Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Its Friday, Friday...gotta get down on Friday...

Sorry for the Rebecca Black breakout... They play that on the radio every Friday morning & it goes right through me, but it is a dang catchy song.  I need to reword it when it comes on... "Its Friday - Fragments ... gotta get down some fragments" ...everyone sing along...

*****
Everyone molting where you live?  I cant believe how miserable the heat has been.  I feel so badly for the Hubs as he works outside & in a hot warehouse.  He took a picture of the thermostat in the warehouse this week & it said 112 degrees in there.  That's not even adding in the humidity.  I hate that for him.  He comes home drained of life & soaking wet, even though he takes 3 shirts & changes them during the day.  Man, it makes me thankful my job is in a nice cold office where the temp stays around 74 degrees... Be careful out there folks!  We've even had a 18 yr old boy in our town die from heat stroke last week... & Ricky's friend even had to be put in the hospital for 4 days due to heat stroke.  Its some serious stuff....

*****
Project Runway... ITS BACK!  It's going to make me want to learn how to use my sewing machine all over again!  For the record, Ricky bought me one for Christmas 2009.  The last Project Runway inspired me to take it out of the box!!!!  So hoping this Project Runway season inspires me to PLUG IT UP & turn it on!  Its all about baby steps... I want to make Tim Gunn proud...

*****

Debt Ceiling... I never even knew what those words meant until this week... & now, they have me thinking I need to move my 401K to bonds instead of stocks... All of this hassle reminds me why I hate politics so much & why I dont even get involved in listening to it all because it just makes me give up all hope of our leaders of our country.  I love when people say, lets take away their pay, health insurance, benefits & see how quick they can solve the crisis! ... get it together people... you're making this great country look like a bunch of idiots.

How sad is it that I had to look online how to make iced tea?  I honestly didnt know... How much sugar?  How much water?  How many bags?  My problem is when it comes to thinks like measuring Cups/ounces - any kind of liquid measurements, I get all confused & befuddled.  So you're likely to have 8 cups of water to 1 tsp of tea... but I think I got it down last night.... don't judge... just give me props for trying to learn to make tea instead of drinking more Diet Coke

*****
SPAT OF THE WEEK:  Cowboys vs. Aliens ... OH.MY.GOSH... does this look like the dumbest movie ever?  Well, apparently not to Ricky.  And apparently not to most men.  I think it looks ridiculous & told Ricky so, while his jaw was hanging to the ground in awe.  "Why is it ridiculous?  Couldnt aliens have been around even in the old cowboy days too?" ... that sentence alone is proof why this is the dumbest movie ever.  I cant tell you how many "debates" we've had over this movie.  The idea of aliens in today's time makes so much more sense.  And again, just shows how stupid this argument is.  I refuse to talk about the movie anymore.

*****
Speaking of movies, I can NOT believe it... I still have not seen the last Harry Potter... I am in shock myself over that fact....

*****
I am uber excited about "The Help" coming out soon though!  The casting just in the previews looks spot on!  Anyone else excited about that one?  Because I know 98% of you have read the book & loved it as much as I did.

*****
I just finished Max Lucado's new book "Max on Life" - (You can see the review on my book blog - click the tab above if you want) - but there was some great stuff in it.  I really loved one thing he said - that people look at death as a "failure" - that its to be avoided at all costs - but its going to happen.  And this was written, "When heaven sees a breathless body, it sees the vacated cocoon & the liberated butterfly" .... isnt that an amazing way to look at death?  ... I still would prefer to hold off on my "liberation" for awhile :)

Hope everyone has a Fabulous Friday!  I'm off to check to see how won the competition on Big Brother last night...(Come on Jeff & Jordan!!!)

  1. Oh, I have a few comments for you today!! Please allow me to go down the list...heehee...

Sewing machine...girl, take some lessons!!! I remember my mom taking sewing lessons at the Singer store in the mall. Those were some boring hours for me, but she certainly learned how!!

Debt ceiling...don't even get me started! I am shocked at how far in debt this country is! Yesterday, I was helping my Chicky study for her history final, and I read that Dwight Eisenhower balanced the budget three times!! I doubt that it's ever been balanced since.

Sweet Tea - Ok...here's one I know something about because I've been making it since I was about ten years old. No measuring, my friend. Just take a big pot, fill it with water. Bring it to a boil and add two or three family size tea bags. Allow it to steep for five to ten minutes, until you get the color you want. Take the tea bags out and add 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar, stirring it so it all dissolves.

EASY!!! (and no measuring, except for the sugar)

Cowboys and Aliens - I've gotta take Ricky's side on this...but ONLY because I saw a movie review yesterday on the Today Show (gotta love the summer when I can be home to watch it). They had two mamas reviewing it. Now, you cannot honestly tell me that you are going to pass up a movie with both Harrison Ford and the James Bond guy. Seriously? One mama did say that the alien ship set was cheesy, but otherwise, they loved the movie! C'mon Rebecca...go see it for Ricky. That's the kind of thing we ladies for for our husbands, and it's a lot easier than cooking!!!

The Help - Psyched!! I read the book and loved it! It's going to be interesting to see the movie!

Max Lucado - I just love his writing! It flows, and I usually fly through his books. He paints the most beautiful pictures ever!!

Ok, that's all I've got for you!! Have a great day!

  2. Follow-up...did you know that Rachel Ray doesn't believe in measuring? I only know this because Chicky bought one of her cookbooks and likes to watch her show (maybe that's me who likes her show...gotta love the summer and being a teacher!). Anyhoo, she doesn't do measurements. I'm too anal for that, but still...food for thought (get the pun? har de har har). I crack myself up sometimes!! heehee

  3. You crack me up! Have a great weekend. And yes cowboys vs. aliens looks so dumb!

  4. I agree. Taking lesson will advance you light years in one hour----sort of like the aliens.

Measuring is vastly over-rated. I don't do our cooking but GG doesn't measure much and it's all good stuff he puts on my plate. Said the fat lady going to Wt Watchers.

  8. that movie looks dumb, but i will probably end up seeing it with hubby. just to say he watched it, he thinks it looks dumb too.

yea, debt ceiling... but if you look up what the gross income is for our reps and senators, taking away their piddly little 170K won't matter much to them.

  9. You have to look at this video...it was produced by my friend and stars his daughter.

  10. You and I can go see The Help and we'll send our men off to see Cowboys vs. Aliens. I agree. Looks DUMB!

  11. We have been having the same Cowboys vs Aliens argument in my house. Ohmygosh, I'm glad I'm not alone in my thoughts of it being ridiculous.

The Help. I have been meaning to read that for forever...and now they are making it into a movie?!?! I need to get myself to a bookstore quick!!

    Happy Friday to you!

  12. I am totally excited for 'The Help' too, and agree about the casting! It looks great.

Also, I'm totally excited about Project Runway being back too - I haven't gotten to watch the season premier yet, maybe today!

  13. I just watched a preview for Cowboys vs. Aliens and I totally want to see it now... sorry!

I haven't seen the new HP movie either. Most of the showtimes are in 3D and that's not good for me. I want to enjoy the movie, NOT be sick and barf through the whole thing. Sad!

READ your owners manual for your sewing machine. It will likely make you feel a lot more secure in operating it =)

  14. oh i adore jeff and jordan!! i'm cheering for them like crazy!! i'm also so excited for the help to come out to looks much more my cup of tea than cowboys vs. aliens ha!

  15. OK, so I just found out that Cowboys & Aliens has Harrison Ford and DANIEL CRAIG in it - now I don't care if it's dumb - I want to watch it. :) Of course, I'm more of an action flick kind of person instead of a chick flick one.
