Smells are powerful

Do you know how powerful smells are?

Can't you smell something & it instantly takes you back to a memory of a place?
Or a person?
I can smell certain scents & I feel like my grandmother is in the same room...

Smells are powerful...

They're so powerful they even rub off on you... & sometimes you dont even realize it.

I used to work at a Chicken/Fish Fry place... my goodness.  When I'd get home, my clothes were RANK!  Just being in that environment, the scent would get all over you.

Smells are powerful...

You know you have a smell, right?  We dont even notice it sometimes.
I can remember exactly what my friend's houses smelled like... each house had a unique smell.  My best friend always told me that my house smelled like Snuggle Fabric softner... we all have a smell...

So what do you smell like?

I love this verse in the Bible...

"Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God.  But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved & by those who are perishing"
-2 Corinthians 2:15

I love that this says our lives are a "Christ-like fragrance" rising up to God...
... it doesnt say my life is a "Rebecca-like fragrance"

which is probably a good thing...

my 'fragrance' would probably be pretty smelly...

... that kinda scent that is full of yucky & messy... sin...

But when we accept Christ...
well, that's a powerful smell...
that takes our scent away.. replacing it with something that can rise up to God

Its a scent that we may not even notice
... but others should take note of it
...it should be so strong that it rubs off on others
..a scent that lingers

Talk about a POWERFUL smell?!

Thank you Jesus!

  1. When I smell pickles, or coffee, I think of my mom's favorite sister, who passed away a few years ago. I loved the smell of her house!

  3. I love this post!! I think it's crazy how a certain smell can take you place to a distinct place and time or memory.

  4. It's funny, every time I smell chlorine, it takes me right back to being a teenager and going swimming with all my friends at the neighborhood pool. Good times! Once again, your lesson has uplifted me...and I thank you!
