more pictures of my life / I've talked about this before but I'm a pro at taking pictures of everyone else's life - not my own. I want to make it a point to have an album of enough pictures of my life in beautiful pictures - not just Instagram pictures at the end of 2016.

... mindful spending / I'm bad about this.  I want something, I get it.  I know that's a blessing, but I also want to save more & not buy things that in the end, I don't REALLY need.  So I want to be more mindful.  Maybe that means putting my credit card in a block of ice so by the time it takes to thaw, I'll have time to think :)

... find a church & get involved / I STILL cry every time I talk about the disaster that happened to our church in 2015. I miss it so much.  I'm still heartbroken from it all.  Devastated is more the word.  But this year, I want us to get planted in someplace... I want to get involved back in youth ministry - oh gosh, how I miss it (... here's the tears again... I honestly cant talk about it without crying...) I miss the kids & being able to speak God's encouragement into them.  I feel like I'm more open for God to move us this year... & I'm excited for it to happen!

... cook more / I really love when I get to try new recipes & they are amazing.  Sadly, between work & working out, I put off cooking way too often. I need to make it a point.  Stay ahead of the game.  Get those ingredients in the house so its easy to do.  Food is nutrition. I would be happy to cook twice a week. Easy enough - right?

... connect more / I am always so busy with a busy schedule, I need to learn to make connection with my friends & family more.

... Beachbody coach / I really do love Beachbody & the difference it has made in my life.  I've been lucky to help a good number of people get started on the path of getting healthier & in better shape in 2015. I want 2016 to really focus on helping more people.  I really believe in it & am excited to see where this coaching thing can take me.

... SAY NO! / In order to do that & most of the things above, I need to say NO more to things.  I need to not book & double book every weekend with pictures.  It's OK to not take every client that contacts me. I need to get good at saying no.  It's hard for me.  But I have to really put priorities in my life & a lot of times, its not doing for others that don't think twice of never caring about me.  I think that alone will free up so much time in my life.

So I'm excited about all of these... it all seems feasible too.

It's not like I'm saying, "I want to jump out of a plane."

If you ever DO see that on my blog - get help right away - its not me!

  1. I am not one to pick a word or make resolutions on new years, I like that you have specific goals for the year and you are doing something each month that makes you happy! I wish all the best for you in 2016!!!

  2. These are awesome goals!! I did goals this year, too. Not resolutions. Goals seem so much more doable to me. I don't know why.

  3. Hope you reach each one of your goals. I especially like the scripture one. What a great idea. Anytime we can become more immersed in God and His Word is the best thing.

I decided to try your sentence a day. Quickly before I went to bed last night, I wrote a sentence for the first 5 days. I don't know how long I'll remember to do this, but I'm gonna try. I haven't decided yet if I'll share them on the blog, but I think I'll really like being able to look back and read them later. Since I have such a really bad memory, maybe this will help me remember my life.

  4. I love this idea! I had a few of my favorite verses on a bulletin board and just moved them because they were there-- but I never really looked at them, so I moved them into the bathroom where I'd be sure to see them daily. I hope this year you guys are able to find a new church you connect with. Good luck with all of your fitness goals, I'm always so motivated when I see your instagram posts!

  5. You have a lot of great goals for the year! I'm bad about the mindful spending too and it's one of the things I want to work on this year.

  6. NO is so important.

Great idea on the scripture - that works really well for you!

I need to move more at work too. I try to get out and walk at lunch, even if it's beyond freezing.

  9. I have been so out of the loop recently - i need to go back and find out what happened with your church. the scripture a month seems seriosuly amazing. The 21 day fix is awesome! I think you saw my posts about it last year!! I plan on doing that again either before or shortly after I have this baby. and YOGA!?!?! You know that makes my heart skip a beat!!! I LOVE YOGA!!!!!! and I am soo happy you are doing it!!!! It is So good for you, and I know you know this - which is why you are doing it! WOOHOOO

  11. I really like that you're focusing on scripture each month. If you share it on your blog I will definitely be the first in line to read it. I love coming across different verses and hearing how they've touched other people. It seems like the right verse always finds you at the right time... Yay for 2016 goals!

  12. Those are a lot of goals and I am sure you can accomplish them all! I need to do many of those, especially moving more, reading more and getting involved in a church!

  13. I must say I'm a look on my bible app on my phone :). I need to be better!

I hated the Yoga on the 21 Day Fix. I'm so bad, yoga has never been my thing!~(

  14. Sooo many of these resonate with me too! I used to drink tons of water but I've been slacking the past few months and need to get back on track. Also working out and mindful spending, yes please! I've never done the word of the year thing and I think it would be too hard for me to pick one!

  15. I swear we are soul sisters! Love the Bible scripture idea and if you don't mind, would like to use it too! I definitely want/need to drink more water! I went to the gym last night for the first time in...343 days!!...so sad. I absoultely hate Yoga too, but feel the same about growing older...I feel less flexible every day...ugh! I need to cook more which in turn will help our spending (we eat out WAY too much!) and keeping up with the house (as I look at the mess of Christmas decorations that need to be put away...lol). Let's help keep each other accountable in 2016! We can do it!! Hugs!

  17. Ahh, most these can apply to me too! I don't and never had done a word of the year. Honestly I never even knew that was a thing until I started blogging.
And PS, you are not alone in being the last to state your 2016 goals! I said I wasn't making mine until the marathon was over!!!!
