I'm in need of opinions here...
I love taking pictures & have always used Kodak Gallery online to store them, had pictures mailed to me & have purchased MANY, MANY photo albums. Well, lately, I'm been disappointed with Kodak. The quality of the pictures have dropped to the level of doo-doo... the paper is so thin that the pictures are on, I think that home printed pictures have thicker paper. It DOES still have the Kodak logo on the back... isn't that supposed to count for something? Used to - but to me, not so much anymore....
So what other sites do you all use? I have friends that use Photobucket, Snapfish, flicker, Picasa... I'm SOOO confused... do these sites have good editing tools on them? And is there a cost after so many pictures? That's what I do like about Kodak - I have files out there from 2003 & it doesnt cost a thing... I've been looking & some of these others have a fee after so much space is used...
So share please... do I stay with Kodak - or do I venture into some other world of web pictures? Tell me what you like best about your photo online album....
I use photobucket for storage and editing only. Have never tried their photo service.
ReplyDeleteWe have used snapfish and shutterfly for our 3-day thank you's and other things (photo books, etc) and have been pleased with the quality, delivery, etc.
I've used just about every site out there, to be honest, with the exception of Kodak Gallery. Photobucket and Picasa seem to be my favorites.
ReplyDeleteYou know I use Picasa. You can download it on your computer and put as many pics as you want. You can edit in it very well. You can have some shared online, while keeping others private. You can share them between computers if both have it downloaded. You can use several methods to print them - Walgreens, Snapfish, Shutterfly, PhotoWorks. I always use Walgreens and they look like normal pic prints. It works for us, whenever I get around to actually uploading them off the camera.

ReplyDeleteI use Snapfish every year for the books for the grandparents.
ReplyDeleteFor blogger I use photobucket and Picasa.
Snapfish is great :). Costco is another great way and very cheap!!!
I used to use Photobucket...until I joined Ravelry which, at the time, only allowed you to add pictures from Flickr.
ReplyDeleteAfter I started blogging, I figured out that I needed more space on Flickr, so I pay $25 each year for unlimited space.
I love that you can download different sizes, crop, and do other editing on Flickr.
Another site I use is Shutterfly.
I take a gazillion pictures for soccer and upload them. This has been a great way to share photos with other parents, and they can order from the site as well.
I ordered prints from the photos I took during my daughter's prom, and they came back fast and in good quality.
Shutterfly gives you the option to create a share site (blog) directly from their site. Then, whenever you upload photos, you can throw them on your shutterfly blog with a few simple clicks. I used this feature to create a website for our high school soccer teams, and the parents and coaches loved it.
Oh, and with Shutterfly, you get free pictures for every blog/share site you create! I now have one for family and two for soccer (travel and high school).
My advice...pay the $25 annual fee for Flickr. If you want to buy prints, upload to Shutterfly.
I use Walgreens. Then my Mom who lives in another state can order what she wants. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you thanks for your nice words today.
ReplyDeleteI love Shutterfly, I always order my photo books through them. It's the best quality I have seen compared to other photobooks I've seen. I've never ordered pictures directly from them so I'm not sure about that.
ReplyDeleteIt has the usual editing tools, red eye, crop, text and others. You can check it out at www.shutterfly.com
I'm just reading all these comments because I am really curious too. I've never used anything outside of photo storage but the idea is very appealing to start ordering them for books, etc.
ReplyDeleteI use Snapfish for Aidens calendar every year. I think the quality is very good. I have been using Shutterfly for doing albums and happy with that as well. I dont keep my photos on line. I just back them up all the time on my own EHD.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I don't print many photos anymore but I should. I use Picasa and Picnik for editing, depending on the effects I'm going after. If I ever do print anything I just upload my edited pictures to Walgreens and order thru there because it only takes a few hours and I can pick it up at the store, which means no shipping.
ReplyDeleteI am so taking notes...I'm curious, too! I haven't used any photo storage to store, since I have web storage and can store there...but mostly I store on 2 different auxiliary hard drives and then upload them to places like RiteAid for prints - since they're right down the road from me and easy. I am so going to look into the other options your commenters have suggested, though! :)
ReplyDeleteHey! I've used Snapfish, Walgreens and Walmart to make photobooks and store pics and have been happy. However, Picaboo offers a lot more options for photbooks, but you pay a little more. That I know of, you don't have to pay for any of the servies until you order prints/etc.
ReplyDeleteWhere DON'T I have pictures. LOL
ReplyDeleteKodak Gallery, but I now have to pay a fee since I've got so many on there and don't want them to delete them.
Shutterfly, but I HATE how they now have the stupid white box around the vertical pictures so I haven't uploaded any pictures there for a long time.
Photobucket is good for using with blogger, but again, I'm now paying a fee since I've got so many pictures on there. It's also slower than molasses, but that might just be my computer.
I've used Snapfish, but not enough to really know much about them.
I've used Flickr but I didn't like how you can only upload a certain amount of pictures per month so I haven't used them since {and I don't know my log-in info}.
I know there's a couple others I've used too, but can't remember.
As far as quality in ordering the pictures, I'd say that Shutterfly is good, and the white box isn't there when you actually order the pictures, just when you upload them and try to post them on another site.
