Be ready...

I'm sitting at my desk at work looking out my window this morning...

there is a little kitten sitting by the garage door...

behind the garage is a bunch of wild kittens & the guys in the shop always throw out food for them, fresh water - they take care of them...

Today, this little kitten is probably wondering where his friends are at...

See, yesterday, one of the guys in the garage called in sick... he said he wasnt feeling very good...

... we got a phone call about 3 hours later that he has passed away...

completely out of the blue

Apparently, he drove himself to the ER because he still wasnt feeling good...

& died of a massive heart attack as he was walking into the hospital...

its one of those things that dont seem real...

We see this guy Monday - Friday... such a nice guy... would do anything for us if we needed work around our offices...

except change a light bulb... he was terrified of heights & couldnt get on a ladder

He's gone...

And then I turn on the TV last night & saw there was once again another shooting

... all that I kept thinking last night, was "were these people ready"...

Its awful enough when you know someone is sick & you know they're life is nearing the end on this earth... they get a chance though to say those last prayers of forgiveness, to wrap up loose ends, say things they should have said...

but so much lately, we're reminded that you dont always get those last days, hours - even minutes...

Sometimes, life is just gone... in a second...

We need to be ready...today... now...

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.
What is your life?
You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
 -James 4:14

  1. The ladder reference made me smile.

With all the strife going on in my husband's family, he has tried to share this message with his kids--but they won't consider it. My mom died suddenly at 59 (when I was 31), and my dad after an illness at 72 (I was 40), so with my son and husband, I do tell them every day I love them--the only important thing, so should something happen to me, they can be as assured of my love for them as I am of theirs for me.

With that, and knowing Jesus, nothing else matters.
