Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge Day!  Hope Joyce had a great week off - but we're back...
If you want to join along, feel free to hit the button above & join right in

1. Share one fun thing you did last week while the Hodgepodge was on Spring Break?

Probably the most fun I had last week was after the Papa John 10-miler... it was such a beautiful day.  I came home, took a shower & sat outside for HOURS reading my Kindle.  Almost done with "The Host"... that sucker is LONG... over 600 pages... but it was so nice just relaxing & soaking in warm sun for a change.

not too exciting, I know... but running 10 miles wasn't oodles of fun, & work every day isn't up on my list of fun either.

this is just proof to me again that I need a vacation

2. April 10th is National Sibling Day...do you have siblings, and if so are you close? Share a favorite story involving one or all of your siblings. If you don't have siblings did you ever wish you did?

Just me & my big bro .... we're almost 7 years different so when I was going into middle school, he was already graduated & in the big world of girlfriends & working a real job.

Probably the story that I know I've talked about before, but its the only one that stands out to me when I think of my brother, is how he would punch me & make me cry & then take my picture.  Seriously.   When my parents moved, they found all kinds of the pictures of me crying... I don't know what's more disturbing - my brother punching me for fun, or my parents keeping the pictures... the things that bring families together :)

it wasn't all bruises & tears though (that sounds horrible... he really was a good big brother)... we all took Martial Arts together - my dad, me & my brother.  I can remember going every week.  When my brother was in it, I honestly thought he was the toughest Martial Artist around.  He just had a natural talent with it.  He was so good at the fighting part of it too... maybe that's why he was so good... I made the perfect punching bag.  See?  I'm good for something!

3. Is it important to you to 'buy American'? How far will you go to 'buy American'? If you're not American insert your own country in the blank.

I do think its important...
do I do it?  No... not really

I just don't think anything of it, which is sorta sad.

When they do those specials on ABC News (Made in America),  it always blows my mind & I'm like, "I'm going to ONLY buy American products"... & then I go shopping & totally don't think twice.

American's... our attention span isn't the best.

I will say... to make up for my appearance of sounding like a horrible American... I do try to buy local produce & local natural products.  That counts - right?

I feel like I should stand up now with my hand over my heart & recite the pledge of America!

4. Besides The Bible, what book has impacted your spirituality in some way?

I love this book.... its a part of a series called "The Martyr's Song" Book #2 - but I don't remember that you HAD to read them all - they could stand alone.

I haven't read it in a long time, but I can remember actually crying over this story.  It's described as "the Hosea story meets Song of Solomon" ... I just remember in the story how much this man loved this woman & how badly she treated him & how much she would go out of her way to hurt him & turn back to her old ways of living.. but he never gave up on her.

It just painted such a picture of how God never gives up on us, even when we hurt Him & turn our back on Him.

I need to read it again... see if it holds the same meaning I remember it holding.

5. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Do you find rainy days calming or depressing? When were you last caught in a rainstorm? What's blooming in your neck of the woods today?

It depends what I have to do for the day if I enjoy a rainy day.  If I have to do a long run or have a photography session, then I'm totally not digging the rain.

If I'm home & have nothing else to do, I love the rain.  I'll go grab a book & a blanket & sit out in my rocking chair on the porch & inhale the clean smell of rain.  Nothing like it.

What's blooming?  Everything that holds pollen.... UGH!  Spring time... bring on the headaches & sinus pressure.

6. What's your favorite yellow food?

My favorite is Yellow Dye #4 .... nooooo!!! Kidding

my favorite is actually fresh pineapple.... Oh yeah!!!!  I love eating it as a snack ... I love juicing it. We usually go through a few pineapples a week - especially in the summer.  Time to start making beautiful pineapple juice over crushed ice.

7. April is National Poetry Month...what's a poem that holds special meaning for you, and why is it special.

I'm not a big 'poem' person...

but probably the poem that holds special meaning? My own!
Yep... in elementary school, me & my dad made up a poem for a contest... & it WON!
It even got published in a book for young poets...

Yes... I'll sign autographs

8. Insert your own random thought here.

So less then 3 weeks to go till the Mini Marathon & of course, you knew an injury would come.  Its not my knees this time... or my back.  My back is actually constant pain now. (Lucky girl I am) But its a bone on top of my foot.

I've actually been to the doctor before about it years ago.  They said there is space around the bone on top of my foot that goes to the big toe & it'll shift... when it's out of place, or inflamed  its so painful.   It hurts to even bend my foot.  Which isn't good when you want to bend your foot A LOT going 13.1 miles.

When I went to the foot doctor, he even said, "Do you have a sibling?" - yes - "I bet he has the same thing"... I asked my brother if he has foot pain like that.  He said he actually did every now & then... so apparently this weird bone foot thing is common in siblings.

I should have totally used that as my answer for #2 instead of bringing up once again how my brother used to punch me in the arm...

  1. The picture of you and your brother is so adorable! Don't all older brothers or sisters punch you? LOL.
I just injured my foot from working out too much too soon. It was just a strain but I couldn't put weight on it so was tip toeing around. I told my chiropractor about it and he adjusted my foot and I can now walk with all my weight on it!
Congrats on the mini-marathon. That is so great!

  2. Ok first let me comment on Theresa's comment, you can go to the chiropractor for your feet? Who knew?!!

And second of all, Ted Dekker writes something other than, dude what just happen? This is twisting my mind!! He ended this how? Then commence the crazy dreams. I had no idea he wrote anything other than thrillers. And let me just say, if his touching books are as touching as his suspense books are suspenful, then I should be reading them. :)

I have a brother. He locked me in the bathroom. Nuff said :). My bros great though.

Love you and your hodgepodge ways ~~ dawn

  3. I am 9 years older than my brother and I used to have him sit across the room and "pretend" to throw mini marshmallows into his mouth...fun game right...except that instead of aiming for his mouth, I would beam him in the face with marshmallows and laugh and laugh. I am so mean...must be the older sibling thing ;)

Have you read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers...reminds me of the book you mentioned (which I will check out now!). Sooooo good...my favorite book ever (along with the Mark of the Lion series)!!

  6. You peaked my interest with this book. I love the book of Hosea! I've never heard of these books, so I have to try it out.

I'm sorry but the story of you and your brother made me laugh out loud! Brothers can get away with some crazy things.

And, about your foot ... my chiropractor adjusts mine all the time.

  7. I kind of was distracted by your brother punching you. One of my brothers used to do the same thing to me, but there are no pictures. Of course, I did get him back by throwing his Magic 8 Ball because it answered "NO" when I asked if a little boy loved me! (Yes, anger issues!)

  8. I don't believe I will ever call a marathon "fun." ;P I don't buy American like I should, either...love your idea of blaming our short attention spans. Yeah, the ADD did it! If I come visit will you teach me how to deal with a pineapple? It's one of those things that intimidates me...like coconuts. How do you deal with a coconut??
