The Penny

I'll admit it - I'm a geek at heart! I love stationary, office supplies, notebooks, pens, & I LOVE books... I've already admitted my weakness for books in previous posts... but what I do when I read probably REALLY classifies me as a geek! When I read, I keep a notebook beside me & I write down quotes from it.... I keep them all together to look back over the years & some of them really speak to me...

So I just finished the book "The Penny" by Joyce Meyer & Deborah Bedford. I finally found it while I've been on my "Book Fast" of not purchasing new books.... It was a good story - I think I was expecting more, but man oh man, I got some amazing quotes out of it... wanted to share some of these with you... sometimes quotes apply to not just a story, but life lessons... hope they touch you as they touched me...

"I understood that something doesn't disappear when you push it away. It waits for you & eventually, when it beckons, you've got to go back to it"

"The worst thing you can do is go into a day being afraid"

"I could finally see how a person's words said a whole lot more about the person who SAID them than they did about the person they were SAID TO"

"I learned that if you offered your hand to reassure & be of good use to someone, it went a long way toward helping you overcome how somebody else's hand had done you harm"

"When a voice keeps needling at you, it can have the same effect as a steady drip of water wearing a rock into sand"

"That night, I realized God doesnt always make something go away because we pray. When we pray, he often gives us the strength to stand up to it"

Some powerful stuff! Next time you read a book... see if anything special stands out to you... write it down... it may be just what someone else needs to hear.

  4. Oh how I love the nerd in you! I have not heard of anyone taking notes on a book they didn't have to read for school!

I love it! Do you highlight too?

  6. Rebecca,
I am a book marker-upper. Yep it is pitiful. Mark all over them. But when I pick it up it gives me great places to refer to.

    Love ya girl,

  9. I do that all the time. I hear a quote and then write it down. I get some from movies, books and shows on tv.

    Great quotes!

  11. I like your idea of copying down notable quotes. I think I will try that the next time I read a book. I love to read, just haven't had a lot of time for it lately!

  12. I do the same thing. I always have my notebook handy. I actually keep it in my purse. I write down sermon notes, book quotes, bible verses...anything I see when I'm out and about.

  13. Your first paragraph could have been written by me. Except I always seem to misplace the quotes, so I've started putting them on my blog!

  14. I am the same way. That's why I prefer to buy books because then I can just underline right in the book!
